Dinich: B1G response "coming early this afternoon"

Submitted by Communist Football on November 10th, 2023 at 7:46 AM

Via Twitter.

sources indicate a Big Ten response is coming early this afternoon. Michigan leaves at 1 and flies midafternoon out of Detroit after getting through security checks, per usual routine.

Agree - on the eve of the biggest game to date this season for us to boot.  I haven't seen anyone mention this, but given that the office of the conference holds so much power and influence, I have concerns about getting a fair shake on the field with the refs, maybe not so much tomorrow because this is evolving so quickly but at least for ref selection for The Game.  Maybe that's too much 2016 PTSD in me talking but the B1G does not give me the warm and fuzzies.

I have to think that UM has something in the barrel for such a situation.  No doubt they have a lot of info on the conferences officials - their tendencies, histories, how they adjudicate turmoil on the field, etc...  I'm not going to worry about this so much for PSU because I believe the shutout possibilities are real.  Michigan wins this game with 20 points, probably with 17.

There are always emergency judges designated per a Local Admin. Order for court closures and holidays. You're really only supposed to use them for things that can't wait and mostly on criminal matters. So let's say today, Michigan is expecting Big Ten to drop the hammer at 3. Federal court is technically closed, but the "on-call judge" will be there to field any emergencies. They may or may not be the judge assigned to hear the case, but they can still grant a TRO resolution of an injunction by the assigned judge on an emergency basis. I'm sure Michigan's attorneys have called the clerk and inquired about contingency plans.

Can someone help me understand this? I'm so confused. When I first saw the story about B1G schools asking the commish to punish Michigan, I assumed "sources" and that it wasn't true at all. It's seeming like it is. So is it really all 13 B1G ADs? I thought I heard coaches, but lately I've been hearing people say ADs. If it's all 13, there's no anonymity about this, right? Are any (or all) of them on record?

I doubt it is all 13.  Frankly, I think there are a lot of coaches and ADs in the conference who don’t really give a damn about this.

If I’m reading between the lines at public comments, my guess is Bert, Mork, Shiano and Walters are pushing hard, with Associate AD Urban Meyer making noise behind the scenes.

Check the background on the head of the PI firm they supposedly actually hired. Sort of randomly happens to have gone to the same high school as some other people we know.

Not their first NCAA job, supposedly. Apparently they get used a lot, or that's what I've read from some supposedly connected OSU folk. (Who don't mention the Manchester business of course.)

I should start taking notes; this is all getting too big for my tiny brain. I can't put my hands on the high school connection. But here's what I can find:

1. The firm, supposedly, is Beacon Investigative Solutions. Has an office in Portsmouth NH but is headquartered in Columbus, OH.

2. The President/CEO of Beacon is Mike Orchard, a grad of Cincinnati (after doing his first two years at what's now Utah Tech) and Indiana Law. I can't find anything now about where he's originally from (I'm sure I saw this but I don't know where) but I do see a report that he's apparently a linkedin friend of Christopher Day. According to his Orchard's linked in he "consulted on large-scale undercover drug investigations for the private sector."

Orchard is also listed as the chief investigator for the Portsmouth office.

I'm starting to wonder if the HS thing was bad info. But there's certainly a whiff of a connection.

Probably. If the optics that the conference is biased weren't already bad, suspending a coach while the team is getting on the plane would be incredible. Even the more anti Michigan media figures would struggle to be ok with that level of meddling in the competition.

Eh, I don’t really see it that way. Pettiti can easily back down. OSU and the other whiners grossly exaggerated the impact of the violations and plenty of new information has come out since Pettiti made his dumb comment about this being the worst scandal ever. All Pettiti needs to do is say, “I have reconsidered based on new information and now I ain’t doing shit to Michigan.” He wouldn’t lose face at all. But if he orders a suspension and it gets enjoined by a court, now that would be embarrassing.
