Up close video of handshake line w audio

Howard says “I’ll remember that shit” then Gard says something to which he retorts “Don’t fucking touch me” then we know the rest…
Idk what to think here.

I don't get why this, of all things, is apparently what set Juwan off, as opposed to Brad Davison again throwing elbows.
Gard's program is vile in many ways but that timeout itself seemed like a nothingburger.
February 20th, 2022 at 9:43 PM ^
"How dare you come up to me to shake hands or talk, the audacity to even grab at my elbow to get my attention so we can discuss. I guess it's time for fisticuffs."
February 20th, 2022 at 10:03 PM ^
Yes because he immediately threw it after that, not you know after he saw an assistant getting physical with his players.
February 20th, 2022 at 11:12 PM ^
Because Juwan can't act professional? All signs go back to Juwan, we can play this game all day. Dude needs to get his emotions / temper under control during and after games.
February 20th, 2022 at 11:59 PM ^
Give it up, the sequence of events are clearly not understood by you. What are Wisconsin’s assistant coach and players responsibility? They took unreasonable action after the Gard/Howard deal was over.
February 20th, 2022 at 9:10 PM ^
Howard and Michigan will take the L on this one. But, this is typical Wisconsin. They're dirty as hell, but never get the thug label. I wonder why. How many qb's have they knocked out? How many dirty plays do they get away with across the board?
Then they want to play victim when they poke the bear. I'm behind Juwan on this one.
Warde is soft and already bending over for Wisconsin. It's almost as embarrassing as Hoke and the dagger at msu.
February 20th, 2022 at 9:45 PM ^
Umm, as they should take the L.
February 20th, 2022 at 10:13 PM ^
No.. It's as embarrassing as leaving Shane Morris in with a clear concussion and claiming you had no idea
February 20th, 2022 at 10:48 PM ^
They get it honestly from the fucktard himself.
February 20th, 2022 at 10:55 PM ^
why the FUCK are our acting pres and athletic department issuing erroneous apologies, less than 12 hours after the incident with no official review on the books? With absolutely nothing coming from the other side except wisconsins form of ridiculous righteous indignation. WTF people??
February 20th, 2022 at 11:03 PM ^
I wish Brad Davison was playing QB instead of Jack Coan when Dax Hill came on that Nickel blitz.
February 20th, 2022 at 9:16 PM ^
Man, Davison just wants to sing Varsity.
February 20th, 2022 at 9:26 PM ^
He was acting all hard after they were off the court but he definitely didn’t want to be in the middle… typical.
February 20th, 2022 at 11:41 PM ^
Thought the same thing about Gard. Once he seen Howard wasn't having it ....he bailed like that Homer Simpson meme in the bushes and only reemerged after Howard was corralled and about to be ushered out.
February 20th, 2022 at 9:16 PM ^
What appears clear from the video is that Jaron Faulds calmly steps in between the two coaches to diffuse the situation at which point it would have been over except Krabbenhoft and some Wisconsin dude in a black shirt try to force their way between Faulds and Twill following which the altercation occurs. Then the Wisconsin players all force their way into the situation.
Not excusing Howard but I would never want to get in a handshake line with these people. Faulds deserves kudos for his support of his coach and his sportsmanship.
February 20th, 2022 at 9:26 PM ^
Also, as Ant Wright points out, Juwan was hanging back until that Wisconsin assistant started pushing his players. Doesn't justify Howard's response, but it shows there's blame on both sides. Why was that coach and the staff member who had William's wrist even pressing forward towards Howard? Faulds had already separated Juwan from Gard, and then those guys and some Wisconsin players just start pressing forward towards Juwan. It's bad all around.
Video of Williams and Faulds being pushed before Howard snapped: here
February 20th, 2022 at 9:39 PM ^
Keep in mind Faulds is a big dude so to stumble back a little that was a forceful shove. Given the context, it doesn't make it ok, but can understand somewhat Howard impulsive losing his shit when sees a coach getting physical with his players.
