Does anyone have plans to use the upcoming NIL rights to get money to Michigan athletes?

I'm curious if anyone has any plans of doing anything. I would buy some of the players a sandwich if I ran into them at Jimmy Johns. (Would that be allowed?) Otherwise, I don't really think I'd start funneling money to players.

We also should get Brian to get players to do endorsements for MGoBlog. There could be a separate beveled guilt link to fund it.

Honestly I can’t wait to pick up more PE Jordan’s.  Unfortunately the ones I currently have may plummet in value, but I’ll be able to add to my collection.

not to mention game worn memorabilia I.e. cleats, basketball shoes, jerseys etc.

Let's just get some creative suggestions going.

Upgrade the Circle K hot dog and fixings to Shake Shack at least.

I will pay players $1 million for every touchdown against Ohio State, $750k for a turnover, $500k for a sack on Justin Fields (only $50k for sacking the backup), $100k for a TFL, $65k for a punt within the 10 yard line and $25k for a first down.

just think, if Ambry gets a pick six next month - that is a cool $1.75 million earned in 6 to 12 seconds!

I will wait to see NCAA guideline. I think that every real students should be allowed to represent the university, but they have to have a minimum of credit and register as a full time students (freshman not illegible) and maintain a minimum GPA and below a certain age say no more than 25.

That'd be hilarious if it were all laundered through MGoBlog. Stephen Ross, Larry Page, and everyone else just make donations to MGoBlog, which in turn puts all Michigan Football and Basketball Players on the site banner and pays each of them $500,000 per year for their likeness.

So simple!

How is buying someone a sandwich at Jimmy Johns compensating them for their name, image, or likeness? That's not even fairly compensating them for having to eat at Jimmy Johns.

Right.  The California law that's spurred all of this on -- and that the NCAA is hoping to be able to head off -- is meant to allow endorsements.  Autograph signings / selfies / etc. would presumably be considered fair game as well.

Now, that's not to say that the loopholes won't be big enough to drive a truck through...

1) I missed the part where anyone said they expected the NCAA to be able to competently do anything about anything.

2 and 3) It would help us be more competitive in recruiting, yes. The Michigan fanbase has a lot of buying power relative to other schools, including Bama/LSU/Clemson. It wouldn't just have to be Ross although Ross contributing to the cause would be great. We already benefit from his investments. Gene Smith isn't pushing this along because he wants it. He's pushing it along because he has to, like the rest of the NCAA. He's trying to make it as restrictive as possible, but the genie is going to be out of the bottle.

4) It's not a Title IX issue, so the women (and the men's tennis team) will get what the market sets.

5) I have not seen anyone say anything about creating jobs for compliance, but okay. So anyway, if you're saying that our ticket prices will go up due to the added expense, that's too bad. Last I checked, the ticket prices always periodically go up.

6) "any of you who think this levels the field and makes the sport more competitive...you are a damn fool...save about ten programs," Bingo! We're one of the ten.

"NCAA football will collapse."

Okay.

"football as we know it is done."

Okay. I mean, we used to not have a forward pass.

"Small schools are in the red as it stands...now you want to add more financial strain? And the logic that companies will just pitch in...HAAAA..."

Again, didn't see anyone say FedEx was going to come fund the Marshall Athletic Department but I also don't care.

So, we could start a managed fund purchasing the NIL rights of particular recruits, pursuant to his signing with and attending Michigan, during which time the collective will be able to make deals with various corporate sponsors on his behalf at a set % of compensation to the player.

I like it.
