I for one, am shocked

0-2

45-23
May all OSU QB's be as successful as CJ in The Game.
That said, wishing him the best in NFL and congrats on the imminent huge contract and life changing $

Haha. He'll get paid. But unlike you I wish for every Ohio QB to follow in their long tradition of taking a giant dump all over themselves in the NFL.

Some version of this timeline would also be welcome

Watch the media still rank OSU above UM going into next year, despite beating them the past 2 years, having the returning starting QB, and an absolutely loaded roster.
The media really is in love with recruiting rankings. Not that it matters...we will break them again in November, and hopefully finally finish the job in the playoff against Bama or UGA.

Watch the media still rank OSU above UM going into next year
Honestly I would prefer that. At this stage in my life, I always prefer to be the underdog. I've seen too many games where it appears we went in overconfident and fell on our face, most recently against TCU. Now maybe it wouldn't have made a difference, but I'd prefer to be the disrespected team with a chip on our shoulder than the overconfident favorite...
January 16th, 2023 at 9:17 PM ^
Amen to that. Fifty years too many of watching our alma mater's teams play well when not expected to win and play poorly when they're expected to win. I'll never understand why this seems to be true across all sports and all my years.
January 16th, 2023 at 2:01 PM ^
They'll likely do it based on recruiting and what they did in the playoff. So therefore OSU will likely be ranked above Michigan regardless of Michigan beating OSU two years in a row.
January 16th, 2023 at 1:31 PM ^
He declared bankruptcy to Michigan. Now declaring to the NFL.