February 20th, 2022 at 9:39 PM ^
It's the first time I saw this video. I hadn't seen Krabbenhoft push Faulds and TWill like that in the other videos. If the other coach is pushing our players around while they are trying to diffuse the situation then that may be enough to justify Howard's response. I think he was trying to push them out of the way to start something with Howard.
Time to end the handshake line with teams like this.
February 20th, 2022 at 9:49 PM ^
Thank you for posting this. Definitely shows some context. This is why we wait and gather facts before rushing to judgement.
February 20th, 2022 at 9:51 PM ^
Agree but Juwan was ready to risk it all even before the punch.
February 20th, 2022 at 10:05 PM ^
Not saying Coach didn't amp things up prior to this and shouldn't deserve blame (or punishment), but it's a different animal when a coach sees an opposing coach manhandling his players.
I'm just saying gather all the facts THEN make decisions. That video could very well save his job.
February 20th, 2022 at 9:58 PM ^
That's good video. The Wis. asst clearly should be suspended too.
February 20th, 2022 at 10:11 PM ^
I would not call that a push. There is no excuse for what our head coach did out there. I don't know what is going on with him, but he snaps way to easily. Ward needs to drug test if he keeps him because something isn't right there.
February 20th, 2022 at 10:17 PM ^
Drug test? That sounds racist AF.
February 20th, 2022 at 10:39 PM ^
I don’t think it did. Just read it again. Nope.
February 20th, 2022 at 10:22 PM ^
Do you not see Fauld stumble back a little bit in response. Now you do the math, a college assistant who is a smaller man putting his hands on a college Center. Tell me how he actually manages to stumble back if he didn't shove him?
February 20th, 2022 at 10:24 PM ^
This explains everything. I heard "timeout induced rage" is one of the telltale signs of meth addiction.
February 20th, 2022 at 10:31 PM ^
You should be banned for the drug test BS. That’s fucked up. Juwan shouldn’t have handled it the way he did but your insinuation is crap. I bet the kids are glad their coac didn’t stand for another coach pushing them.
February 20th, 2022 at 11:06 PM ^
Feelings are running hot, but just some sarcasm there. Just read the comments with a "Great White North" Canadian accent and it goes down easier.
EDIT: didn't see the above comment that you were referring too. Yea, that's fucked up.
February 20th, 2022 at 11:38 PM ^
Congratulations on posting the worst take we've seen so far on this situation.
February 20th, 2022 at 11:42 PM ^
You should be banned.
February 20th, 2022 at 9:27 PM ^
Yeah, actually now I really don’t care that Howard smacked that tool and kind of want to see them in the BTT.
February 20th, 2022 at 9:59 PM ^
He waa completely provoked, doesn't excuse hitting the coach, but it's the closest it can get.
February 20th, 2022 at 10:06 PM ^
The idea of the handshake line is to force these athletes and coaches to swallow whatever anger, resentments, etc. they are feeling and to face the opponent in a non-antagonistic posture and SHAKE THE DAMN HAND. It's why we do this. It has worked for a long time exactly the way it should. JH's behavior was embarrassingly adolescent.
February 20th, 2022 at 10:44 PM ^
Yeah, right. When I was 8 years old, we were warned not to spit on our hands in the line after a baseball game. Resentment doesn't end when the final buzzer sounds.

An up close video of what Juwan Howard said that led to an altercation.

Gard is a punk, and so are most of the players on his team. Krabbenhoeft, or whatever the name of that cheese dick assistant is that ran up and started talking shit is a punk too.
With all that said, Juwan as Michigan's Head Coach, simply cannot lose his composure to that degree in a situation like that. You're basically giving Wisconsin exactly what they want, and now they get to control most of the narrative based on Juwan's reaction.
