Gatlin Bair Senior Hghlights
As if we needed more reasons to want this kid. Idaho competition nothwithstanding, he blends sprinter speed with size and excellent ball skills. Oregon is closer to home, but hopefully Michigan is closer to his heart.

Am I supposed to know who Gatlin Bair is?
edit: I’m getting some mixed messages from the replies but I think I’m picking up an answer of “yes”
December 8th, 2023 at 8:57 AM ^
Yes. 4* WR from Idaho that just decommited from Boise State and is trending blue. However, he is planning to go on a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints so we won’t see him for a couple more years
December 8th, 2023 at 8:57 AM ^
Only if you follow Michigan recruiting
December 8th, 2023 at 9:57 AM ^
Or if you follow MGoBlog.

Top-35 overall player who plays Wide Receiver. Blazing speedster type who has good size. Comes from Idaho, but we've had a good track record with our Idaho player.
He plans to go on a Mormon Mission after he graduates so he won't be on campus until 2026.
December 8th, 2023 at 8:59 AM ^
Yes. He is a top WR target for us. He surprisingly committed to Boise State over us and some others, but then decommitted recently.
He would be the top rated player in our class if he committed to Michigan.
December 8th, 2023 at 9:08 AM ^
Yes. And if you don't now, you definitely will in the future.
December 8th, 2023 at 9:31 AM ^
It would have taken you as much time to google his name as it did to post this reply.

