To be fair, Lynn and Glenn have both worked with Campbell in the past.  Lynn with the Cowboys while DC was a player, and Glenn more recently with the Saints.  I like both hires though.  A LOT more than Patricia hiring that former UConn coach as his DC.  That was terrible.  Never liked that hire.  Bevell wasn't exactly an inspiring hire either.

Just once I would love to see the Lions take advantage of a situation and fleece another team for their draft picks.  If there was ever a time that would happen, this has to be it. There have to be 6-8 teams that would love to have Stafford, this seems to ripe for a bidding war.

The bigger question is, is there a franchise- QB worth drafting early (IE 7th or later, not Lawrence or Fields because they won't be there)? Might be best to sign a qb, draft other pieces and tank another year to get a 1-3 draft slot the next year.

If Stafford is as good as everyone say he is I hope we can get at least two first round picks for him.  Knowing the Lions we will get a lot less but lets hope for the best.

Three-team deal with SF and Houston:

- SF gets Stafford

- Detroit gets Watson

- Houston gets Detroit’s #7 pick, SF’s #12 pick, Jimmy G, and as many future picks from Detroit and SF needed to make it work.

I am very happy about this.  For all Stafford is done, I don't think he was ever going to get the Lions to the promise land even if all of the organization issues were solved.

The Lions seem to be trying to start with a new identity and washing away all of the past so I think parting ways with Stafford is apart of that message.   Just hope they can get at least a 1st Round Pick.  Maybe we could trade Stafford and our 2nd round pick to get the Dolphins number 3 pick since rumor has it, Dolphins aren't enamored with Tua.

I think Stafford is a very good QB,that was caught up in the "Lions mess" .I hope he goes to a team a wins a ton of games and id love to see him win a Super Bowl ,he sure wasnt winning one here.

Id love to see him in Denver with those weapons

Finally! Wanted ole lefty sidearm interception machine gone a long time ago! Now trade straight up for the 9th or 12th pick and get a young RPO QB!

You realize Matt Stafford INT to Pass attempts is the 4th best rating in NFL history  (2.3%) .

Joe Montana 164 career starts  139 INT     5133 attempts

Matt Stafford 165 career starts   144 INT   6224 attempts

Montana is the better QB but people dont really understand football, when they start with "Stafford is an INT machine"   hes actually one of the top 4 ALL TIME for NOT throwing INTS

Absolutely the right move for the franchise, as much as it sucks. With all that Matthew and Kelly have done for the city, I was hoping he would have had some nice success here and retired as one of the best Lions ever. Whoever likened him to Verlander is right on. I hope the right trade comes along so that he can go to a winner AND I hope our new GM does well with the pick(s).

Best of luck, Matthew, thanks for giving it your all and then some.

Why is it the right move to get rid of the best Lions QB ever with stats ranking amongst the all time greats?  Everyone is on board with getting rid of the guy.  The prevailing attitude in this thread makes no sense to me.  Let's get the guy out of here so we can start over with someone that will probably be not as good?  He's only 32 years old and still in his prime years.  OK, let's trade him away because the Lions are forever cursed and anyone who earns a multi-million dollar yearly salary with the Lions is assuredly just slogging through the hell of all hells waiting on pins and needles for a trade to other franchises that seem to have all their shit together.

Weird.

It just seemed inevitable.

And announcing it now can be a good thing. Let the bidding wars begin!

49ers already talking, and others soon to join. He won't be sold cheap as many are worried about.

Another positive for the acquiring team is they only have to pay him 23M and 20M the next 2 years. That is a steal!

We should get good return if Holmes is worth his salt.

Perhaps one of the most under appreciated player for the Lions. I will miss him, but I’m sure plenty are happy to see him go. Makes sense for the future of the franchise to get value and build for the future, so I’m on board, but still sad to see him leave. Watch him go to SF and go to the SB.

Stafford is the best QB the lions have had in decades.

also, the Lions suck at everything.  Stafford, like Barry and Megatron, should go somewhere and win a SuperBowl