I love Juwan Howard, I still support him, but he lost his cool in that situation and it needs to cost him multiple games via suspension. Juwan is a passionate guy and he loves his players and his university. I love that about him, but I'm hoping he learns from this that he has to remain in control of his emotions. Any more outbursts like this towards other benches, coaching staffs, players, etc. and it's going to force the AD and University to evaluate whether or not he can remain in the position. I personally don't think it's gotten to that level yet, but this has to be the last time.
February 20th, 2022 at 9:47 PM ^
The problem is the assistant just wasn't talking junk. He shoved Faulds and then agressively put his hands on Williams.
February 20th, 2022 at 10:12 PM ^
Calling that a shove is a stretch.
February 20th, 2022 at 10:32 PM ^
Yes because a college Center is going to be visibly moved back some by anything less than a shove from a much smaller human being.
February 20th, 2022 at 10:14 PM ^
Most definitely, and that weasely turd needs to be suspended by the league as well. I doubt things escalate much more than a little hand pushing and jawing, until he inserts himself into the situation.
But, you can see Juwan kind of slap pushes him in the face while he's grabbing T Wil by the jersey. It's absolutely true that coach shouldn't be putting his hands on Michigan players, without a doubt. But the right way for a head coach to handle that is de-escalate the situation, corral your players off the court, and submit a grievance to the league office to have the suspended. A head coach cannot escalate an already hostile situation, and unfortunately in the heat of the moment Juwan did that.
February 20th, 2022 at 10:49 PM ^
The other issue that's now coming into play across several news centers is JH's previous incident against Maryland last year. If this was an isolated incident, he might stand a chance but this might not end well for him or the school. Like it or not, he obviously has anger issues.
February 20th, 2022 at 9:28 PM ^
Taking a swing isn’t excusable, and the TO thing, while clearly a reason, isn’t a good reason. But the video also shows how… intense things were, and we see and hear Juwan already very frustrated the moment he felt Gard was physically crossing the line.
And there’s a lot of chaos, but it sounds like there was a lot of yelling from both sides. So things get intense. And it does put things into context.
I don’t believe firing is going to be the end result here, and I will be grateful if so. Might not even need to suspend for the whole season. But a multi-game suspension is appropriate, and Juwan has to develop the discipline not to allow those perceived physical provocations to prompt him to escalate. He is by no means the only man who has reacted poorly in such situations, but it’s something that needs to be controlled.
And I think he will.
February 20th, 2022 at 10:03 PM ^
Well stated. Hopefully a learning experience albeit a more exaggerated, intense one than usual learning experiences. But per usual the capital N, nuance, involved should lead to a proper result and way going forward. These 2 won't be laughing about this and grabbing a beer in the next half-decade. However someone losing their job because of this seems knee-jerk and instead hopefully results in education and better results for future...situations.
February 20th, 2022 at 10:21 PM ^
The problem is that there was also the Turgeon incident last year. That should have been the "education and better results" moment. That this new thing happened just a year later gives me pause.
February 20th, 2022 at 11:07 PM ^
It’s probably best to just do away with the post game hand shake. Have them shake hands before the game. Kind of playing with fire by doing it after games.
February 21st, 2022 at 12:18 AM ^
It’s odd to me how you stand by this position when the video shows that he was stuck in the middle of a very heated situation and that he was not the instigator.
I don’t know what year you graduated from U of M but they still taught critical thinking and nuanced analysis when I was there. I’d venture the same for Juwan.
February 20th, 2022 at 9:32 PM ^
not a great look, but in the face of a boatload of provocation and when it's all said and done, we shouldn't be getting our panties in too much of a wad over it. next time wiscy behaves, we will too. nobody hurt. no blood, no foul. pick up the flag. go to commercial break.
to be clear: juwan is going to get a couple days off for this. i'm just saying its not the cataclysm, 'he gone!' event some are making it out to be.
February 20th, 2022 at 9:34 PM ^
“I’ll remember that shit” should be reserved for dunking or hoisting 3s on our bench players when down 15 points, not for a meaningless fucking timeout when YOU are the one still in a full court press. I think it’s weak as hell and there’s lots of spin going on but Juwan comes out the loser here.
