You forgot ...... 5. Fuck Notre Dame
September 11th, 2022 at 2:23 AM ^
Not saying I want it to happen, but it makes a ton of sense.
September 11th, 2022 at 8:19 AM ^
6. ND's new coach is 0-3 and looked like a deer in headlights against Marshall.
September 11th, 2022 at 9:33 AM ^
Wisconsin would make more sense. It has all those things, and Mertz is a total flame-out.
September 11th, 2022 at 12:33 PM ^
Cade was an ND decommit. Granted, they've had a coaching change since then, but they do need a QB.
Maybe he comes back out West, though. DTR's really, truly out of eligibility at UCLA. And who knows what will happen with Bo Nix at Oregon?
September 12th, 2022 at 2:05 PM ^
Damn, forgot about DTR. Seems a lifetime ago that he was on the verge of coming here...
September 11th, 2022 at 2:43 PM ^
There is no way Cade would start over Tyler Buchner at Notre Dame.
September 11th, 2022 at 1:06 AM ^
The odds approach zero. He is a QB that is a proven starter.
To me, the only real question is whether he checks out before the end of the season. Probably not, but you never know--QBs have transferred in such circumstances before.
I assume that JJ will hold the job without any real question for the rest of the season, and that Cade will transfer either right after the regular season or after the postseason, depending upon where Michigan winds up going.
If/when he returns to Michigan Stadium in such a scenario, he should receive a prolonged standing ovation. He is one of three QBs to beat OSU in the last 20 years. He has served our team well. He is a Michigan man no matter what happens next. That will not be diminished by him wearing another uniform for a couple of years.
September 11th, 2022 at 2:18 AM ^
He's not leaving. He signed a NIL deal with Tom Brady. He's gettin' that $$. This was planned.
September 11th, 2022 at 9:39 AM ^
He can transfer and keep the NIL deal with Brady ya know.
September 11th, 2022 at 6:28 AM ^
This is premature. I'm all for demoting Cade to number 3... we need a productive 2. Counter scouting Michigan? Job one is ring JJ's bell.
But more likely scenario is Cade figures this out quickly. If he doesn't he has a resume to polish off the field. This sort of adversity makes leaders lead. This is why he came to Michigan. He expects the best of himself and the team.
September 11th, 2022 at 2:15 AM ^
Davis Warren proved he's a legitimate backup. Plus, we have an Orji. An Orji in the endzone.
September 11th, 2022 at 6:30 AM ^
Spoken like a master(de)bater.
September 11th, 2022 at 6:30 AM ^
And double D poster.
Sheesh.
September 11th, 2022 at 12:21 AM ^
Looked a lot better with JJ. More juice over the whole team when he was in there
September 11th, 2022 at 12:21 AM ^
If I'm Cade, I'm taking those golf clubs back... The o-line did not help his cause.
It is also a bit concerning to me that the o-line wasn't better. What happened?
September 11th, 2022 at 12:22 AM ^
I mean, none of that seemed to be an issue when Warren came in, so…
September 11th, 2022 at 12:37 AM ^
...so, you didn't gave two OL decide to be turnstiles when he was QB.
September 11th, 2022 at 12:46 AM ^
Cade takes to long to make a decision with the ball and has no ability to escape the rush. JJ gets rid of the ball and can extend plays. Warren was making quick decisions and has some ability to move with the ball too.
September 11th, 2022 at 1:01 AM ^
Hate to say it. This looks like a good explanation for the inexplicable debacle with OL for a couple of drives.
September 11th, 2022 at 5:03 AM ^
The rushed throws and sacks were pretty much total whiffs by the o-line, not “indecisiveness“ by Cade. I think it’s a genuine concern, especially since Cade’s first series was with the starters, who acquitted themselves poorly on all 3 plays.
September 11th, 2022 at 1:10 AM ^
This x 10000. The throw that Stokes dropped was about 3 seconds too late. Cade just takes way too long to make a decision.
September 11th, 2022 at 5:57 AM ^
Are you talking about this game or in general? Because Cade is very good at getting the ball out on time, like one of the best in the country.
That is why our sack rate was elite last year despite our pass protection being merely above average.
September 11th, 2022 at 7:31 AM ^
^^ This. Cade is too tentative. He also has the mobility of Matthew Stafford.
September 11th, 2022 at 8:50 AM ^
Matthew Stafford is not a scrambler but can run when the opportunity presents itself. He had clutch scrambles in the playoffs last year, in year 13.
September 11th, 2022 at 8:43 AM ^
I mean Zinter totally missed a block! Lamar Jackson wouldn’t have escaped the pocket in that scenario.
September 11th, 2022 at 12:23 AM ^
They averaged 10.7 yards per play.
September 11th, 2022 at 12:25 AM ^
Sloppy/bored.
Seriously.
