Does anyone have plans to use the upcoming NIL rights to get money to Michigan athletes?
I'm curious if anyone has any plans of doing anything. I would buy some of the players a sandwich if I ran into them at Jimmy Johns. (Would that be allowed?) Otherwise, I don't really think I'd start funneling money to players.
We also should get Brian to get players to do endorsements for MGoBlog. There could be a separate beveled guilt link to fund it.

I’m planning on paying basketball recruits 100k so I can pass out temporary tattoos of their heads for Halloween.
October 29th, 2019 at 10:41 PM ^
I am planning on selling 16 oz hammers with McGrone's likeness
October 30th, 2019 at 6:51 AM ^
Uh...16 oz is a little mans hammer, his needs to be on a sledge.
October 30th, 2019 at 7:09 AM ^
Agreed. Who wouldn't want to own the "Cam McGrone 20 lb. Sledge"?
October 30th, 2019 at 9:32 PM ^
16 oz hammer? You think we built the Big House renovation with 16 oz hammers??
You think we built the "Million Dollar Wall" behind Ross with 16 oz hammers?
There are two types of people with 16 oz hammers:
1. Men who pee sitting down
2. Men with vaginas

Yeah, I plan on paying Meaghen Beaubien $20 for a HBD message to my daughter via Cameo
October 30th, 2019 at 9:09 AM ^
I'm not sure if this is a joke, but the first thought that popped into my mind was paying someone like her to come teach my daughters team how to stop walking every freaking batter.
October 30th, 2019 at 1:16 PM ^
Is this OP a joke? Buy them a sandwich? FFS. The players get free food 24/7, along with free health care and a cash stipend.
I'm totally for the new compensation formulas, but let's not act like these are disadvantaged youth that are walking around hungry.
October 30th, 2019 at 3:18 PM ^
Have you ever bought someone a beer? If so, was it because they couldn't afford it?
October 30th, 2019 at 3:30 PM ^
In the Free Press article about this today, Schoonmaker literally said that he would use any extra money on food, and that most guys are hungry all the time.
October 30th, 2019 at 3:47 PM ^
I saw that. They're hungry because like Michael Phelps, they are putting out much energy every day. He doesn't actually mean they are hungry from lack off food. Again, they can access food 24/7 for free

