Basketball thread, for those of us out of range of the Sklars

Wow, closed the half by keeping Rutgers from scoring for 5 minutes. Only to close the gap to 15 down. There just aren't any words.
February 29th, 2024 at 9:33 PM ^
So they pretty much need to keep Rutgers scoreless to the under 12 timeout of the second half to get this thing tied up
February 29th, 2024 at 9:26 PM ^
Largest halftime lead in a conference game in 8 years if you can believe that, up15. They just said that
February 29th, 2024 at 9:30 PM ^
A 10-0 run to close the half brings their win probably up to only 4.6%!
February 29th, 2024 at 9:32 PM ^
Team has quit.
Juwan, while I liked the idea of him, is obviously not working out on both on an off the court.
Warde is still a coward and UM deserves a leader, not a desk jockey suit.
February 29th, 2024 at 9:34 PM ^
Rutgers is lucky we ass!

February 29th, 2024 at 9:35 PM ^
I'm not watching, but just for reference, this Rutgers team lost by 17 to Maryland in nj in their last game. We're down by 15 in a half.
Who should we take first next year in the draft????
February 29th, 2024 at 9:45 PM ^
We're lucky to be down by 15.
February 29th, 2024 at 9:38 PM ^
What will Howard have to do next year to keep his job? Finish .500, make the NIT, make the NCAA. I think the bar will be set low for him next year. May be .500 overall and at least a .400 conference record. If no improvement, then he will probably be a goner at the end of the 2024-2025 season.
February 29th, 2024 at 9:41 PM ^
Not sure what the requirements will be at his next job...
February 29th, 2024 at 9:41 PM ^
I don’t see how .500 keeps him his job.I would think it would be closer to .600 or maybe even tournament or gone.
February 29th, 2024 at 9:41 PM ^
I don’t see how this team can possibly be better next year. The young guys get no minutes and the transfers suck. Reed might be good in 4 or 5 years.
February 29th, 2024 at 9:43 PM ^
If you keep him after this year, how could he ever get fired?
February 29th, 2024 at 9:52 PM ^
Honestly, if Howard comes back next year, prepare to see an empty Crisler. We look like we don't belong on the same court as Rutgers. Fucking embarrassing performance after embarrassing performance. Making the worst offense in the NCAA look like the prime Golden State Warriors
February 29th, 2024 at 10:34 PM ^
What will Howard have to do next year to keep his job?
Sign the lifetime contract Warde will offer him.
February 29th, 2024 at 9:44 PM ^
Remind me again why he can’t be fired mid season? OSU has a better roster but since firing their coach the team has played much better. This is a complete embarrassment.
February 29th, 2024 at 9:44 PM ^
Does anyone know how to play defense?
February 29th, 2024 at 9:46 PM ^
I do, but I’m old and slow.
February 29th, 2024 at 9:59 PM ^
Couldn't be any worse than this shit.
February 29th, 2024 at 9:45 PM ^
It's one thing to be bad (and this team may be the worst we've ever had) but it's an even greater sin to be just plain boring. Beilein had some bad teams, God knows Michigan football in the 2010's had some bad, bad teams. But there was at least SOME entertainment value. This team isn't fun to watch. The players looks miserable, they play miserable, the most exciting player is Dug, and he's probably the 9th best starting PG of the last 10 Michigan point guards. The program needs to be turned over entirely, which is a damn shame to waste all of the good Beilein did for this program for over a decade; totally trashed in the span of 5 years
February 29th, 2024 at 9:48 PM ^
I’m a Dug fan I think he has the skill to be better than Simpson and Dwalt. it is just nearly impossible to be successful as an undersized guard when no one else on the floor can create any kind of offense for themselves or make a three consistently. Put Simpson on this team and I don’t think there is any difference.
February 29th, 2024 at 9:49 PM ^
Just to be clear: the only Beilein team that was ever close to being this bad was his first team, with a roster he didn't recruit. We're in year 5 of the Juwan era.
