This will be the thread for hot takes about the offense and offensive playcalling.

Some say you can't garner anything from this game.  I'm in disagreement.  That throw where JJ escaped the pocket and threw a rope to CoJo for a TD is a throw Cade doesn't have a prayer of making.  That single play is where his abilities are on full display.  He can scramble and keep his eyes downfield at all times and make throws with pinpoint accuracy.  Additionally, that interception Cade threw with a clean pocket shows he's not right at the moment.  He's not playing anywhere near how he played last year and I feel bad for him.   I hope he is able to keep his head up and pull himself out of this.  The booing and chants of "we want JJ" were juvenile at best and downright pathetic if we're being truthful.  He deserves better.  And to anyone saying he had nothing to do with last year, tell me you know nothing about football without telling me you know nothing about football.

I’ve read about 10 posts saying “let’s see JJ against real competition “ huh? Did you watch us against Georgia in the playoffs? Cade was worthless, yet JJ at least did something against the best defense in a generation. Plus he was a freshman! Watch out, this dude is special! Plus I put $100 on him for heisman preseason!

Cade's wasn't actually that bad against UGA. Neither INT's were his fault and he was worse in some games during the season where he had a better statline.

That's one of the weird things about Cade's seasons last year, his statlines were not really indicative of how well/poorly he performed, and it goes both ways.

Sounds like JJ starting moving forward on merit, so Harbaugh gets to see if he can keep Cade around somehow.

I hope JJ has what it takes to have us finally beat OSU and win the big ten championship game, it’s been forever since a Michigan QB has helped lead us there.

Darrius Cornelius Johnson finally got productive targets.  That was good to see after some biffed targets at the beginning of the CSU game (and underutilization of Nico and DPJ before him).  Sometimes when the offense gets so conservative (due to play calling or QB decisions or whatever), I bet CJ feels like the Maytag repairman out there.  I am looking forward to some more verticality feeding these WRs some nice stats, and the team some nice points.  That should feed back into how defenses need to play us and everything should click even better with a downfield passing game.

Cade without Haskins feels different.  It is almost like he lost his mojo when H2 graduated.  JJ, wow.  I don't think we've had a QB like that since Henson.  I'm stoked!

I’m just going to sift through the ‘cade didn’t get a fair shot’ and ‘jj excelled against a Hawaiian middle school jv b team, just wait until he faces real competition’ comments

I'm convinced Harbaugh knew what everyone became convinced of tonight. JJ was the guy, but you can't pull the QB who accomplished everything Cade did last year before the next season even starts--especially for a guy coming off surgery who hardly participated in practice all summer. Harbaugh had to do what he did with the QB's so everyone else could see what he knew. Given the non-conference schedule, he could afford to do it. Tonight we saw it. We move ahead with JJ and everyone in that locker room agrees. Harbaugh gave Cade what he earned: a chance to keep his job based on his results on the game field, not the practice field, and he lost it. I think it played out exactly how Harbaugh thought it would.

I am amazed, in a bad way, how the offense ground to a complete halt with Cade under center.

I’m a big Cade fan and appreciate greatly what he did last season, but it is time for JJ. The offense was explosive and dynamic with him in.

I thought it looked like the o-line stoped blocking for Cade in the 2nd half.

That’s some tinfoil hat shit, sure, but it stuck out a bit.

Is Cade even the 2nd best QB right now? Everything looks so hard with him in there and twice now the 3rd string QB has come in and made it look better than it does with Cade

I’m curious to see the Webb-Gardner film breakdown, curious what happened with the blocking. Looked like an entirely different o-line when Cade came in. I saw a few film clips where defensive ends play more aggressively  because they don’t have to respect the run. Do they stack the box and blitz or something?

I don't care how "pumped up" the Hawaii D was to get after Cade -- the M OL should have handled it. One play was on Zinter 100% whiffing on a block and the other pressure was a backup (I think?) doing the same thing. Two major whiffs in a row. Cade didn't have a chance to get set either time.

That being said, JJ's performance made it a moot point.

Under JJ: A++, a well oiled machine with great OL play, only one hiccup when Ronnie Bell dropped a pass from JJ then he made up for it. Corum and Edwards made their own great plays. And JJ; deadly accurate on his throws. He is poised, had command of the play calling with great decisions.

Under Cade: F, What Happened?! The OL failed to protect Cade so the sacks weren't all on him. Cade was inaccurate on his throws and had an INT. Cade has regressed-A LOT and its unfortunate.

Under Davis Warren: A- as the offense got rolling again and added two more scores.

Overall: A-.

No question JJ has earned the job, but something is really wrong with Cade right now.  He has not been his best in any of his drives, and appears to be really having some confidence issues right now.  I hope he settles in now that the spotlight of the competition is off.

Purely by play over two games, Cade has been 4th best QB, and he is clearly better than the other two guys.  Need him back to full Cade to really make a run - we will need two QB's to achieve all goals this year.

When JJ's on the field he takes everyone along for the ride - the entire team seems more talented.  Is this my imagination, or is this what great quarterbacks do?

I love Ronnie Bell and him trying to show that he is better than he was before the injury, but feel that he was a bit over excited and tried too hard and took unnecessary risk fighting for a few extra non-essential yards.

"JJ O'Clock" struck completely at the interception.

I think my o-line concerns in the heat of last week's game were overreactive. Hayes' return fixed most of any holes that were there consistently against CSU. WRs are making things happen now and its interesting to see Roman Wilson continue to break out in front. RBs started breaking tackles, but again JJ's run threat helps open it up more and *it's Hawaii*
