Per Chris Peterson GBMWolverine - depressing news

Submitted by Ajcoss on May 16th, 2019 at 3:33 PM

This article if true & accurate very depressing.

Out:

Stevens, Donovan, and Marshall. Beard super unlikely.

Guys on list:

Smart (Shaka Smart continues to get mentioned and according to Webb, Donovan actually recommended Smart, his former assistant, as a candidate.)

Ed Cooley

Lavall Jordan

Frank Martin

johnny Dawkins

coach K.....Utah lol

Hopefully Peterson/Webb no nothing. If true, this is not good. Gotta think Howard is best option on these guys. Maybe Cooley?

My question for group that is more connected than me. Webb & Peterson usually spot on? Hoping they are known to be wrong!

Not according to what someone posted earlier... whether it is true or false, am pointing out that 5 of the 6 on his supposed short list are minorities.  Thats all.  And watch the reaction by the insecure folk here...

I am happy that so far this discussion hasn't been politically charged.  Hope it stays that way.

Here's my view.  I don't mind that 5 of 6 or even 6 of 6 of his preferred candidates are minorities, as long as those are the best candidates he can find to coach, recruit, develop talent and run a clean program.  I also would not care if 6 of 6 were white, Asian, female, etc.

I just hope that Warde is looking for the best possible coaches irrespective of race, gender, etc.  I have no reason to believe that Warde would do otherwise, so I will give him the benefit of the doubt.

If Warde were to say that he race / gender / etc. were a consideration as to who he hires, that would bother me.

Which of the minority dudes you disagree with?

The one that's an NBA assistant and an alum? The one who took VCU to a final four? The one who coached here a few years ago and is at a solid sized mid major? The one who has made 5 straight tournaments? The white guy? Or the guy who took South Carolina to a final four?

I think Howard is the best option now. My only concern is that long term he wants to be in the NBA and is at UM only for a short run.

These are realistic options. I really like Javall. And Shaka will definitely bring a little bit of the "grey area" cheating that some people say we would be okay with. So I'm fine with either. I also do like Howard or an assistant

But I don't know why people got their sites set on the Donovan, Stevens, Beard, Wright, etc.

I'm coming around on Smart, with the caveat that he finds someone to run the offense.  Hell of a recruiter and with talented assistant coaches, maybe the development of his players will be improved compared to Texas.  Maybe this is just the acceptance phase, but I don't think he would be a bad option.

I actually really like Shaka Smart - his player development could improve I feel but overall that would be a solid hire along with this staff.   What is interesting is when you looked at the KenPom efficiency metrics before the tournament started, the most efficient team that did NOT make the tournament was Texas.   They won the NIT without Jones for the whole season, and they would have probably won the league or been neck and neck with Texas Tech if they had him.  He is a good coach, outstanding recruiter and if he can built up his development capability through his assistant coaches, then he would be a great hire.  Keep this staff, bring his top recruiter and go out there killing it.   I actually like the Shaka Smart idea to be honest better than any other REALISTIC option listed.

I have a strong feeling if we hire Howard, he will be leaving in 1-3 years to pursue that NBA head coaching job that he's been after for years. At least with Smart, you're getting a great recruiter who's only 42 and is probably less likely to leave within 3 years.

hahahahhaha of course that list of dog shit is who Michigan would go after

What a joke.

UM administration makes it so god damn difficult to be a fan with how piss poor they run things.

None of those guys will compete yearly with Izzo or Painter.  Hell, none of those chuckle fucks will compete with Turgeon or Holtmann, or Hoiberg, and on and on.

Good christ what a complete 180 from where the program was heading after those few weeks where they beat Villanova and UNC by 20 each.

Has there ever been a faster and more explosive nosedive in history?

Being good at basketball was fun for a while! Back to Ellerbie levels again.

I bet MSU and Purdue are dying laughing at this shit show.

MSU, Purdue, pretty much the entire top half of the B1G, Kansas, NC, Duke, etc. wouldn't have a single one of these garbage names on their lists, let alone hire one of them.

They would go get themselves a top name and would pay for it.

But you see, Michigan doesn't give a shit.  They know the money is coming in regardless because we are all so damn stupid and buy tickets and watch the games on TV anyways.

So why pay top dollar for a coach, when you will make the same on ticket sales and in TV contracts anyway?

I blame all of us for the incoming downfall just as much as I blame Warde and the rest of the administration.

We all better brace ourselves for at least 2 transfers once one of these dog shit coaches get hired.

The glory days of UM hoops is over.  Thanks for the memories. But fuck me if I am gonna sit around and watch Shaka fucking Smart or Ed fucking Cooley get jail-sexed by Izzo 3 times a year, and then lose in the first round of the NIT year after year.