February 29th, 2024 at 9:47 PM ^
Fire him now. This IS Howard's team. It's the result of his bad coaching, his bad recruiting, his bad roster management, and his bad player development.
February 29th, 2024 at 9:48 PM ^
Someone pick up the phone and ask Beilein to come back for three years and hire someone to be his protege to take over.
February 29th, 2024 at 9:51 PM ^
Seriously this. He would hate this roster though.
February 29th, 2024 at 9:51 PM ^
The man's 70 years old. Let him enjoy his retirement.
But there are other coaches out there that could do better than this.
February 29th, 2024 at 9:55 PM ^
True. Literally dozens of other coaches at all levels of basketball.
February 29th, 2024 at 10:01 PM ^
Been plenty of successful coaches who were well into their 70s and did well
February 29th, 2024 at 10:02 PM ^
And I doubt the ending in Cleveland is how he wants to leave the game.
February 29th, 2024 at 10:13 PM ^
If so, he'd have taken another job. It's been four years since Cleveland fired him, and there have been plenty of opportunities if he wanted them. It's safe to say at this point that he's done.
Fortunately, there are plenty of good coaches out there. We don't have to hire someone with prior Michigan ties. Beilein didn't have any when we hired him in 2007.
February 29th, 2024 at 9:52 PM ^
There is exactly 0% chance Beilein wants to come out of retirement. CBB in general is too much of a mess. We need to take a chance on an up and comer.
February 29th, 2024 at 10:07 PM ^
Ahhh yes....an up and comer....like Juwan Howard...makes sense.
February 29th, 2024 at 9:49 PM ^
This is the worst basketball team at UM in my lifetime. Warde needs to launch Juwan out of a canon. He destroyed an elite program.
February 29th, 2024 at 9:50 PM ^
It almost feels as if the team considers it a win if they get the ball over half court without a violation.
February 29th, 2024 at 9:50 PM ^
Normalize forfeiting.
February 29th, 2024 at 9:50 PM ^
Does a dunk count as an uncontested layup?
February 29th, 2024 at 9:52 PM ^
Which one are you referring to?
February 29th, 2024 at 9:52 PM ^
At this point I just don’t see how Warde could justify keeping Juwan at the end of the season. The team has gotten much worse, the team clearly has no concept of fundamental bball, the roster has been constructed by Howard who had no B plan if his top guys couldn’t get admitted and he doesn’t even play the young guys.
February 29th, 2024 at 9:54 PM ^
He tries to play NBA concepts without NBA talent. No plan B or adjustments.
February 29th, 2024 at 9:54 PM ^
Can they really be this bad? Obviously, the answer is yes, but I be like dang...
February 29th, 2024 at 9:57 PM ^
Feels like we are headed towards a Bobby Williams moment.
February 29th, 2024 at 9:57 PM ^
Why get the young guys minutes? No let twill and cheddar keep chucking up garbage.
February 29th, 2024 at 9:57 PM ^
Down 25 to Rutgers 5 minutes into the second half.
Throwing up airballs. Giving up hustle plays.
Shut this shit down
February 29th, 2024 at 9:58 PM ^
Literal lol at the commentator going “oh boy” on that Jace missed layup.
February 29th, 2024 at 10:01 PM ^
The only thing we had left was hope. Hope that changes would be made to give us a chance to start over. Howard coming back eliminates it entirely.
OSU fires their guy, giving them a couple months to find someone to get on board. I know we'll fuck it up.
February 29th, 2024 at 10:03 PM ^
OSU looks like a tournament team now.
February 29th, 2024 at 10:03 PM ^
With each minute, the play by play guys give us another awful depressing stat
February 29th, 2024 at 10:03 PM ^
Normally, if the opposing team had a 6 minute scoring drought over the first 26 minutes, wouldn't you expect to be leading or at least in a tight battle?
Instead, we haven't been within 20 since early in the 2nd half
February 29th, 2024 at 10:04 PM ^
Rutger still has little man syndrome
February 29th, 2024 at 10:04 PM ^
Rutgers making us their bitch on the court. Jesus. Punking us and clowning us along the way