Nil from me
October 29th, 2019 at 10:54 PM ^
Honestly I can’t wait to pick up more PE Jordan’s. Unfortunately the ones I currently have may plummet in value, but I’ll be able to add to my collection.
not to mention game worn memorabilia I.e. cleats, basketball shoes, jerseys etc.
October 29th, 2019 at 10:55 PM ^
Let's just get some creative suggestions going.
Upgrade the Circle K hot dog and fixings to Shake Shack at least.
October 29th, 2019 at 11:21 PM ^
Shake Shack is an American Treasure
October 30th, 2019 at 12:21 AM ^
It's fine.
October 29th, 2019 at 10:58 PM ^
I will pay players $1 million for every touchdown against Ohio State, $750k for a turnover, $500k for a sack on Justin Fields (only $50k for sacking the backup), $100k for a TFL, $65k for a punt within the 10 yard line and $25k for a first down.
just think, if Ambry gets a pick six next month - that is a cool $1.75 million earned in 6 to 12 seconds!
October 29th, 2019 at 11:58 PM ^
The NCAA's guiding principles or whatever they released today specifically prohibits pay for athletic performance.
October 30th, 2019 at 12:16 AM ^
It’s for the likeness of his performance.
October 30th, 2019 at 12:33 AM ^
Perfect
October 30th, 2019 at 12:41 AM ^
It’s the implication......... ☀️
October 30th, 2019 at 7:38 AM ^
Calm down Dennis
October 30th, 2019 at 7:44 AM ^
You could pay for a signed picture of the athlete performing the desired task.
October 30th, 2019 at 7:54 AM ^
I like it - see how fast we can work around the rules!
October 30th, 2019 at 12:41 PM ^
Correct: otherwise the cheaters wouldn't be able to cheat anymore, and the last thing the NCAA wants to do is crack down on the cheating by rendering the whole paradigm moot.
October 30th, 2019 at 12:20 AM ^
2016 would have pissed you off. You would have been broke.
October 30th, 2019 at 7:53 AM ^
Broke and broken
October 30th, 2019 at 8:28 AM ^
Looks like we found Stephen Ross’s Mgo account.
October 29th, 2019 at 10:59 PM ^
I will wait to see NCAA guideline. I think that every real students should be allowed to represent the university, but they have to have a minimum of credit and register as a full time students (freshman not illegible) and maintain a minimum GPA and below a certain age say no more than 25.
October 30th, 2019 at 12:36 AM ^
Freshman illegibility is a big problem these days. Itsliketheyallruntogetherintoonebigblob.
October 30th, 2019 at 9:39 AM ^
So you have eliminated freshman and many grad students as 'real students'. In total you have probably dismissed 30%-40% of M's enrollment.
October 30th, 2019 at 11:47 AM ^
Screw the 25 age limit. My intramural team in the late 80s was pretty good. Just got to try and find an old picture. I am hoping for some quick cash!
October 29th, 2019 at 11:07 PM ^
Instead of throwing towels, I plan on showering our boys in quarters for every TD/sack/forced turnover, etc. That'll bring the 'croots in by the truckloads, I tell ya!
October 30th, 2019 at 8:22 AM ^
Quarters?
October 30th, 2019 at 7:48 PM ^
From where I sit, throwing dollar, dollar, dollar bills y'all won't get to the field. I can get a quarter down there, though.
October 29th, 2019 at 11:14 PM ^
That'd be hilarious if it were all laundered through MGoBlog. Stephen Ross, Larry Page, and everyone else just make donations to MGoBlog, which in turn puts all Michigan Football and Basketball Players on the site banner and pays each of them $500,000 per year for their likeness.
So simple!
October 30th, 2019 at 12:43 AM ^
Not when Pitbull finds out what that's worth.
October 29th, 2019 at 11:15 PM ^
How is buying someone a sandwich at Jimmy Johns compensating them for their name, image, or likeness? That's not even fairly compensating them for having to eat at Jimmy Johns.
October 29th, 2019 at 11:23 PM ^
That's why I think it might still not be allowed. It would be an illegal benefit unless I bought everyone in the restaurant a sandwich. I guess I'd have to pay them for a selfie maybe?
October 29th, 2019 at 11:35 PM ^
What's wrong with Jimmy John's? Don't you like mayonnaise?
October 29th, 2019 at 11:39 PM ^
All you have to do is say no mayo. They even will add mustard upon request.
October 30th, 2019 at 4:11 AM ^
Mayo should have to be requested on subs. Mustard comes standard.
No mayo on burgers either.
October 30th, 2019 at 12:41 AM ^
Right. The California law that's spurred all of this on -- and that the NCAA is hoping to be able to head off -- is meant to allow endorsements. Autograph signings / selfies / etc. would presumably be considered fair game as well.
Now, that's not to say that the loopholes won't be big enough to drive a truck through...
October 30th, 2019 at 11:31 AM ^
1) I missed the part where anyone said they expected the NCAA to be able to competently do anything about anything.
2 and 3) It would help us be more competitive in recruiting, yes. The Michigan fanbase has a lot of buying power relative to other schools, including Bama/LSU/Clemson. It wouldn't just have to be Ross although Ross contributing to the cause would be great. We already benefit from his investments. Gene Smith isn't pushing this along because he wants it. He's pushing it along because he has to, like the rest of the NCAA. He's trying to make it as restrictive as possible, but the genie is going to be out of the bottle.
4) It's not a Title IX issue, so the women (and the men's tennis team) will get what the market sets.
5) I have not seen anyone say anything about creating jobs for compliance, but okay. So anyway, if you're saying that our ticket prices will go up due to the added expense, that's too bad. Last I checked, the ticket prices always periodically go up.
6) "any of you who think this levels the field and makes the sport more competitive...you are a damn fool...save about ten programs," Bingo! We're one of the ten.
"NCAA football will collapse."
Okay.
"football as we know it is done."
Okay. I mean, we used to not have a forward pass.
"Small schools are in the red as it stands...now you want to add more financial strain? And the logic that companies will just pitch in...HAAAA..."
Again, didn't see anyone say FedEx was going to come fund the Marshall Athletic Department but I also don't care.
October 31st, 2019 at 12:25 AM ^
Oh man it's the battle of theses.
October 30th, 2019 at 6:21 AM ^
....but they do have pretty solid chips.
October 29th, 2019 at 11:16 PM ^
If Michigan fans formed a fund to go after the best players, I would contribute.
October 30th, 2019 at 10:11 AM ^
Let's make it a stop smoking campaign that uses the players as spokesmen. Register it as a 501c3 and I can direct some of my company's annual donation budget to it.
October 31st, 2019 at 1:10 PM ^
So, we could start a managed fund purchasing the NIL rights of particular recruits, pursuant to his signing with and attending Michigan, during which time the collective will be able to make deals with various corporate sponsors on his behalf at a set % of compensation to the player.
I like it.
October 29th, 2019 at 11:21 PM ^
I will be running a kickstarter to get top recruits to Michigan.