We have enough tape on Zinter to know that just getting dusted like he did on that first Cade sack is not normal for him. And there were backups in for a lot of that stuff.
Hawaii is a blow-off game. UConn next week is terrible. Our first three games may be three of the ten worst teams in FBS. Keeping focus is a big challenge for the players and the coaches.
September 11th, 2022 at 12:37 AM ^
Maybe Zinter didn’t see the Mike was coming and so assumed Oluwatimi was inside to help him?
Or maybe he just messed up his footwork somehow?
September 11th, 2022 at 6:38 AM ^
Good to learn this now. I don't see this as anything but learning opportunity. Any lineman who gives up a sack like that is going to be humble. Cade needs to see that now if nothing else.
September 11th, 2022 at 7:31 AM ^
They'll fix it
September 11th, 2022 at 12:42 AM ^
Jj has 4 "tune up" games before Penn St. Yes I'm counting out Iowa because their offense is so bad JJ making mistakes probably won't hurt too bad in the end, but that's why tune up is in quotes. Iowa's defense is legit and will make him work. Still not even sure how good Penn St offense is but I'm certain it's better than Iowa so mistakes will need to be ironed out by then. Then we have the bye week followed by those fucks.
September 11th, 2022 at 11:22 AM ^
Iowa’s D seems legit - will be a test for JJ. Now he probably doesn’t need to score that high on the test for Michigan to win, but it’s still one of the toughest defenses he’s likely to face this year.
September 11th, 2022 at 12:34 AM ^
I mean on one of them it was a freshman guard that got beat.
the zinter one is less explainable.
September 11th, 2022 at 2:24 AM ^
You're trying to tell me that one whiff by his o-line in one series was a deciding factor?
C'mon man. He can't feel pocket pressure. He checks down like he's scared on every pass. He's seeing ghosts.
He was never going to play in the NFL. He got that TB12 money after his B10 ring.
September 11th, 2022 at 3:03 AM ^
Doesn’t excuse all the rest of it, but both sacks were complete whiffs by a guard that gave the defense insta-pressure.
September 11th, 2022 at 6:00 AM ^
"He can't feel pocket pressure" is so false. The guy has many faults but he's got incredible pocket presence and one series does not change that, the same way that any one series wouldn't change the fact that JJ is the better option.
If you want to see poor pocket presence, watch some Shea Patterson tape.
September 11th, 2022 at 5:22 PM ^
Yeah. His general ability to avoid the rush is almost savant like. This was a shitty game for him, and he only had a few snaps. JJ is clearly the guy though, just be fair to Cade FFS.
People just say whatever sounds good in their own head.
September 12th, 2022 at 2:10 PM ^
His general ability to avoid the rush is almost savant like.
That ability is something that can go away, though. Not sure I'd go so far as calling him a savant; actually the QB that comes to mind as a savant as feeling and evading pressure was 2016 Speight. It was unreal. And then after Iowa, he was broken, and never got fixed. That ability to feel pressure was long gone in 2017.
September 11th, 2022 at 12:21 AM ^
A new era begins…one of points and downfield bombs.
It’s a beautiful thing!
September 11th, 2022 at 1:11 AM ^
And a much more weaponized redzone offense. A mobile QB helps so much in that area. Getting TDs in the redzone is something Harbaugh has struggled with since arriving.
September 11th, 2022 at 12:22 AM ^
We came into the season thinking we had 2000 Henson/Brady. We now know we have 2010 Robinson/Forcier. Denard must be envious of the defense that JJ has supporting him.
September 11th, 2022 at 1:28 AM ^
That was 1999. In 2000 it was just Henson, with Navarre far behind.
September 11th, 2022 at 12:22 AM ^
Denard McCarthy.
September 11th, 2022 at 12:22 AM ^
JJ looked great and I don't see how he would not be the starter. But, I feel like Cade got a few tough breaks today and it almost seems like this QB competition has rattled him mentally. He just seems way off.
September 11th, 2022 at 12:30 AM ^
But that's part of the competition. If his own teammate rattles him, imagine how the Shoe would rattle him. Mental toughness is integral to playing QB.
September 11th, 2022 at 12:32 AM ^
I'm with you I just feel bad for him and wish it was not the way he went out.
September 11th, 2022 at 12:42 AM ^
Cade showed some real toughness last season. Last year's Ohio State game was at home, but after years of losing that game, there was a ton of pressure on him.
September 11th, 2022 at 12:53 AM ^
Or maybe not? All words coming out of camp was how good Cade was doing and he was voted team captain. All signs pointed to Cade being QB1 coming out of camp before Harbaugh was like not so fast.
I feel like he was fine until that point cause he thought he was starter based on camp and his teammates. I think during the last game Cade realized his time was QB1 was set, they were just dragging it on. Being rattled from knowing / thinking your #1 to realizing during the game the fans don’t even want you here can be a real shell shock.