Once again he waited until the very end to commit to a decision.
January 16th, 2023 at 11:24 AM ^
The Indy dome should suit him well. Let the backup play the road games
January 16th, 2023 at 12:25 PM ^
Theoretically yes but I don't believe he's ever seen the building in person :)
January 16th, 2023 at 12:58 PM ^
Savage.
January 16th, 2023 at 12:58 PM ^
nicely done :)
January 16th, 2023 at 11:24 AM ^
Darn. He never got a chance to see the campus...
January 16th, 2023 at 11:24 AM ^
Getting to Indy, one way or the other......
January 16th, 2023 at 11:25 AM ^
damn. thought he could come back. Hope he goes to a warm NFL city and never has to face the sniffles again. We'll miss you, sad panda.
January 16th, 2023 at 12:11 PM ^
He's probably in luck. The Texans and Colts (dome) are the first two in search of a QB and will likely take Stroud and Young.
January 16th, 2023 at 2:26 PM ^
But, definitely not in that order. :)
January 16th, 2023 at 3:21 PM ^
As long as he doesn't go in the #6 pick...
January 16th, 2023 at 12:36 PM ^
Stroud’s two games vs. Michigan: 65-97, 743 yards, 4 TDS, 2 INTs. He wasn’t the reason they lost.
January 16th, 2023 at 12:41 PM ^
Agreed. It was that weak ass defense that folded in the second half.
January 16th, 2023 at 12:48 PM ^
And an offense that was pretty one-dimensional. OSU didn't run that well in either game. But either way, Stroud wasn't their problem. Arguably he's why those already-bad losses weren't a whole lot worse. Remember all those circus catches in the 2021 game that kept OSU in contact with Michigan?
January 16th, 2023 at 12:52 PM ^
Can you do a breakdown of his 2nd half stats?
January 16th, 2023 at 1:02 PM ^
These stats miss the two near-picks by McGregor and the cancelled strip-sack.
January 16th, 2023 at 1:54 PM ^
Stroud was an outstanding college QB. He was especially great against Georgia. He might end up going #1 in the draft. Ripping him is just a Michigan fandom thing for some people. In reality, the fact that a player of his caliber was the OSU QB in both of those wins only makes them more impressive.
January 16th, 2023 at 2:28 PM ^
He is very accurate when conditions are perfect. I totally expect him to flame out in the NFL just like every-damn-one of his Ohowihate QB predecessors.
January 16th, 2023 at 3:53 PM ^
Precisely. Ripping Ohio State quarterbacks is a time honored tradition, not merely because they play for our rivals, but also they are universally system quarterbacks, who excel in college with a massive talent disparity in their favor, but who have in almost no way been prepared to play against NFL defenses, leading to us delighting in claiming their amateur success illusory.
January 16th, 2023 at 4:17 PM ^
Justin Fields starts for the Bears. Haskins’ problem was his head, not a lack of talent. Stroud may be the #1 pick. Now let’s talk about how Michigan’s recent QBs are doing in the NFL…
January 16th, 2023 at 11:25 AM ^
I was told he had unfinished business. Particularly, winning The Game.
January 16th, 2023 at 11:45 AM ^
I heard he actually wanted to see the inside of a classroom. It appears that’s reserved for graduate studies.
January 16th, 2023 at 11:25 AM ^
I did see he was the second highest paid player in NIL which paid him 2.5 million last year so he wouldn't have actually been hurting to stay another year, but the thought of getting his ass handed to him by Michigan again and going down in history as the greatest quarterback at OSU to have never won a B10 championship probably moved the needle.
January 16th, 2023 at 11:30 AM ^
If he’s drafted in the first round I think his signing bonus alone will be on the order of $8 million, and his salary will be another truckload of money. $2.5 million in NIL is great, but it doesn’t match what he’ll likely get in the NFL.
January 16th, 2023 at 11:39 AM ^
Hutch's signing bonus was 23.2 million. I had a friend tell me that OSU was putting together a 4 mil NIL package for him. He's an OSU fan so...yeah
January 16th, 2023 at 11:32 AM ^
Not sure if The Game or the B1G mean that much to OSU anymore. Oh I’m sure the fans and some of the players are still crushed, but the way they played, it seems one reason OSU gets so many 5-stars is that college ball is just an NFL finishing school to them. They’ll win it again, maybe even the next one, but Stroud was an NFL draftee waiting to be eligible. He wasn’t gonna stick around.
January 16th, 2023 at 12:00 PM ^
That's a really interesting point and one I hadnt really thought of before. With the diminishing number of impact players at OSU who are actually from Ohio the intensity of the rivalry diminishes as well.
You really cant teach hate in a couple of years. I think our guys hated losing and being reminded they were getting their ass whipped by OSU on the regular more than they hate OSU itself. Just like MSU hates being reminded they are "little brother" to us academically, athletically and in every other measureable we hated losing to OSU.
January 16th, 2023 at 1:34 PM ^
You really cant teach hate in a couple of years.
Gemon Green’s face might disagree with this comment. It seems to only take a couple weeks to teach hate in EL. Agriculture, packaging, and hating Michigan appear to be MSU’s top academic programs.
January 16th, 2023 at 3:34 PM ^
I've heard their hotel and restaurant management program is highly regarded as well.
January 16th, 2023 at 1:00 PM ^
It's a shame they didn't do a better job of finishing Jeff Okudah.
January 16th, 2023 at 1:21 PM ^
OSU winning the Game so many years in a row sort of destroyed the rivalry in the short term. After 16 years it wasn't a challenge. Winning the National Champion was there thing. Now that we're winning again, their going to care. You don't make the CFP most years without winning the B1G and beating Michigan. I'm hoping Day is Cooper 2.0. Winning all but one or two games and one of the losses is to Michigan.
January 16th, 2023 at 1:37 PM ^
When it goes to 12 teams, OSU can easily make it to the playoffs without beating Michigan or winning B1G.
January 16th, 2023 at 11:33 AM ^
Please (for real) send a link to that NIL list. I've yet to see anything reasonable on the WWW, but I haven't searched correctly.
January 16th, 2023 at 12:32 PM ^
This is interesting, if true. It means that UM is probably more egalitarian in its NIL policies, and I would guess that this would be better for locker room dynamics.
January 16th, 2023 at 1:39 PM ^
Where are they getting their numbers? I don't see anyone "showing their work."
January 16th, 2023 at 1:45 PM ^
What is the method used to calculate the average? Is it value to the average player, average value to players who receive NIL, or....
In other words, suppose you have 85 players and 1 player gets $85, and the rest get nothing. The average per NIL deal is $85 (only one deal), but the average per player is $1.
January 16th, 2023 at 12:33 PM ^
Whoa!!!!!!!!!!!
Michigan is second on average on that list. That’s incredible. By the tone of this blog, you’d think players had to pay Michigan to play here. But I do see, without a large deal for 5 stars, may still make it hard for them to come here.
January 16th, 2023 at 1:08 PM ^
I believe most folks are concerned that we don’t do enough NIL for recruits. The perception is you have to be here and contribute to get NIL. While I can see how that makes sense, it also risks getting left behind with top talent. (Of course, it might not matter given the yearly Harbaugh to NFL drama.)
