crg, they get away in a van, and the bikes fly, and ET asks the boy to go with him to outer space, but i won't ruin it for you and tell you if the lad goes or stays.

Cue the "everything's been shit since they ran out of book material" crowd.....

Been a long year and a half, but can't wait. My wife is friggin' beside herself waiting for this final season to come out.

No, I never read the books. Just think that the show went from epic (one of the best shows ever made) to somewhat meh after the creators had to write it on their own. I'll still suck it up and finish the show when it airs. Hopefully I'm pleasantly surprised with their wrap-up.

IMO, the biggest mistake that the show made was with Stannis Baratheon.

First, I thought he was a great character.  And while the actor who played him has gone on record saying he did not really enjoy it and did not get it, I thought that he was one of the most fascinating characters on the show and thought he would certainly play into the long game.

Second, they essentially devoted an entire season building up Stannis' role in the narrative and making him really badass only to have him 1) make the most inexplicable and narratively unsupportable decision of all time, and 2) killed in quick cut fashion within 2 EPISODES.  I was like, "what did I just watch the last 8 episodes for?"

(And sorry for spoilers, but if you have not watched Season 5 of GOT yet you are just not going to watch the show at this point).

I do think the show rebounded with a strong season 6.  Season 7 was up and down, but had some spectacular moments.  Would be nice if they would stick the landing.

Biggest disappointment for me is is that there are less and less boob scenes as the seasons go on.  Danaryous showed her body quite a bit in the first few seasons, and now all of a sudden she is covering herself with a blanket.  I assume the actress got a new deal and has more pull in what she shows.  Disappointing to me.

I read all the books, have only caught part of the series.

I might be a wimp, but the series was just too hard core in it's violence for me. (The books aren't much better, admittedly).

To be fair to the show runners though, George, while a very talented writer, left them utterly hanging.

Completely agree, the series came out in '96, I read the first book in '97.  If he was going to finish the series he would have done it by now.  He lost interest once he killed off the main thrust of the conflict with the Red Wedding and could never get his fastball back.  It has been 18 and a half years since the last good book(A Storm of Swords) in the Series came out.

It's better to think of the book series as a great and open ended trilogy and the TV series as being the completion of the story.

Read the books long before watching the show - and honestly only started watching the show since it takes almost decade for Martin to publish each book and I was sick of waiting.  My assement is that (thus far) the books are better, but the show is decent enough.  It would have better if he finished the whole story first and then published (wholey or in segments) rather the writing it in piecemeal, which would allow better editing/revision to keep the story arc smooth and on track).

"Book is better than the movie (show)" guy is obnoxious most of the time. Books are only as good as one's imagine allows them to be. I'm glad I never read books that have been adapted for film. Game of Thrones is a perfect show. It's the best show.
