Maybe we keep JJ?
December 18th, 2023 at 11:56 PM ^
The offense scored 45 points against TCU. It was turnovers that lost that game.
December 18th, 2023 at 8:41 PM ^
Because he's 38 and 3 since he decided to run this offense so either take this or you can go back to 8 and 4 with 7 straight losses to OSU.
December 18th, 2023 at 9:11 PM ^
I'm not saying it can't win games...obviously it can!
You just answered your own question.
December 18th, 2023 at 10:32 PM ^
Your Heisman winner was exciting. He is done playing college ball.
December 18th, 2023 at 11:54 PM ^
An offense that has been in the SP+ top 10 all year doesn't impress you? You aren't going to get flashy numbers on the back end of the season when you face the SP+ #4, #3, and #1 defenses in 3 of your last 4 games. The 2021 offense finished #19, the 2022 offense finished at #15, and the 2023 offense currently sits right at #10 after sliding from #5 prior to the PSU game. Season-to-season we've marked improvements. Heck, the 2016 team was #35 (!!!).
December 19th, 2023 at 1:52 AM ^
Maybe we should adopt a 'speed in space' offence?
December 19th, 2023 at 2:04 AM ^
Maybe! Sounds promising LOL
December 19th, 2023 at 8:20 AM ^
“Why can’t we be more like programs that aren’t as successful as us????”
December 18th, 2023 at 8:35 PM ^
*whispererer
December 18th, 2023 at 9:10 PM ^
Despite Harbaugh being the “QB whisperer”, Michigan hasn’t had a qb drafted since Rudock.
Shea Patterson was drafted number one overall. [In the USFL...]
December 18th, 2023 at 8:23 PM ^
It’s fine, it’s his prerogative. Just don’t pretend that your disastrous season at UCLA was some enlightening experience when you went into the portal looking for the exact same thing you were looking for during your high school recruitment. He’s a mercenary, which again is fine but it’s not what Michigans culture was built off of.
December 18th, 2023 at 8:48 PM ^
Playing in a phone booth and barely throwing the ball doesn’t really resemble anything the NFL runs either.
December 18th, 2023 at 8:59 PM ^
How can a QB show he can throw the deep ball..when you never do? Most teams in the NFL (sucessfull ones) run some fairly open offenses
But,JJ is mocked in mid 1st so who the hell knows
December 18th, 2023 at 9:13 PM ^
At the combine lol. And JJ doesn't have to throw 50 bombs a season to prove he can do it.
December 18th, 2023 at 9:15 PM ^
Combine?? That doesnt show shit. Need to show can do it in game situation against a defense
December 19th, 2023 at 9:00 AM ^
Bingo.
The most run heavy offenses in the NFL... throw the ball more than 50% of the time.
December 18th, 2023 at 9:17 PM ^
Uhh if I am a QB Oregon's offense is fun as hell, I get to throw the ball 30ish times a game, and Nix is going to to get drafted. He is not going to Indiana.
He can take the bag and have a fun as hell offense and be developed. If I am a RB or OL or TE I am coming to Michigan. I am not as a QB or WR.
December 18th, 2023 at 9:19 PM ^
I mean I’m not going to sit here and pretend like I know all the ins and outs, but Mariota won the Heisman, was a high draft pick, and has had an ok NFL career. Nothing great, but nearly a decade in the league. More recently, Herbert has been a pretty good QB in the NFL. Who knows about Nix, but he’ll still be drafted. Honestly, who was the last Michigan QB to get drafted other than Rudock? The notion that he’s not “running an NFL offense” seems a little bit of sour grapes, it’s not me it’s you. Oklahoma’s offense didn’t resemble an NFL offense and Hurts is doing fine and Mayfield was always a little overrated and small but he’s ok himself.
December 18th, 2023 at 8:01 PM ^
I mean, outside of JJ I’m not sure I’d say Michigan is a place for QBs to develop either. JJ is the first decent QB we’ll be sending to the draft since…god I don’t even know how long. And no, Ruddock doesn’t count.
December 18th, 2023 at 8:09 PM ^
Probably Chad Henne???
December 18th, 2023 at 8:10 PM ^
That’s what I was thinking.
December 18th, 2023 at 8:22 PM ^
That had more to do with the conference he played in than any sort of development. Bo Nix is the same guy he was at Auburn minus the SEC defense.
December 19th, 2023 at 8:28 AM ^
Oregon has a better QB development than us recently. Mariota, Herbert, Nix.
December 18th, 2023 at 8:07 PM ^
Developed Nix about as much as you possibly can. Nix was half a joke when he left Auburn. It's why you can't count out a talented player when it didn't work out elsewhere, you never known why it didn't work.
I'd bet Dante has s solid career. He's still a very gifted QB and sometimes it just doesn't work out at certain places for one reason or another.
