Well - we don’t know if he could have come back last year, we know that he didn’t and we know the coaches had pretty much determined by mid-season what a clusterfck the offense was.

Wisconsin was week 9 post injury.  If he were ready to come back UW would have been the best choice.  I doubt there was any interest to blow his redshirt once Peters went down at UW for OSU or the Bowl Game.

As there is nothing to gain by not playing this year I assume he will play as soon as he is close to full go.

He didn’t play in the Outback to preserve a redshirt.  This injury is a full 3 weeks earlier and he has a lot more practice reps under his belt that would make his transition back to the field easier.

He likely wont play much ever for Michigan. Some guy's bodies arent meant to play football due to genetics, bone structure, body movement patterns, etc.  It could be a "freak" injury, but certain guys are more prone to this and I fear he is one. Freak injuries to important players seem to happen frequently at Mich.  We can hope it's not a season ender, but we all know he's done. When has this type of thing ever turned out  better than expected? Never. Assume the worst bc it will be.

Speight (back), Black (foot), Henne (Shoulder?), Morris (concussions), Denard (Elbow nerve), Darboh (broken ankle), Jake Ryan (ACL), Grant Newsome (leg), Justin Fargas leg), Antonio Bass, Sam McGuffie (concussions), Brandon Minor (nagging ankles), Bryan Mone, Mike McCray (shoulder), Peppers (bowl game), Drake Harris (Hamstring) Drew Henson, Matt Gutierrez, Hemingway for OSU, Rudock in Iowa and OSU game.  Thats off the top of my head key players injured or missing imlortant games that were close. I could prob find 50 more If I looked did some digging.  We are cursed. If injuries dont hurt us then we get a weird turnover, the refs blow a call, we fumble a punt, or the last second lasts 3 seconds for the other team, or we stretch too long at practice and get fucked by the ncaaa while evey other school gets away with murder. If this isnt the sky falling then I dont want to know what that's gonna be like.

Mean Joe does have a point. No team has had worse luck than Michigan. On top of the injuries/bad calls mentioned, you can also add in two botched coaching hires, botched AD hire, etc.

Yes, we have Harbaugh now, so obviously not everything has been bad, but this program has endured a lot more shit than most big programs.

Then you haven't been paying attention. Absolutely nothing wrong with what mean joe said. IMHO I think Black is done for the season. Everybody can come on here with a 1000 different reasons of why he might be back, and those people are just throwing out blind predictions as to why he will be back. Much of those same ones think UM has a shot at the CFB playoffs. They have been listening to all the fluff thrown out by the so called experts. The meltdown here will be epic compared to last year. Sad to say but another season of disapointment. Will be at least a 3-4 loss year. Now all the shallow minded homers will deem me a troll. Mean Joe makes a logical comment and is negbombed. Guess most here are unable to distinguish between optimistic and realistic.

You say everyone is throwing out blind predictions and then go on to throw out a couple blind predictions (Black is done for the season & 3-4 losses) of your own.

IMO most people are just getting tired of the doom and gloom "fans" on here.  Go find a different team if you're that fucking miserable.

Feel free to fuck yourself. Not miserable. I'm not the one here with so called medical explanations  saying why he will be back.  Maybe reading comprehension escapes you but let me make this easy for you. It's not "gloom and doom" but more realistic under the circumstances. I am optimistic for a good season and until ANYTHING is proven on the field I choose to stay realistic. But thanks for adding nothing doucheburg. How about you go find another team. I'm probably a bigger fan than you will ever be. Take off your fucking homer glasses and get real!

People on this board are insanely dense, I have no idea why you are getting down voted.

Remember Drake Harris? 5 Star WR with constant hamstring issues? Never really played more than a few downs at Michigan? Is it that unreasonble to suggest that Tarik's outcome holds a similar fate? Hell no.

Please cite some data where we had a player twice injured, nearly a full season injury in both instances, and was a solid contributor after he came back. I'll wait.

I could easily see Tarik being out costing us a game or two - this entire offense has to prove it can move the ball in the air before I believe it. If you were a defensive coordinator game planning for Michigan, why the hell wouldn't you stack the box with 11 guys at least 10 yards from the line of scrimmage, until proven otherwise?

We haven't had a solid passing offense since the 2nd half of 2015 season / first half of the 2016 season. This is reality, and anyone who doesn't acknowledge this is deceiving themselves.

I want this team to succeed, but holy crap people - at least reconcile what you want to happen vs. reality.

