Chances JJ and DE return in 2024?

Submitted by ska4punkkid on November 18th, 2023 at 10:03 PM

Is JJ really ready for the NFL? I think he needs another year of college ball

DE def needs a year of being “the guy” cuz a few great games in 2022 ain’t getting him drafted after the season he’s had in 2023

With NIL it might be worth it for both of them to stay. I may also be extremely biased :)

I think we all thought they would both be gone to the NFL after this year but I’m not so sure anymore. What do you think?

JJ hasn’t thrown a TD pass in four weeks. He has had a couple of bad games vs not great defenses. He is still a work in progress.

Could he leave? Sure. But he is fourth or fifth best QB currently. Caleb, Maye, Penix, Nix, and maybe even Beck.

Edwards is going to be a WR in the NFL. He is gone regardless.

Not ready yet. I think JJ needs another year. I would say his stock has dropped in the last 3 weeks. I hope he has a big bounce back to finish the season and into the playoffs. But I think he could use one more season.

Barring a championship run and/or where he puts up serious numbers and limits mistakes, JJ is back regardless of coach IMO. Over the past month, he’s really regressed, all injuries aside.

Unless the offense is revamped to feature him significantly more as a Percy Harvin-style player, Edwards is likely a transfer portal guy to a team that will utilize him a ton - even if at a lower end P5 school.

Definite chance especially with all the bs that’s going to be made of the signs this year. Next year there will be none of that. I could see them coming back to prove a point.  Need to get the nil money ramped up.

JJ = 0% chance he returns next season.  NFL scouts have been drooling over him all season.  JJ would be a fool to return.

Edwards = 10% he returns next season.  Even though Edward's had a mediocre season, Edwards already said he is leaving after the 2023 season, and he still has the skill-set to get drafted by an NFL team.  One could argue Edwards is more valuable to NFL teams than Corum, because in the modern NFL RBs must be able to catch the ball coming out of the backfield.

Both should leave, especially Edwards. Last year he showed he can be a good back and has the chops to succeed in modern NFL offenses.

JJ still has more to show, but he won’t show it at Michigan due to our offensive nature. He has showed himself well and much like last year, these next few weeks to close the year will help materialize his maturation, skill, athleticism, and leadership.

Michigan runs a more NFL-like offense than anyone else!  Those ~20 yd digs he's hit all year?  Those are a staple of the NFL!  Nobody else in college runs those plays.  I do agree with you last sentence - a 4th (or 5th) year will help any player.  But to say he can't show NFL skills as the Michigan QB?  WTF, man...

JJ will be the 3rd QB taken so should go.

DE should come back but running backs have a short shelf life so I wouldn’t be surprised if he leaves.

Of course they will both be gone if Harbaugh isn’t here.

I think both will be gone, because I think we win it all. We match up perfectly with Ohio state and that game will be a blowout, but I hope we don’t beat them so badly that we are ranked number one afterwards. I think the two seed will get an easier matchup than the one seed.
If we do lose in the national championship game, JJ will come back as long as Harbaugh does. Edwards game is tailor made for the NFL and I don’t think he’s coming back regardless.

Lol, Edwards wouldn't get drafted. The only way that's accurate is if you say he wouldn't get drafted in the 2.5 through 7th rounds because he'd already be gone by then.

I don't think you're reading that right. I'm responding to the OP saying this:

"DE def needs a year of being “the guy” cuz a few great games in 2022 ain’t getting him drafted after the season he’s had in 2023."

Donovan would be gone before the third round if he declares this year.

Most people don't seem to remember this but during a press conference a year or so ago, JJ did say that he intends on staying all 4 years. Because of that, and the fact that he loves playing for Michigan and wants to be an all time legend, I think there's a good chance he returns.

In addition to these two, we have several guys on D that are going to have decisions to make:

Rod Moore and Junior Colson seemed like locks to leave before the season but I don’t think they’ve done a lot to help themselves this season. McGregor is another player probably on the bubble. I don’t know what Harrell’s NFL upside is so he may be back as well.

It is entirely possible that all we lose from the starting D for next season is Jenkins, Barrett, Sainristil, and Wallace.

JJ with another year of JH's mentorship would be awesome to see.  But that will likely not happen because OSU continues to have its hand firmly up the ass of its Puppet Pet Titty, who will find a way (with the help of the "special" OSU/PSU committee) to suspend Harbaugh for multiple games as a result of the ball boy clipping his toenails in public or some other similar egregious violation.

Even if JJ is gone, things don’t look as dire as I thought for next year. Don’t get me wrong, it’s going to be tough and there will be growing pains but when you look at the young talent it’s pretty encouraging. They will need to snag a few transfers though to finish the puzzle.
