[Dellenger] NCAA says Ohio State's Ryan Day has no known ties to Michigan sign-stealing probe

The NCAA notified the Big Ten on Monday that there are no known connections between Ohio State head coach Ryan Day or his family and the conference's investigation into Michigan, senior officials at both the association and conference.

Glad there was enough public pressure to force the NCAA to report on this aspect. Still very curious where this PI firm hire originated.

I doubt it is Sparty but how lucky is Sparty that Signgate popped up out of nowhere?

Instead of having people give them grief over Tuck and their horrible season, they're dodging all that and get to pile on Michigan all day long. Once again big bro (not intentionally) is providing cover for the dumb shit little bro.

There was that theory/rumor a few days back that the PI firm was investigating something else entirely, and stumbled upon the Stalions's scheme. Mostly because apparently Michigan knows exactly which PI firm is it, and are familiar with them.

IIRC, "TattooGate" was a result of a larger investigation by the DEA/FBI into a drug dealer, and an independent contractor in the investigation stumbled upon the emails about exchanging memorabilia and forwarded the emails to other people.  Memory is a bit fuzzy, but I remember being very amused by that detail.

I guess. But the Astros were actively using technology and communicating the intel obtained during the game from a camera in the stands. It's not illegal in baseball to review/scout prior games and steal the signs from those. It's also not illegal to steal signs during a game in baseball, it just matters how you do it. A baserunner can steal signs and signal to the batter the pitch.

My point is, if this were professional baseball (or any other professional sport), this action is legal, and therefor its unlikely that someone would have recognized it as illegal unless they already knew the rule for some reason, or were actively looking for Michigan NCAA violations.

Initially law enforcement DID contact OSU about all the memorabilia at at the tat shop, that's when the story first broke. Everybody seems to get a couple things confused about the "Tatgate" story though. It wasn't the players getting tats that got got OSU sanctioned and cost Tressel his job.  The story broke after the end of the 2010 season. OSU self reported it, and the NCAA issued the 5 game suspensions to the players involved. The players received the same suspensions that players at other schools got from similar violations ( see Todd Gurley at Georgia)

The following Spring, the emails were discovered that showed Tressel had been warned in the summer of 2010 by Columbus attorney Chris Cicero about what the players did. Tressel sat on it and did nothing. He then lied to the NCAA on the routine compliance paperwork saying he had no knowledge of any violations or eligibility issues. Once that came to light, the NCAA opened a new investigation, Tressel was gone and the sanctions were handed down after the 2011 season, after Meyer had already been hired.

I mean, nobody expected Day to be dumb enough to hire his family's firm but it's still funny that Day thought it smart to pick one of the few PI firms in the same small state his brother works as a PI in.

Also why would it start from that? Imagine you're the FBI or the police and you come across a staffer's computer drive that had film of opponent sidelines. How would you know this is against NCAA rules? Nobody outside of college coaches and the NCAA itself had ever heard of this before. They would see this and say, "normal coaching material", most likely.

Alternatively, if this was somehow related to Weiss (which I think we can definitely say it is not) why not approach Stallions with some plea deal to get him to provide information for you?

They're almost certainly separate issues.

And the CONFERENCE’s investigation. I.e. the Day PI firm did the dirty work and  leaked everything and now the conference is doing their own independent investigation.

OK, I'm a little confused here. There are no known connections between the Days and the conference's investigation?

I wasn't aware the conference had carried out any part of this investigation. Somebody's dropping documents to ESPN and the WaPo etc., and somebody's dropping documents at the NCAA. The conference hasn't done squat except read the NCAA's reports as far as I know.

And I'd think if there really was such a thing as the conference's investigation they'd know who was involved and wouldn't need the NCAA to tell them.

The NCAA lacks the authority, prowess, and will to investigate anything. Every NCAA "investigation" has merely been a review of investigations conducted by journalists, law enforcement, or shady PI firms with ties to Ryan Day.

Why would the ncaa comment on this? If this doesn’t involve Ryan day at all?? Hmmmmm…. More false reporting??? I think the ncaa is looking 😂😂😂😂… anyways enjoy the ride and buckle up cause a storm is coming.

Has anyone heard anything about an investigation being opened into the video that was shot from the Ohio State sideline of Connor Stallions talking to Jesse Minter? I feel like that video shows a direct violation of Rule 1-11 ("Prohibited Field Equipment") which Seth had noted is the rule Michigan is incorrectly being accused of breaking.

So the NCAA’s “investigation” into OSU having a connection didn’t amount to any proof. No worries, because Michigan could hire its own PI firm to really investigate the matter. And then leak it all themselves, and at their own pace

But . . . but . . . but . . . we are suspicious of Day.  It does not matter that the NCAA said there is no known connection.  This is too important to take any chances.  The very soul of the game is at stake.  He needs to be suspended indefinitely RIGHT NOW!!

Am I doing it right?
