Devante Jones declares
Best of luck!
Good luck young man
Good luck Devante! You had a rough start to the basketball season but you proved all the early doubters wrong by the end of the season. Thanks for helping this team to another sweet 16!
I think most of us pointed out he wasn't playing well too start the season. Can't find anything wrong in that. The fact that he had a solid second half of the season didn't exactly prove anyone wrong.
This comment was extremely necessary.
What did he declare? Independence? War? A dance-off???
he didn't say it, he declared it
One of the best scenes from The Office ever!
Especially great when you realize that Creed Bratton shows his REAL passport with his REAL name, William Charles Schneider!
In all honesty, I don't think he's got the consistency to play in the NBA, but I wish him the best.
I'd worry about staying healthy! Hopefully, the injuries were an aberration...
The OP here is very inefficient. "Devante declares" or "DJDeclare" would have been enough.
Good luck Devante. We hardly knew ye, but couldn't have been a sweet anything without you this year.
Best of luck, Devante. You were a key member of a Sweet 16 team and nobody can ever take that away from you.
Not surprising. Wish him luck. Glad he made it to the tourney.
I am asking this honestly because I don't know the exact process. There are only two rounds in the NBA draft. There, in all honesty, is an almost 0% chance he gets drafted. But maybe he gets picked up somehow. But does declaring for the draft make you eligible for some sort of workouts or is it a formal declaration through paperwork that allows NBA teams to evaluate you?
Or is it just a way to say you're going pro
I don't know the particulars but he declared last year but didn't hire an agent so that allowed him to take part in the pre draft camps and evaluations, which is a benefit. In this case he's clearly not coming back and at age 24 it makes sense to declare because it lets him again try to attend these draft camps plus (I assume) start sending out feelers to overseas teams for spots.
honestly, he's better off not getting drafted, that way, he can contact a team where he has the best chance of making the team. if drafted in the second round, you are stuck with that team, can get cut at the last minute, and no contract guarantee. at least, i think that is still how it works.

A contract is better than no contract, and a team spending a 2nd isn't a ton but it's more job security than an UDFA has, and makes it more likely to be noticed by someone else if they are cut. I'd disagree that it's better.
Yeah pretty much, he's really just saying he's foregoing his remaining college eligibility to be considered for an NBA team in any respect. He earned it, good for him.
Thanks to his effort and hard work, Michigan was able to replicate another season of very strong transfer-PG-play. Good luck to the young man, and I hope he gets to hear his name called on draft night.
Would not have beat osu in Columbus without the game he had. Would not have made the big dance without that game. Yes, he was bad at the beginning of the year but he certainly was better at the end. If he can make the NBA, awesome for him. Good luck young man and thanks for this year
I don't blame him. He wanted to play in the tournament. He got to play. Now go get paid, kid.
"One thing recent seasons have taught me… Michigan fans are really bad at identifying good point guard play. Feel like UM is on a real streak of under appreciated lead guards."
Dylan, UM Hoops
DeVante succeeded in flushing a lot of ignorant basketball watchers, anyway.
Need better than Devante to win the B1G and compete for a NC. Good luck to him on his future.

There are many reasons this team didn't live up to their billing. Davante isn't one of them.
He did struggle to adjust early in the year but with his late season form he was not the one holding the team back.
I think we've just been spoiled by the likes of Burke and Walton who were true stars that took games over. Simpson was very good but limited offensively, which in turn limited the team's ceiling offensively. Smith and Jones were solid but not stars.
I think we know good PG play when we see it . . . . but we tend to get stuck in the BPONE when we see a guy struggling, and forget that players often improve with time.
Disagree with the reason for that assessment. In fact, with Mike Smith, Simpson, Walton, Burke, etc Michigan fans know EXACTLY what good pg play is. We have high standards but high standards have taken us so close to national titles in recent years.
This team, despite overachieving in the tourney, had no chance to win it all. Did you watch the others games in the sweet 16? THIS YEAR, we weren't really close. One of the big reasons why was the lack of a floor general running the show like in years past.
Appreciate how hard he played but to say he played well this year on the whole, is insane, given the standards we've seen set in the past ten years
I think our shoddy team D and iffy shooting had more to do with it than the point guard.
It didn’t help. Jones was objectively average at best. High effort guy that fans should appreciate, but he’s a minus defender, minus shooter, minus passer, has terrible court vision and was an average ball handler. You just cannot survive off having guard play like that. Sure I’ll get negged, but anyone who watched this team knows this is true. I’m a fan of every player, but I also don’t have to pretend that someone is good just because they play for my favorite team.
lol what? Dude had like a 30 assist rate and really cut down the turnovers as he got more comfortable in the offense. He wasn't a great shooter and didn't have the quickness or athleticism to guard some of the more talented guards in the conference but to say he was a minus passer, had terrible court vision and was an average ball handler is ridiculous.
His assist % is 8th in the BIG as a starting PG, so bottom half. His 3pt % is 46th in the BIG. His PER is 62nd. His offensive rating is 49th, defensive rating 51st. These are just his BIG numbers from a list of players who qualified. There is really no debate to be had, he is overall a minus player.

Exactly! Also he was a revolving door on defense. Listen there is no doubt he improved but I stand by my statement above. We need better than Jones at PG to reach the goals we’ve been accustomed
We literally advanced without him for goodness sake.
He shot 34% from 3 and 79% from FT. That's not a minus shooter.
Frankie says, "relax!"
"Right," said Fred.
Thank you for your contribution and sacrifice for Michigan basketball. It was a tough year of challenge and achievement, and your effort was highly appreciated. Time and again you represented your team with courage, fighting through pain and shorthanded situations to make a difference. We can only wish you the best as your career moves forward. Good luck and thanks.
Thank you, Mr. Jones.
Mr. Jones and me....
Good luck DJ. Thank you for helping Michigan get to sweet 16. Will always have OSU game as a good memory.
I myself will never forget DJ personally dismantling Ohio State, with our star player injured, to earn the team an NCAA tourney bid.
Best of luck Devante !!
Good luck Devante!!!👍🏀
Dude would be 24 next season and spent most of this season injured.
It would be silly of him to not go to the draft now and see what happens.
I wouldnt think he gets drafted and gets an NBA spot, but get the ball rolling on a G-League or Euro career while he can

I didn't know he played most of the season injured.
