A colleague comes up to me in the hallway a couple of years ago and asks me how my weekend was.  I say fine, wish the Michigan game had gone better (I feel like it was the weekend in 2014 Michigan lost to Notre Dame in South Bend.)  I return the ask.  She says "Oh, it was nice, went apple picking with the kids, met a super nice guy there with his grandkids, people kept going up to him like they knew him...turned out he was John Beilein.  Really nice, has clear opinions about apples from what I heard."

And I was like "Yes, of course he does, because of course he does."

Back in 2010, I was in line at subway on state and packard and none other than Beilein walked in and got in line behind me. He asked me how the flatbread was, but then elected to get a sub. It was crazy

Quick story, my special needs son and I were picking up his brother from the Michigan football camp when we stumbled into the wrong building.  Coach B was getting the registration table set up for his basketball camp later that day when he saw my son.  My son also recognized Coach B and ran over to give him a hug.  Coach put his arm around him, took him over to the campers table, and gave him a reversible U-M practice jersey......and he insisted we take it despite my objections.

Many happy returns, Coach!

I ran into Coach Beilein at Detroit Metro Airport Delta lounge once. He was sitting by himself at a table so I walked up to say hi. He gave me a real hard time on the green t-shirt I was wearing on the day, but was otherwise really really nice and friendly.
