Gary's health - anyone know?

I know nothing official has been announced. I know he has had a chronic shoulder issue. Does anyone know how bad it is? Anyone have any "unofficial" insight? I know we could rest him vs Maryland - but I love watching him play.

As a complete non-insider, it appears to be a chronic shoulder injury that needs time to heal but won't get significantly worse by playing through it. I think taking Maryland off would be wise because we will need him for the ground game of Wisconsin and MSU's goofy running QB. We get a bye week after that so he can get additional rest then.

Having had one myself, it wouldn't surprise me if it's a torn labrum. It's an injury that can be quite painful at times, but it's also one that doesn't get worse. Usually, once the body warms up, it's less bothersome, but you can easily tweak it (pushing open large glass doors always got me). Only way to correct it is via a simple surgery. However, it's a rather lengthy recovery due to it being a shoulder. Anti-inflammatories and painkillers make the pain more manageable.

Brian has been lamenting about Gary not starting with his speed rush and then going to a power rush.  I've been wondering if he is shying away from that forceful contact with arms fully extended because of the injury.  If it's limiting his pass rush moves it would go a long way to explaining why he's been somewhat underwhelming this year.

IF it is a torn labrum, rest will do nothing for it. And that's why I think it "could" be a labrum because he is still playing. Obviously, we wont know until draft time, but if we aren't in the CFB and it is indeed that injury, I suspect Gary will get surgery immediately after the season and skip the bowl game. It's a 3-6 month recovery time.

It's better to rest Gary, so long as the rest makes an actual difference, for the more important games ahead of us. Plus, our depth on the D-line has looked good.

on that note, is Hutchinson redshirting or did he get banged up as the reason we didn't see him sat? I missed any previous discussions on him.

Unsure about Gary but can confirm Metellus is wearing a wrist brace on campus today, he is unsure of his status for this weekend.

I may be wrong but I'm pretty sure Metellus was back on the field after he got taken off. Gary as well, although he was removed again. No knowledge here but it seems like both might miss Maryland as a precaution but should be back against Wisconsin. If we get Evans/Solomon back for that too we'll be as close to healthy as we have been all year.

OK, let's play him and risk more injury just because you love watching him.

He's been nursing his shoulder all season.  No one's said anything official and they won't.  He'll probably keep playing as long as he's able and/or needed.  I hope they give him a rest because we will need a lot more against Wiscy than against Maryland.

Um, he's sick. My best friend's sister's boyfriend's brother's girlfriend heard from this guy who knows this kid who's going with the girl who saw Rashan pass out at 31 Flavors last night. I guess it's pretty serious.
