ESS EEE SEE 0-4 in bowl games

[UPDATE 10:17 PM: 0-4 now with Miss State getting crushed by Texas Tech]

The mighty SEC starting off 0-3 in bowl games after Auburn goes down to Houston. Meanwhile, the B1G is waiting until Dec 28 to have its first team play. With 10 teams from our conference to make a bowl game (late addition Rutgers included), it's supporting my long standing opinion, and probably some of yours too, that the top heavy SEC is extremely one dimensional.

Can't wait to see Minny lace 'em up tonight.

Can't wait to see Finebaum eat more of his words once the bowl season is over.

"But Pauuuuuuuuuuul....."

Any other bowl game revelations you'd like to share?

I'm trying to imagine the off-season recruiting pitch from Harbaugh to Dante Moore:

Harbaugh: We'd really love for you to come to UM in '23, Dante. We're coming off the national championship. We molded Cade McNamara into a championship QB with NFL prospects, JJ McCarthy might have a chance to go pro after 3 years. We'll need you to continue in their footsteps.

Moore: Yeah, Coach, but you beat Cincy in the title game. If only you'd beaten Alabama, I'd really consider UM. As it stands, I'm leaning penn state because james franklin is such a gosh darn good recruiter.

It's theoretically possible for the SEC to:

go 0-3 against AAC teams heading to the Big XII.

go 0-3 against Big XII teams that are staying.

go 0-4 against Big Ten teams.

These are all mutually exclusive events too!  A combined 0-11 record is on the table.

Texas Tech with the early lead on Mississippi State as I type.

Even crazier, all three SEC teams now finish with 6-7 records. All three were on Georgia's schedule. Georgia's SOS continues to plummet. They have zero wins vs anyone in the Top 20. Their stats are impressive, but their level of competition is not great.

SEC SEC SEC!! Who the fuck roots for a conference??? I don’t chant Big Ten after games! I have one team I care about fuck OSU, fuck MSU, fuck PSU, fuck Nebraska. The worse they are the better it is for Michigan!!

Hard to believe that dude is a football coach.  He's more like your 8th grade Shop teacher that disappears for long stretches of time.

He's a press conference and sideline interview institution though.

Two of Georgia's biggest/most hyped wins (Florida and Auburn) don't look so spectacular in hindsight. Add in Clemson's season, and there certainly seems to be some truth to the "Georgia has played nobody!" narrative. We will find out soon enough!

Gee. maybe voting half of the playoff spots automatically to the SEC really IS the unmitigated bullshit that it seemed to be.

They have rigged the system so ridiculously.  We either need an expanded playoff of a 1-team per conference rule.

Do people actually root for only the Big Ten in bowls? Until a conference knocks off the SEC in the CFP consistently, they’ll continue to get the “bias” they get. Who cares if their conference loses every bowl game. If they win the championship year in and year out, then they’ll continue to get the benefit of the doubt. The best way to knock them off their pedestal is to actually do it in games that matter on a consistent basis. Until then, they’ll be considered the best conference even if they lose every other meaningless bowl.

You're absolutely right. The SEC has been dominant for a long time and have earned their reputation. Our rivals have gone against them and gotten completely demolished.

However, while these are all barely bowl eligible teams that lost (I wouldn't say Maryland or Rutgers blowing it is any sort of indictment of the Big Ten), it's hard to tell whether or not the top of the SEC is actually the real deal this year. Michigan had some battles while Georgia cakewalking through the season may have been the result of a weak schedule. We'll find out soon enough, but I can't help but feel a little more confident after seeing these scores.

What it continues to show is that most conferences, including the damn SEC, have 2-3 really good teams at best every year. Everyone else is average. If the playoff expands, no more than 2 teams from a conference need to be in it. You look at the SEC and Bigten this year, nobody besides Bama, Georgia, Michigan and OSU should make an 8 team playoff. I don’t care what side of the conference they play on, pick the best 2 teams. ESPN and the media are the ones who hype up the entire SEC as elite.