December 18th, 2023 at 8:29 PM ^
Whos got the better track record of putting QBs in the NFL right now? Its not even a question. Sucks to not get Moore but lets not be silly about it
December 18th, 2023 at 9:11 PM ^
Caring about development is just as stupid as saying they care about academics anymore. It’s all about the money
December 18th, 2023 at 9:31 PM ^
Oregon put Herbert into the league and he’s been pretty good. Team around him, not so much.
also, is UCLA football really know as a bag school? Like, if they are, they’re doing a really bad job of it.
December 18th, 2023 at 9:42 PM ^
I would guess they bagged Moore since he flipped to them though I am sure Nix being at Oregon heavily influenced that and he wanted to play right away
December 18th, 2023 at 11:42 PM ^
UCLA is NOT a bag school. Its funding is terrible. He went for playing time, not money. Otherwise he would have stuck with Oregon in the first place. It has much more money.
December 19th, 2023 at 7:57 AM ^
If JJ throws for 300 yards in the Rose Bowl this can start to change perceptions on the offense for the future
December 19th, 2023 at 12:39 PM ^
Why not both?
December 18th, 2023 at 7:54 PM ^
Family still wanted the bag. 🤷♂️
December 18th, 2023 at 8:10 PM ^
Why do we continue as a fan base to act as if the bag is a negative? It's embarrassing. NIL is here to stay so we need to embrace it. We are winning right now because of Jim Harbaugh not because we are taking some high moral ground by not paying our players.
December 18th, 2023 at 8:32 PM ^
Well the schools who prominently feature the bag have so far imploded spectacularly. Someone will probably figure it out eventually (and I wouldn't be surprised if it's Oregon that does it). But currently the bag does seem to be a negative.
December 18th, 2023 at 8:55 PM ^
Oregon, Georgia, Alabama, Texas etc. are doing fine.
December 19th, 2023 at 12:17 AM ^
You missed the prominently feature the bag bit. Sure those schools use the bag but it's not necessarily the only reason they're getting recruits like Texas A&M in the past and Miami this year. Oregon is the one who really uses the bag and seems to have built a decent team (in spite of it?).
December 19th, 2023 at 1:18 AM ^
I feel like they all really use the bag. Is that really a bad thing? Arch Manning isn't going to Texas for a scholarship. Texas A&M and Miami had bad coaches and the wrong 5 stars. It doesn't mean that the approach is wrong.
December 18th, 2023 at 7:55 PM ^
Welp, on to the next one
December 18th, 2023 at 7:58 PM ^
I might be wrong but I never had the feeling this is what they were looking for in the portal. I assumed a more proven qb is/what they are looking for.
December 19th, 2023 at 2:21 AM ^
Yeah, if we hadn't recruited him so hard the first time around, I doubt we would have even bothered this time.
December 18th, 2023 at 8:00 PM ^
Oregon can pitch they produced Heisman finalist QB Bo Nix.
December 19th, 2023 at 9:11 AM ^
Drafted QB's since 2000:
Oregon:
Joey Harrington - 1st round
Kellen Clemens
Dennis Dixon
Marcus Mariota - 1st round
Justin Herbert - 1st round
Michigan:
John Navarre
Chad Henne
Jake Rudock
December 18th, 2023 at 8:00 PM ^
This to me means one of two things. The chances are higher that JJ comes back or Dante doesn’t want to wait until January to make a decision. Me thinks it is the latter.
December 18th, 2023 at 8:06 PM ^
I apologize wholeheartedly for the pettiness, but this guy can truly go fuck himself.
December 18th, 2023 at 8:10 PM ^
Anyone really surprised? He may develop into a great player but he is bag chasing if you ask me and nothing is wrong with that. He was never going to come here and start right off the bat.
I'm happy with Jaydn and any other combination of Orji, Denegal, Warren, or JJ.
December 18th, 2023 at 8:11 PM ^
Jadyn Davis is going to be an outstanding college quarterback. Maybe not NFL because of his size, but I think he's going to be a great college QB. High completion percentage, great IQ, true leader who loves Michigan. I think we'll have JJ for one more year because he wants to be a high first-round pick instead of a low first-round pick, and then Davis gets the keys. And I love that plan.
December 18th, 2023 at 9:20 PM ^
Yeah but will be a true freshman next year. So is useless to us in 23 - Moore got killed as does almost every true freshman in the country.
We need a bridge QB in 24 before all the unicorns and butterflies flow out of Davis' ass as a true sophomore . JJ was not amazing in his 2nd year and is on a NFL path that Davis is not on.
We are handing a 3x in a row playoff team to guys who would be 3rd string in the top 4 programs in the SEC.... and hell at this point Oregon. This is not how the top programs are run. Oregon got a top 2 of the top 5 portal QBs to replace Bo Nix
We got zilch.
