Howard and Michigan will take the L on this one. But, this is typical Wisconsin. They're dirty as hell, but never get the thug label. I wonder why. How many qb's have they knocked out? How many dirty plays do they get away with across the board?

Then they want to play victim when they poke the bear. I'm behind Juwan on this one.

Warde is soft and already bending over for Wisconsin. It's almost as embarrassing as Hoke and the dagger at msu.

What appears clear from the video is that Jaron Faulds calmly steps in between the two coaches to diffuse the situation at which point it would have been over except Krabbenhoft and some Wisconsin dude in a black shirt try to force their way between Faulds and Twill following which the altercation occurs.  Then the Wisconsin players all force their way into the situation.

Not excusing Howard but I would never want to get in a handshake line with these people.  Faulds deserves kudos for his support of his coach and his sportsmanship.

Also, as Ant Wright points out, Juwan was hanging back until that Wisconsin assistant started pushing his players. Doesn't justify Howard's response, but it shows there's blame on both sides. Why was that coach and the staff member who had William's wrist even pressing forward towards Howard? Faulds had already separated Juwan from Gard, and then those guys and some Wisconsin players just start pressing forward towards Juwan. It's bad all around.

Video of Williams and Faulds being pushed before Howard snapped: here

It's the first time I saw this video.  I hadn't seen Krabbenhoft push Faulds and TWill like that in the other videos.  If the other coach is pushing our players around while they are trying to diffuse the situation then that may be enough to justify Howard's response.  I think he was trying to push them out of the way to start something with Howard.

Time to end the handshake line with teams like this.

The idea of the handshake line is to force these athletes and coaches to swallow whatever anger, resentments, etc. they are feeling and to face the opponent in a non-antagonistic posture and SHAKE THE DAMN HAND.  It's why we do this.  It has worked for a long time exactly the way it should.  JH's behavior was embarrassingly adolescent.

Gard is a punk, and so are most of the players on his team. Krabbenhoeft, or whatever the name of that cheese dick assistant is that ran up and started talking shit is a punk too.

With all that said, Juwan as Michigan's Head Coach, simply cannot lose his composure to that degree in a situation like that. You're basically giving Wisconsin exactly what they want, and now they get to control most of the narrative based on Juwan's reaction.

I love Juwan Howard, I still support him, but he lost his cool in that situation and it needs to cost him multiple games via suspension. Juwan is a passionate guy and he loves his players and his university. I love that about him, but I'm hoping he learns from this that he has to remain in control of his emotions. Any more outbursts like this towards other benches, coaching staffs, players, etc. and it's going to force the AD and University to evaluate whether or not he can remain in the position. I personally don't think it's gotten to that level yet, but this has to be the last time.

Most definitely, and that weasely turd needs to be suspended by the league as well. I doubt things escalate much more than a little hand pushing and jawing, until he inserts himself into the situation.

But, you can see Juwan kind of slap pushes him in the face while he's grabbing T Wil by the jersey. It's absolutely true that coach shouldn't be putting his hands on Michigan players, without a doubt. But the right way for a head coach to handle that is de-escalate the situation, corral your players off the court, and submit a grievance to the league office to have the suspended. A head coach cannot escalate an already hostile situation, and unfortunately in the heat of the moment Juwan did that.

Taking a swing isn’t excusable, and the TO thing, while clearly a reason, isn’t a good reason. But the video also shows how… intense things were, and we see and hear Juwan already very frustrated the moment he felt Gard was physically crossing the line.

And there’s a lot of chaos, but it sounds like there was a lot of yelling from both sides. So things get intense. And it does put things into context.

I don’t believe firing is going to be the end result here, and I will be grateful if so. Might not even need to suspend for the whole season. But a multi-game suspension is appropriate, and Juwan has to develop the discipline not to allow those perceived physical provocations to prompt him to escalate. He is by no means the only man who has reacted poorly in such situations, but it’s something that needs to be controlled.

And I think he will.

Well stated.  Hopefully a learning experience albeit a more exaggerated, intense one than usual learning experiences.  But per usual the capital N, nuance, involved should lead to a proper result and way going forward.  These 2 won't be laughing about this and grabbing a beer in the next half-decade.  However someone losing their job because of this seems knee-jerk and instead hopefully results in education and better results for future...situations.

It’s odd to me how you stand by this position when the video shows that he was stuck in the middle of a very heated situation and that he was not the instigator.

I don’t know what year you graduated from U of M but they still taught critical thinking and nuanced analysis when I was there. I’d venture the same for Juwan.

not a great look, but in the face of a boatload of provocation and when it's all said and done, we shouldn't be getting our panties in too much of a wad over it. next time wiscy behaves, we will too.  nobody hurt.  no blood, no foul.  pick up the flag.  go to commercial break.

to be clear:  juwan is going to get a couple days off for this. i'm just saying its not the cataclysm, 'he gone!' event some are making it out to be.

“I’ll remember that shit” should be reserved for dunking or hoisting 3s on our bench players when down 15 points, not for a meaningless fucking timeout when YOU are the one still in a full court press. I think it’s weak as hell and there’s lots of spin going on but Juwan comes out the loser here.
