Gameday to State College Next Week

Submitted by stephenrjking on

Just came across my ESPN app. I'm not jumping off a bridge like some others are, but I confess I am less excited about this than I was before it became clear that our offense has less air power than Saddam Hussein after Desert Storm.

Well they wouldn’t be wrong......

The other three coaches have either won a national title, made the playoff, won at least one conference title, or won multiple big games they weren’t supposed to win. Harbaugh has done none of those things at Michigan yet, and likely won’t do any of it this year.

Which is a completely stupid comparison in the first place given that Harbaugh has only been here for 2.5 seasons. Harbaugh's complete body of work compares favorably against any coach in football, especially those who are following the rules. Man, the total lack of perspective, persistence, and courage is unreal. Steel in the spine people.

Will we still have umpteen whiny threads about our deficiencies, or a bit of euphoria that we are 6-1, having beaten the #2 team in the country and facing 3 very winnable games?

Yeah Penn State is not that good. We will be in this game and have a chance in the 4th. We need to generate turnovers via big hits on McSorley and hopefully a Hill pick. We have more talent on this team then Penn State does. Just need to put it together and string together momentum plays and we can win this

I agree that Penn State isn't top 5 good.

But we're more not that good than they are.  Our defense is the best overall unit, but our offense is a fucking tire fire.  They are very solid, albeit unspectactular, on both sides of the ball

We may have more talent according to Rivals, but that doesn’t mean shit right now. The defense has lived up to its billing and then some. But the offense is a goddamn mess.

I don’t think next week will be a blowout, but It’ll be one of those 31-17 kind of games where it feels like if the offense was even halfway competent we could win. I’m thinking PSU will take what Brown gives them and be content with watching Michigan’s offense shit all over itself.

Penn st is beatable. They are balanced but not dominant. Again our defense will keep us in any game this season. If the O line builds off of today and the running game keeps rolling we can control the clock. Just can't let that environment beat us. Okorn needs to hit his check downs and offense need to run the ball downhill like today. We can beat them. Get rid of those penalties as well

When is the last time Michigan won a game like this? Meaning, on the road against a top flight opponent who is favored?

I’m not saying we can’t win this game, but it would be a huge feat and accomplishment. Backs against the wall boys, let’s find a way to get it done.

Did ND end up even being any good that year, or was that just another “Holy shit we beat ND we’re the real deal” fools gold kind of games?

I’m thinking the last game we won that was truly a big game, and we weren’t supposed to win, was the ‘08 Capital One Bowl against Tebow. Fuck that’s sad. Literally almost every team in the conference has won one of those games since we beat Florida ten years ago.

It is Saturday night now. Nearly 7 full days until kickoff.

Reading many of the comments in this thread, I am beginning to feel optimistic. Almost confident.

This isn't supposed to happen until Thursday or Friday before the game.

Slow down folks, or else I might be feeling 49-10 by Saturday morning.

This defense is good enough to keep them in any game. The problem is that this offense is bad enough to let any opponent in any game. Point being, I don't see this team getting blown out by anyone, but wins against top 50 teams are going to be tough. I wouldn't be shocked though if they upset PSU, OSU or Wisconsin. Defense really is that good.

our D is not deep enough, we saw that today, to last

I just don't see us keeping this close for long.  Our O is just terrible and one dimensional.

Just want to point out that Haskins is getting the 4th quarter reps for Ohio St. right now because they are up 56-14. May be garbage time but guess what we never have in our games most of the time. It sucks that we never get to see our guys like Brandon Peters to know what they can do in actual game action like that. They are even throwing the ball because this is training so they can move from a QB who won't be around next year.

Update: Burrows is getting snaps too.

Wow. Okay. Be a fucking douchebag motherfucker. I didn't have any doomsday attitude in my response to you and the post you responded to didn't either. I was merely pointing out it would be nice if we could get some reps for our guys like that. The point wasn't to whine but since I don't know you and you want to be a prick to me, have a good night anyway I guess.
