Since Elston been here, recruiting has.been good, but not pressure and sacks.

Just had a quick look and the team has recently had sacks in the mid 30s which seems to be consistent, with last year being 37 (more than the Hutch/Ojabo season the year before). The heydays were Don Brown's first two years with 46 and 42 respectively.
For QB hurries, last year was about what we've been averaging since Harbaugh has been here (30) the anomaly was Hutch's last year when we had 50! Hutchinson himself had 12 which is a monster number, I think the most any other player has had in the Harbaugh era is 8.

Run defense forces a lot of TFL. Pass rush did not show up

Yeah, but not enough holding calls either. Refs seemed pretty lenient, I thought Barnhart and Hinton got away with a couple too.

I mean ECU was doing the all slants and fades gameplan... The ends aren't Hutchinson/Ojabo, but I thought they did a decent job, along with the DTs to collapse the pocket in the time they had before the ball came out. DTs in particular generated decent pressure a few times.

Hutchinson/Ojabo? Come on they weren't even Mike Morris. I liked what I saw from McGregor, but Moore and Stewart were disappointing. It was nice to see Grant impose himself (A LOT) and Jenkins clearly got the Aaron Donald treatment but man...nobody popped on the edge.

Great defense today. Room for improvement of course, especially with pass rush. Not sure we even called a blitz today. When you call time out to kick a last second field goal to avoid a 30-0 shutout, you know you were substantially outplayed. ECU probably best team we face in first 3 games and they played hard whole game. BTW forgot for most of the game Will was out. Sign of good depth.

I think our 4 best DTs may be our best pass rush and im being serious. These DEs sprinting 5 yards past the pocket are tedious to watch id rather watch them try to block Grant, Graham, Jenkins and whoever we want to add to that.

I think we were getting pressure most of the game, but the combination of basically all of our starting secondary being out and ECU getting the ball out quick hindered our ability to get to the QB.

CMU literally had zero passing offense against MSU's secondary. That's how bad they are. Their only offense was when their QB had wild scrambles

Some pressure came from the interior, such as when Grant forced an early throw that was intercepted by Sainristl. But yes, blitzing would have resulted in more pressure.

Edge play was pretty meh, secondary not an issue

Defensive line had poor pass rush; some of the defensive backs could not cover. Good run defense.

For being a “freak” I thought Jenkins was non existent. I expected more out of Macgregor and the D in general getting pressure. Game 1 and we did what was expected. Mason Graham once again graded out very high.

Look, if you are expecting double digit sacks from Jenkins, you need to reset your expectations for pass rush from a 3 or 5 tech. Jenkins was very disruptive today and played well despite eating doubles every snap. The edges were the weakness, not Jenkins.

People talking about Jenkins like we got a new player. He played last season right? And he was good real good but to think the guy that didnt break offenses last year would do it this year is wishful thinking. I still think he is a really damn good player though.

Virtual shutout. The pass rush could have been better. However, they did get one INT, almost had another one. Expectations are very high so it's easy to underperform.

Defense was missing a lot of guys and had a few with nagging injuries and they played it safe. Nice to see Barrett, Colson, and Hausmann looking solid and all get solid playing time.
