Bret Beliema quote on tunnel incident

Submitted by Jordan2323 on November 4th, 2022 at 6:10 AM

I was not oblivious to the fact of what started to get reported on Saturday night and I knew it would have a huge effect on my team,” Bielema said. “I know what Coach Tucker stands for, he’s a tremendous person. … We go to Michigan in two weeks so there’s things that I’m filing away right now that I’ll bring up that week when that moment comes.”

Is this idiot really gonna try to bring up negative shit on Michigan or Harbaugh to try and make light of what happened because he likes Mel?

When it happened I figured the thing would get flipped onto Michigan somehow.  Sounds like there are people that won’t say it but secretly blame M. Disgusting.

Experienced coaches know the psychological benefits of buttering up their opponent before they play them. He will be praising Michigan football next week before we play them. Watch and see.

There isn't a coach in the B1G, including Tucker (even though he should), that worries about Michigan's tunnel.  For starters, all but one of them have sufficient discipline on their team to avoid something as stupid as many-on-one beatdowns, and they see the macking and displays of manliness for what it is, i.e. preening.

Fuck Bulge and the Clydesdale he rode in on.

I was thinking this is just some boilerplate "Big Ten coach is asked about tunnel assault and blames MSU" sort of quote, but I'd almost forgotten Bret Bielema is the kind of guy who thinks Dan Campbell's kneecaps speech should've been more literal.

Go ahead, Bert, attack Harbaugh's program as the instigator there.  It's a bold strategy, lets see how it works out for you...

For most people that attack Harbaugh's program, staff, and/or players, it doesn't work out too well.  And by "most people", I mean everyone.  Seriously - ask Chris Ash how it worked when he fenced his Garden against all things evil (ie: UM).  Ask Butch Jones and Gene Smith about what happens when you make unprovoked comments.  There are so many other examples.  Harbaugh's reputation largely exists because of how he replies to people that attack his program, his players, his staff, and his program's fans.

I challenge anyone to show me one Harbaugh attack that wasn't provoked by some attack on his charges.

So go ahead, Bert - make your comments because MeLLLLL is such a standup guy.  This could get fun...

I don't think it's the tunnel Bert should be worrying about, he has enough trouble on the sidewalk.

Let the fat man prep for something that won't happen.  Idiot.

Probably still salty about being upset in 2008 when he had a top 10 team. I'll never forget that sneering "Michigan is ripe for the kicking" comment he made in '09 or so.

I'm not sure what language Bert is speaking here but I don't think it is English.

Not worth reading anything into it.  He'll say whatever he's going to say when it's Michigan week.

It's clear that Bert is going to try to use this game versus Michigan to try to get his program some national attention win or lose.  Need to pummel them.

"We go to Michigan in two weeks so there’s things that I’m filing away right now that I’ll bring up that week when that moment comes."

What moment is that exactly, Bret? I mean, we were going to have you wordlessly consume a pot roast at midfield during the halftime show, but if you'd rather not....

Kankakee (IL) 4 star CB Jyaire Hill will be on hand for the UM-Ill game. It's pretty much down to these 2 schools for his services. The On3 predictor has 88% for him going to Ill...Let's pound them and maybe take a recruit in the process.

There is some. . . antagonism toward Michigan in Illinois. Not unrelated to being a strong institution but one with far less stature than Michigan. Have noted it among grad student friends. There's been a bit of an unhealthy slurpfest going on here for Bielema here for the last few weeks that mystified me; that will die back quickly when cooler heads recall what an absolute dickhead he can be.

Maybe it's coach speak for "We're playing Michigan State this week.  I'll talk about Michigan next week."

Hard to say for sure, but he was probably thinking about ham.

Exactly.  Also, Mel has publicly taken responsibility for the incident, and has not been blaming anything on Michigan. So Bert agreeing with Mel doesn't mean he's blaming anything on Harbaugh or UM either.

God, I can't believe OP is making me defend Bert.  I need to take a shower now because I feel so gross.

He could have meant absolutely nothing by it but he kind of alluded to the fact that there is “more to come” at a later date by filing it away until that week. Bert has a history of being an antagonistic turd so it’s not like this a major jump to conclusions. It’ll be interesting to see what pops up that week from their side. Could be something, could be nothing. Thought it was an interesting quote is all.

Yes. Thanks to the other guy above for the link and thanks to you for the timestamp. This is a total nothing. No offense was intended by Bret. It's impossible to actually take offense. Sure, if you chop up the quote and eliminate the context, you can read into whatever you want.

This thread should not exist but...oh well.
