Nice. Staffing is shaping up to be an exciting group that can continue the success and potentially improve on recruiting. Can't wait for the next era in Michigan Football.

It seems like Sherrone is getting the staff he wanted. Whether it's because of or despite Warde is anyone's guess.

He saved money on offense by promoting the guys he worked closely with, He's spending it on defense. None of those newly hired assistants will come cheaply. Prying away valued assistants from Wisconsin, Tennessee and the NFL counts as a clear win in my eyes.

The early handwringing over the recruiting inadequacies of Martindale has also been addressed. Rather than promoting Clink to a first-time coordinator role, Moore has opted for an NFL coordinator with experience in the Ravens system and paired him with young, rising coaches at every level of the defense.

Time will tell if this was a wise choice--there will certainly be some growing pains compared to the continuity last year's team enjoyed--but on paper it makes a lot of sense.

Is anyone else excited to see how this new defensive staff gels? I was less than optimistic just a week ago, but the department ponied up and pay top dollar for people known to Sherrone / close to the Harbaugh's family coaching tree. I read that as showing them the respect they deserve and having a higher likelihood to stick around for the culture. I imagine the players are also thrilled, and I have to admit that matters most.

The optimism should not have waned.  These hirings could not have gone better...and note, that nobody transferred.   And think about this... Moore got the Texans safeties coach, to take the DB job here, and many would say that is a demotion in career or a lateral move at best, considering how the NFL life is now far better.   Perhaps Ryans was gonna let him go, but one would think he would stay in NFL.  So kudos to Moore.

After the whole fiasco with Clinkscale last week, I'm waiting until BJM actually shows up on campus before I put any stock in this.

Not blaming the insiders at all. Clink said he was coming back. Everyone reported it. It was true at the time it was reported. But given how absolutely fluid all of this is, its hard to 100% believe it until they actually show up.

I wondered about this....  like what happened with Enos.   I guess these coaches want certain jobs and have to wait until they open up, so they agree to their plan B with option of taking plan A, and that they don't sign a restrictive buyout for that reason.  Maybe somebody who knows about these things, can better explain here.

I think job one once all of the defensive coaches are actually hired is to go back to “school”, so to speak, in learning the “ravens” defense from the architect of it, along with noting the variations and play calls based on offensive alignment and personnel groupings from the last three years of Michigan’s defense. Do that prior to spring ball starting and get the jump on the whole continuity thing with the defense.

This isn't all about a money battle. I think we are seeing the charisma of Sherrone as well. Great trait to have in a head coach. I'm going to be interested if Sherrone can move these coaches along professionally or managerially next year if needed.

People like Sherrone.