"Insanely dense"? What's dense is believing that there is some type of injury curse that befalls U of M players. What's dense is thinking that losing a guy with a grand total of 11 receptions is going to cost the team "a game or two" this season. And what's really dense is thinking a defensive coordinator is going to stack the box with 12 defenders! Do you even watch football? That would be a penalty!!! There are only 11 players allowed on the field (per team) on any given play.

He was WR1 on the depth chart - obviously a guy who was such a small contributor being a starter shows the lack of talent we have at WR or the fact that he was that much better than everyone else. You can choose which of these two facts you want to believe, but the reality is the same - we lost our starting WR for most of the season.

I don’t know if you’ve been watching BTN “classic” games lately.  But they showed the Ohio State game from 2003 when Jason Avant went out in the 1st quarter.  Spoiler alert:  we still won the game.  Losing a WR is not the end of the world.  Losing Patterson would be.

As bad as I feel as a fan, I feel even worse for the young man. I hope that he can keep his optimism as he has to fight through another rehabilitation. I remember from watching the Amazon series how disappointed he was when he sustained last year's injury. He has a bright future. His dreams are still within reach!

As far as fan optimism, I don't think this injury dims the bright present of this team. Yes, it may limit the potential explosiveness of the offense. Yes, it does create some concern with our wide receiver depth. But, this team can still field a very effective passing attack with Perry and DPJ as the main options at wideout. This also becomes an opportunity for one of the other young men to step up and become a reliable, quality option.

For the team, this injury is disappointing, but not devastating. The goals of Indy and Levi's Stadium are still within reach!

This is not devastating to the team! He caught all of one long ball in those 4 games last season (game 1). Crawford caught a long ball in game 2, and no one is saying that his loss is devastating. Further, in numerous games last year, we saw DPJ 5 yards past defenders, yet no quarterback could accurately, or consistently, get him the ball deep.

An injury that is devastating to this team would consist of a player whose production and/or impact likely couldn't be replaced (Gary, Bush, Hudson, Shea, Karan, Evans).

In high school I tore my mcl in football our second game. I rehabbed my ass off all that fall and winter, was cleared for baseball, and promptly ruptured my patella tendon in our first game while rounding second base. It was devastating — more frustration than I could deal with at the time. All that is just to say I can relate to all of this, even though for me it was on a smaller scale.  I feel so bad for Tarik. How heartbreaking. I hope the amazing medical staff at UM can get him fixed up stronger than ever, but the mental part is the toughest.

I don't think those guys transferred because of Tarik Black. I think those guys transferred because they fell hard on the depth chart. I don't think this injury changes that math much. The guys who transferred were not going to contribute much this year even with this injury.

It's a blow to the passing game, but we won't know how big until we see what Nico Collins and Oliver Martin can do this season. I think it probably changes how we can attack opponents as we will probably see less 3 or 4 WR-sets.

Really?

Crawford would be starting now with Black out for possibly the entire season.  McDoom is the one who was caught out of the 2 deep.  Crawford was pissed because he thought he deserved to be a starter.

If DPJ were to go down, this offense would be without a real deep threat at receiver, which is ridiculous for a program this BIG.

Time to get Ambrey and the true Freshman Bell ready to play some meaningful snaps this year at WR.

Welp. If we're trying to look on the bright side, the fact that they haven't felt the need to comment on anyone else hopefully means there aren't any other major injuries. Also the severity isn't known yet so maybe it's not as bad as feared.

That being said, Feldman's tweet says broken foot, which according to the Googles is a 6-8 week recovery. Obviously he misses ND, NW and Nebraska, but if it's 6 he's back for Wisconsin. If it's 8 he misses Wisco and MSU, but week 9 is the bye before PSU. He could still make it back for the back half and play 2 of the 5 tough games. And even if it is broken, he might only miss ND as one of the tough 5.

That was a comment on both them and everyone else. I wasn't really worried, I saw the stuff that Gary was fine and minus one commenter never saw Higdon mentioned. I'm more saying this hopefully means there's no other major injuries we're unaware of, unless someone got hurt and it hasn't leaked so the team hasn't announced it.

Question, if this is season ending is he eligible to recieve another redshirt?

Hopefully we have a season and can real in Kyle Ford and That kid from CT (Cornelius Johnson?)

It really depends on what the injury/broken bone is.  I broke my foot in HS and was only out 2 weeks...missed 1 gm.  They gave me an orthotic insert for my cleat.

sorry for the dumb question but how long do results take to come back from a MRI is it immediately?
