Glad we dodged a bullet & didn't get Terrance Shannon.....

Submitted by BlueinKyiv on December 10th, 2022 at 2:52 PM

....for all those complaining about him being the missing piece...Shannon gets in deep ruts...no points in regulation against Texas and now 3 points all game in loss to power house Penn State.

Not saying, I wouldn't take him as another option on this Michigan roster but he is far from the instant next piece for a conference championship everyone suggested.

Youre crazy.  The problem with Illinois right now is that they are reinventing their entire team and trying to figure out who their best players are and how to use them.  Shannon wasn't built to be a star, he was built to be the ultimate secondary option.  Score, defend, rebound, etc.  Plug him in to play off Hunter and he'd be fine.  Illinois just has so many wild cards that he's the top of the scouting report and he's trying to find his way.

Aso, Underwood is an ass and I wonder if he regrets it now after getting screamed at all game and having his hot head coach make a fart noise in the post game presser when asked about Shannon's leadership.

I think OP if you are really wondering what isn’t working for people on your thread it’s the title. Your post was fine. There is nothing wrong with suggesting that maybe a particular player wouldn’t have solved every problem for a particular team. Couching it as “dodging a bullet” on the other hand makes it seem very definitive then you can say for certain the team would’ve been worse off with that player on it. It just seems a little unnecessarily negative and definitive. The truth is, we have absolutely no idea how this player would’ve affected this roster. That said, I’m not all that worked up about your post. Maybe your are right. Maybe you were wrong. This is the internet.

The title was horrible and the post was really dumb. When one relies on oversimplification and anecdotal fallacies to support an argument one has come up with out of their own boredom and thrusted it on a fandom like it was necessary piece of information…it’s why folks like me leave this blog for long stretches. Thank god, he started getting dragged.

OP seems to be comparing Shannon to the best in the game, instead of to the people on our roster who he would be playing instead of. It can be true that he would have been a huge addition who would have made Michigan much better, and also true that he's only very good, not a transcendent player

Exactly - he wouldn't be playing instead of Bufkin. Last I checked we need more than 1 guard, and right now Bufkin is our only good one (barring McDaniel's one good game against Minnesota). Wouldn't it be nice to have a better player playing alongside Bufkin instead of McDaniel or the non-guards we're being forced to play there?

Again, people are confusing the currently shot handed point guard position as somehow related to a player (TJ Shannon) who may actually be a better fit at center or any position but the point.

We actually are starting to have some depth at the 2 and 3 slot that Shannon would have played.  Look how hard it has been to get time for Barnes despite him shooting lights out from the 3 every time he has been on the court.

Honestly, if we had our choice of an Illini player, I would definitely take Mayer. Him at the 4 would plug our biggest weakness on offense and he is no worse than our defenders at that spot. Then again, Andre Curbelo transferring here from Illini (instead of St. Johns) might have helped the team more as well.  What is my point...again, that we need to get over the idea that TJ Shannon is the missing link to a UM championship season.

He's a talented guy who would take a ton of pressure off everyone to initiate the offense and would also be a plus defender.  Yes he's not perfect but UM has a really short bench and without Llewellyn they're going to be forced to play guys longer than you'd like just to have some offensive flow out there.

Terrible take. And Underwood should grow a pair and stop imitating Tom Izzo on the sideline by yelling at everyone within 20 feet when your team is getting blown out by Penn State on your home court

This is why those are jumping off the ledge need to chill the fuck out. ITS BASKETBALL! Teams lose at home to terrible teams. Beilein lost games like this multiple times. Juwan and Co will be fine. We are gonna continue improving as the season goes along. Go Blue!

Oooooh, good thing we only measure the skill of a player by their “deep ruts.”

He’s the leading scorer on a Top 25 ranked team, while we have a backcourt that, if Shannon gets in deep ruts, digs trenches.

I’d welcome a guy who scores 19ppg despite his “deep ruts.” Seems like can still get really hot and score double digits against Texas. Better than pre-injury Llewelyn.

Why are you cherry-picking stats on a player who didn’t come here and shutting on him? I’m pretty sure, if he was here, he’d have helped us in the games we lost due to have two guys who are the offense and a bunch of question marks. Imagine having a guy who, when Hunter or Jett were cold May actually be able to score.

I have wondered if Caleb Houstan left because of Jett.   Jett is fantastic.  Glad he’s here.

But I have never been a fan of Terrence Williams’ game.  I find him to be very limited and M is probably already getting the most out of him they will get.

Then I imagine having Houstan in T-Will’s spot, and holy hell does M have something at that point.  I could play PG with that crew and things would still go well.

yah, i’m sure his “deep ruts” have nothing to do with the fact that he’s playing for the second-biggest turd in the conference.  why anyone would choose to play for that guy is mystifying.
