Coach Hello: LB Coach Brian Jean-Mary (via Webb)
The poster below asked, and Coach Jean-Mary immediately delivered:

If that's the coaching staff, the average age is 38.6, which is bonkers

Since we can't seem to embed anymore?

Don't think posters have ever been in the habit of embedding/formatting.
I once wrote a tutorial post on how to embed and link URLs, and people got nasty.

I would like a link to this post so I can bookmark it.

I'd also like a link to that post, so I can write a nasty comment on it.

Welcome back BJM. Things have changed quite a bit since you were last here.
February 15th, 2024 at 12:33 PM ^
Well, the names have all changed since you hung around, but those dreams have remained and they've turned around. Who'd have thought they'd lead to, back here where we need you?

Nice. Staffing is shaping up to be an exciting group that can continue the success and potentially improve on recruiting. Can't wait for the next era in Michigan Football.
February 15th, 2024 at 10:44 AM ^
They do sound promising. But I would have been perfectly happy to stay in the old era of Michigan football.
February 15th, 2024 at 10:49 AM ^
The “old era”.. as in the past three seasons? If so, I agree. Change is inevitable - and, I’ll be cheering them all on.
February 15th, 2024 at 10:39 AM ^
Oh let’s absolutely go
February 15th, 2024 at 10:48 AM ^
It seems like Sherrone is getting the staff he wanted. Whether it's because of or despite Warde is anyone's guess.
He saved money on offense by promoting the guys he worked closely with, He's spending it on defense. None of those newly hired assistants will come cheaply. Prying away valued assistants from Wisconsin, Tennessee and the NFL counts as a clear win in my eyes.
February 15th, 2024 at 11:14 AM ^
I think we have to give Warde credit for this staff. They won bidding wars with Tennesee, Wisconsin, and the Houston Texans to bring these guys in.
February 15th, 2024 at 11:19 AM ^
Makes sense on offense as we don’t really use a system that others use on that side of the ball.
February 15th, 2024 at 1:00 PM ^
The early handwringing over the recruiting inadequacies of Martindale has also been addressed. Rather than promoting Clink to a first-time coordinator role, Moore has opted for an NFL coordinator with experience in the Ravens system and paired him with young, rising coaches at every level of the defense.
Time will tell if this was a wise choice--there will certainly be some growing pains compared to the continuity last year's team enjoyed--but on paper it makes a lot of sense.

Did Tennessee have good linebackers? I don’t think of the Vols as a defensive juggernaut.
February 15th, 2024 at 10:54 AM ^
From what I saw the last couple years, they looked decent-to-good. The DL was excellent and the secondary was an abomination.
February 15th, 2024 at 11:43 AM ^
FWIW, Tennessee fans were really hoping to keep Jean-Mary. That's a good sign.
February 15th, 2024 at 1:21 PM ^
Fans can be dumb though!

Is anyone else excited to see how this new defensive staff gels? I was less than optimistic just a week ago, but the department ponied up and pay top dollar for people known to Sherrone / close to the Harbaugh's family coaching tree. I read that as showing them the respect they deserve and having a higher likelihood to stick around for the culture. I imagine the players are also thrilled, and I have to admit that matters most.

The optimism should not have waned. These hirings could not have gone better...and note, that nobody transferred. And think about this... Moore got the Texans safeties coach, to take the DB job here, and many would say that is a demotion in career or a lateral move at best, considering how the NFL life is now far better. Perhaps Ryans was gonna let him go, but one would think he would stay in NFL. So kudos to Moore.

I dont want to concentrate on Petiti's teeny winnie
February 15th, 2024 at 11:44 AM ^
Fair point. Would you be willing to send him a hooker with a hidden camera in her purse?
(or his purse, not judging, here....)
February 15th, 2024 at 11:31 AM ^
I would stay away from him. He probably already has it.
February 15th, 2024 at 11:11 AM ^
rumored sticking point was Moore wanted him to go to Basketball games with him

After the whole fiasco with Clinkscale last week, I'm waiting until BJM actually shows up on campus before I put any stock in this.
Not blaming the insiders at all. Clink said he was coming back. Everyone reported it. It was true at the time it was reported. But given how absolutely fluid all of this is, its hard to 100% believe it until they actually show up.
February 15th, 2024 at 11:38 AM ^
Even when they show up, they can be gone in a second. Just like we can be gone in a second. This is why I put little stock in anything of this world. It’s all fleeting.

I wondered about this.... like what happened with Enos. I guess these coaches want certain jobs and have to wait until they open up, so they agree to their plan B with option of taking plan A, and that they don't sign a restrictive buyout for that reason. Maybe somebody who knows about these things, can better explain here.

The 10 minutes Enos spent on staff turned out to be absolutely critical to Michigan. He recommended Jim hire Sherrone Moore. We should send him a gift basket.
February 15th, 2024 at 12:02 PM ^
I think job one once all of the defensive coaches are actually hired is to go back to “school”, so to speak, in learning the “ravens” defense from the architect of it, along with noting the variations and play calls based on offensive alignment and personnel groupings from the last three years of Michigan’s defense. Do that prior to spring ball starting and get the jump on the whole continuity thing with the defense.
February 15th, 2024 at 12:05 PM ^
This isn't all about a money battle. I think we are seeing the charisma of Sherrone as well. Great trait to have in a head coach. I'm going to be interested if Sherrone can move these coaches along professionally or managerially next year if needed.
People like Sherrone.

Run Game Coordinator? Does that mean anything for Hart?
February 15th, 2024 at 12:59 PM ^
Defensive run game coordinator. No impact on Mike Hart.
February 15th, 2024 at 6:11 PM ^
Duh. I should know this. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
thx

Solid.