Well, the Grizzly Bear is the biggest and the Polar Bear is the most resourceful but the Gatlin Bair is the fastest.
December 8th, 2023 at 11:12 AM ^
The Polar bear – also known as Ursus maritimus – is the largest terrestrial carnivore, whereas the Grizzly bear – the North American brown bear – is the second largest terrestrial flesh-eating mammal
But the Gatlan Bair is undisputably the fastest.
December 8th, 2023 at 11:41 AM ^
Per Fred Jackson: "like Christian McCaffrey only faster"
December 8th, 2023 at 1:52 PM ^
Are you a Michigan fan...then yes...otherwise...
December 8th, 2023 at 8:56 AM ^
Looking forward to this kid blazing past safeties in 2027 and beyond.
December 8th, 2023 at 9:32 AM ^
And kick returns
December 8th, 2023 at 11:18 AM ^
Looking forward to this kid blazing past safeties in 2027 and beyond.
This gave me a Sam McGuffie flash back.
(Not saying Bair is won't work out. But, in McGuffie's case, there was a lot of hype which ended up being not well founded.)
December 8th, 2023 at 11:58 AM ^
Wasn't McGuffie always getting concussions?
December 8th, 2023 at 12:14 PM ^
Yes, he ran really upright and took full contact. I still remember his highlight reel (replete with hurdle) and was gushing about he was going to be the MAN at UM.
December 8th, 2023 at 2:14 PM ^
McGuffie was the reason I got into Mgoblog. I was a freshman, and after the Oregon loss I was a bit despondent. My friend said “cheer up, we have this RB coming in next year who’s apparently the next Reggie Bush.” So I googled McGuffie and…the rest is history
December 8th, 2023 at 8:59 AM ^
Thanks for posting. I'm excited to get him. I'm going to hold off on the highlights until the Summer of '26. Don't want to get too excited. He would be really nice on next years team.
Would you mind reposting the link then? :)
December 8th, 2023 at 9:08 AM ^
He hasn’t committed to us yet.
Given that he wouldn’t be ready to play football until 2026, I wouldn’t regard a commitment to be set in stone anyhow.
December 8th, 2023 at 9:18 AM ^
Good point that he hasn't committed yet. Tea leaves seem pretty strong. Wiltfong crystal ball is a strong sign.
December 8th, 2023 at 9:07 AM ^
He will be bigger, faster, and more mature by the time he comes. Would be a huge get.
December 8th, 2023 at 9:38 AM ^
He'll definitely be more mature but probably won't be bigger or faster, as LDS missionaries are really limited in the amount of training they have time for.
December 8th, 2023 at 10:09 AM ^
this. Gentry was talking about how little he could work out on his mission
December 9th, 2023 at 10:40 AM ^
And he's an NFL player now
December 8th, 2023 at 9:09 AM ^
I think he's making a smart move. He should know in the next 3 years if Harbaugh is close to signing a new contract any day now.
December 8th, 2023 at 9:25 AM ^
1. It is unfair to have a 6'2" kid who runs a [4.2x] 40 playing against 5'8" DBs who probably run 5.0 40s.
2. You can tell that the coach has been gifted a sensational athlete and is trying to figure out every possible way to use him. WR, RB, jet sweep, halfback pass after he's swarmed by the D, everything on defense.
3. It is unfair to have a 6'2" kid who runs a [4.2x] 40 playing DE against slow footed ID QBs.
4. Most impressive play for me is when Blair is playing [DE] and he recognizes the screen pass almost immediately and makes the play. Shows that he has some football smarts on top of his athletic abilities.
Do want.
December 8th, 2023 at 9:43 AM ^
Good points. I did see him making some good contested catches, even while being interfered with, in there as well, so he's not just a speed guy.
Also maybe I don't know HS football rules, but are you not allowed to jam WRs at the line? Because running press man coverage against one of the fastest kids in the country AND not jamming him seems like coaching malpractice.
December 8th, 2023 at 12:30 PM ^
Appears to be a very driven young man as well. Decided to focus on football (only) as a Senior so he focused on track as a Junior. He posted the 2nd (?) fastest HS time in the US for the year. He ran a 10.18 100m (wind aided) and several in the 10.2s. For reference - Denard's best time in the 100 was 10.56........ Xavier Worthy's was 10.55.
December 8th, 2023 at 9:25 AM ^
I likey..sign him up
December 8th, 2023 at 9:43 AM ^
I'll watch after he signs his LOI.
December 8th, 2023 at 10:10 PM ^
Smart man. I just watched and instantly regretted it. Utterly dominant. I don't care about the competition level; he is flying across the field.
December 8th, 2023 at 9:54 AM ^
I thought I read that Boise promoted an assistant after firing Avalos. Dunno if that "continuity" would have any impact on Bair's decision.
Regardless, with his mission trip it'll be a long while before he's on anyone's campus.
December 8th, 2023 at 10:04 AM ^
maybe but he said he was done and down to Oregon and Michigan when he decomitted. Shit can change but it wasn't a keeping the door open to Boise at the time situation.
December 8th, 2023 at 9:59 AM ^
Does anyone know what the trend/track record with the recruits who go the Mormon Mission route? Do they usually end up where they committed?
December 8th, 2023 at 10:02 AM ^
He treats the safeties like they are not even there. It’s like his route is just set up to beat the db and that is easily done with his speed. Impressive
December 8th, 2023 at 10:46 AM ^
in before “Why would he come here? We don’t throw the ball ever!”
December 8th, 2023 at 11:15 AM ^
Pad level too high. Do not want.
December 8th, 2023 at 11:17 AM ^
Why on earth am I seeing these kids, who will go pro in something other than sports, playing press coverage against Gatlin Bair?
December 8th, 2023 at 11:32 AM ^
From NeverPunt earlier in the thread:
Also maybe I don't know HS football rules, but are you not allowed to jam WRs at the line? Because running press man coverage against one of the fastest kids in the country AND not jamming him seems like coaching malpractice.
Is press coverage different from jamming? Cause these seem completely opposite.
December 8th, 2023 at 11:52 AM ^
Press means the cb is right up on the wr at the LOS. Jamming is only allowed within a few yards, so the only way to legally jam is while playing Press coverage
December 8th, 2023 at 12:41 PM ^
Wait, those were real kids lined up on D? I thought they were just stationary tackling dummies.
December 8th, 2023 at 12:02 PM ^
#1 in his heart!〽️〽️〽️
December 8th, 2023 at 3:16 PM ^
I honestly had never really watched his highlights, but his acceleration is insane. I always thought he probably just had good long speed, but his acceleration and change of direction to get separation is crazy
December 8th, 2023 at 8:08 PM ^
I commented the first time we posted this. Idaho competition has a way of making people look really good - especially speed. But Bair’s track times are objectively absurd. He’s legit. We would get him in 26 and maybe would need a redshirt year so this is the slow-cooker set it and remember it when the timer goes off kinda thing fwiw
December 9th, 2023 at 12:12 PM ^
2027 would be Jaydn Davis' Senior year and Gatlin Bair's Redshirt Frosh or Soph season. That sounds okay by me.
