Does anyone have plans to use the upcoming NIL rights to get money to Michigan athletes?

I'm curious if anyone has any plans of doing anything. I would buy some of the players a sandwich if I ran into them at Jimmy Johns. (Would that be allowed?) Otherwise, I don't really think I'd start funneling money to players.

We also should get Brian to get players to do endorsements for MGoBlog. There could be a separate beveled guilt link to fund it.

I'd wait to see what the NCAA's new rules look like first. I highly doubt they'll jump in with both feet. Likely the first pass will be extremely restrictive and force businesses and schools to work through them so they can regulate (read: profit off of) it. It'll slowly get beat back with lawsuits and public pressure, but it'll be a while before an individual can simply write a check to a player, IMO.

i think i should sell the naming rights to our cattle, and we can call them our favorite michigan players names.  maybe put a number on them.  with echoes of keith jackson in your head (i hear he's fine, living in pasadena, and damn any rumors to the contrary) as he announces, 'look at those big uglies, driving for the hay wheel!  he's at the fence post, now past the gate, he leaps, touchdown!!'

In order to take full advantage of this new rule it absolutely has to be a part of the recruiting process in making offers, however I know that is exactly what the NCAA wants to avoid.  JH being JH, I get the feeling he is not willing to blatantly break the rules, which unfortunately means we'll be a step behind the Clemsons & Bamas of the world who will do this.  I hope I'm wrong however and we get someone on this ASAP to coordinate making connections between recruits and potential advertisers.

MGoBlog apparel with name and likeness of every player - fun stuff with the player actually designing his own T-shirt.  Priced at $100 each ... profit goes directly to the players.

I don't think the players have to necessarily design it themselves (they can) but t-shirts featuring MGoBlog-isms and players seems like a good idea. And this may as well be done as a real business where both MGoBlog and the player profit and sell the t-shirts at normal prices.

I would like a shirt with DPJ in the Paul Bunyan pose.

Yes - at each home game we need to organize a post-game tailgate party where players can come provide autographs, selfies, etc.  Players could rake it in, especially those that had a fantastic game.  5000 autographs/selfies x $50 = $250,000 potential payout per game x 7 home games is a $1.75 million payout.   Talk about fan / player engagement !

Do you have any idea how much free shit scholarship athletes get?  What would a player be eating at Jimmy John's when they could be eating their meals prepared by team chefs? Are you really that clueless to how pampered Div I players are?

This post is virtue signaling mixed with ignorance and a healthy dose of douchebaggery.

Funny you say this on the very same day as this Free Press article, with the following quote:

For Schoonmaker personally, any added compensation would go toward his grocery budget.

"For most of the guys, too," he said. "We’re always hungry. It just helps during the week with being able to eat some more, have more money for that.

I think JH has probably had people looking into how we can take advantage of this already. I think of this similarly to trips across seas for the team. He found a way to provide a perk and recruiting tool that other schools weren't doing and took advantage of the Michigan money cannon. I bet we won't be far behind, or behind at all, other schools in order to gain commitments from top recruits by *exploiting* the new rules.

Seems easy...

Any top recruit names Jimmy or John gets percentage of local Jimmy John's sales.  Likewise for names like McDonald's, Burger, King, Taco (Charlton would have loved this), Bell (does not apply to Ronnie since he is already here) and on and on.

Just think of the possibilities  if there is ever a top recruit named Ann or Arbor!

I'm looking forward to loading up on Shea Patterson's first product endorsement:

Shea Butter Fingers & Hand Lotion

"Say goodbye to dry hands ... and the football!"

This is not allowing players to profit off their likeness. It's allowing them to BENEFIT off their likeness. A key distinction because the benefits have to be tethered to education. No cash/money allowed.

Essentially, this is pointless. From the NCPA:

"Please dismiss headlines about NCAA allowing player compensation for name, image, & likeness. The vote authorizes “benefits” not compensation. It’s said in the spring such benefits must be “tethered to education” (not cash). Another NCAA stall tactic & failure to lead."
