The Athletic '24 Draft Rankings: JJ #3 QB, Corum and Edwards #1 and #3 RB's
The Athletic has been ranking position groups for the 2024 NFL draft. Previously they did QB's, where JJ was #3 behind Caleb Williams and Drake Maye. Today they did RB's: Corum was #1, followed by Braelon Allen, and then Edwards at #3 (TreVeyon Henderson was #5)

I hear this in the voice of Gus Johnson. Go Blue!
Tommy "two thumbs" Eichenberg...yeah, heard of him. He works for the Don.
The Don is his daddy.
Bowser has to have the best series as a defensive coordinator he’s maybe had in his life. First year at Ohio State, this is why he’s here. They HAVE to get a stop.
Here’s Edwards with a laneeee… Donovan Edwards! Down the sideline! GETS PAST RANSOM! DONOVAN EDWARDS! TOUCHDOWN, MICHIGAN - THE DON!
I just smiled like I was watching my wedding video, thank you.
Glad you can still smile when watching your wedding video.
Youve watched your wedding video?
That is one legendary creation.
Effing nice.
This I like. I picked up Edwards in my Devy league. I do think Henderson is going to have some numbers this year barring osus o line is somewhat coherent. Dude has some talent but not like Don or BTG
Out of spring their OLine was a big red flag.
Oh, it looked bad. People down here are already expecting a big loss in November because of that. They’re in their feelings. That said, I think Henderson is very dynamic when not injured. Not sure if he can do much with that oline though
Henderson is good in open space that’s for sure. However, I have always been more impressed with Miyan Williams compared to Henderson.
Henderson seems to have some Derrick Green (lack) of breaking tackles ability
And fortunately I now no longer need to go think about OSU like “whatever comes out of spring or early Fall doesn’t matter because they will miraculously fix all their issues by the last week in November anyway.”
What has TreVeyon Henderson done to garner that ranking? From what I've seen he's basically just fast in a straight line and that's it. Not much wiggle, zero physicality with Carlos Brown level break tackle ability, doesn't really block well, maybe catches ok but not great rout running... what am I missing here? Honestly not trying to bag on the kid, but just seems like a below average RB with borderline elite straightline speed. Someone correct me if I'm way off base.
"Someone correct me if I'm way off base."
...cricket sounds from the board.
Narrator: But nobody corrected him.
"he's not off base. He is on exactly the right base"
-Treyveyon's coach
3rd base?
Ryan Day gets the gas face.
You’re talking about the “Just for Men” poster boy…. Be very careful….
This comment wins the day!
Kick em in the grill Clarence!
Henderson was the #1 ranked RB (ranked #23 overall) on the 247 composite coming out of high school.
Yes, it really is that simple. If you look at the high school rankings of early round picks, especially first round picks, they are typically at the very top of the high school rankings.
The narrative that Georgia, Alabama and OSU are elite at developing draft picks is spurious. They simply get the most Top 50 and Top 100 recruits, who are the most likely to get drafted, usually in the early rounds, by the NFL. Most of the guys they "get" drafted would have been drafted if they had played at Youngstown State.
Honestly, teams like Wisconsin and Iowa are far more impressive than any of the big programs in actually developing "meh" rated players into NFL draft picks.
I agree. Right now we are way more rich man Iowa/Wisconsin (with the exception of JJ and our running backs) and than we are Georgia. Making a playoff has been the ceiling for power running teams that dont recruit at an elite level like Wisconsin, Iowa, MSU and Michigan. Hopefully we can break through this season as none of those teams have had this kind of talent before. We could make that Clemson leap with a super JJ this season.

I mean, you may think this way, but The Athletic did a pretty extensive dive into this and basically came out with the conclusion that your comments are just your point of view and not based in fact at all. In fact, OSU develops a higher percentage of 3 stars into draft picks than anyone else. Alabama and OSU are both in the top ten of developing 5, 4, and 3 stars into NFL talent. Here's the link:

I'll defend him a bit in that as a freshman he ran for 1,200 yards and 15 TDs and caught 27 passes for 4 TDs. That's 19 total TDs out of a first-year back, and then last year he got hurt and couldn't recapture that performance. He's probably not the #5 RB in the country; I think guys like Sanders at Arkansas and and Judkins at Ole Miss will have better years than him. But I'm also not sold on Allen from Wisconsin, who "came on" when they started playing bad defenses like NW, MSU, and Maryland. Hell, his season-high in yards came against OSU when the Badgers were being blown out. Do I think he'll have a solid year? Sure, but with a new OC and a new HC applying his own brand of football I wouldn't be shocked if Allen underwhelmed at least statistically.
Corum is by far the best RB in the country and Edwards is a top-5 runner and a top-3 receiver out of the backfield. It's going to be a crazy season with both of them healthy.
It would be nice to see a young running back break out and become another big play guy. Sharing the load so that everyone can be healthy at the end of the season. Cole Cabana seems most likely but with this strength staff someone may develop.
I think Stokes can play well. Maybe he cant run over a Penn St and Ohio St line yet but he may be ready to put some work in our other 10 games. I like our freshman Hall. He looked like a budding Deveon Smith and that makes me happy. Cant imagine trying to contain Blake and Donovan all game and have that bowling ball (D. Smith) running at me while they catch a break. No thanks.
Those are his stats though. Whenever I would watch him, he either ran untouched or went down on first contact. Rarely have I seen him break tackles or squeeze out tough yards.
Agreed. He put up big numbers because OSU had multiple 1st rd receivers and he was schemed into having nothing but green grass in front of him. I have not seen a play from him where I think “wow that’s impressive “ and I watch most OSU games. I think there were a lot of players that could have done what he did as a freshman.
In a pick your poison offense everyone will get yards, plays and highlights. Imo Henderson was very good but if you're injured and not 100% you won't produce at your capability. We saw that from Edwards last year.
I mean, I could have done what he did as a freshman, if was a lot younger, faster, stronger.... and had more athletic ability.
I love Corum and I think he's the best RB in CFB right now, but in terms of NFL Draft position ranking, I think I'd flip Edwards and Corum. Corum is going to be 23 when the NFL Draft comes around having had a knee surgery in college and a lot of miles on him. Edwards is going to be 21, much less miles on him, is an elite pass catching threat, and given where Gibbs went this past draft, teams really value those types of traits
I agree completely. I think Edwards is a much better pro prospect than Corum just based on speed alone. I can see Edwards as a second round pick while I think Corum is more like a fourth or fifth round guy.
Yeah, Corum is the better college back but with his receiving chops, Edwards is going to be much more desired in the NFL.
This is the salient point when we contemplate needing to play more of an NFL-level game to get over the hump in the CFP. Yes, we need to play with NFL proficiency and execution, but it also has to be more of an NFL-level gameplan, right from the jump.
We have a huge, huge dual-threat weapon in Edwards, and we need to utilize him to the fullest. Especially in the big times.
There's no real reason to make offense difficult, except that it's the Michigan Way.
Playoff games vs Alabama and Georgia you better figure out how to put up 50. Those D lines arent going to let you win a game in the 20s and their offenses even less so. Better learn how to chuck it around and get them on their heels. They wont break like OSU and their buttery soft d line.
I was getting ready to post similarly but saw yours. I agree 100%. I feel Edwards has a much higher nfl ceiling. No slight to Blake. He will be good also. I just feel after all is said and done and workouts, combine etc., Edwards will go higher. If they stay healthy plus JJ balling out, we are going to have a lot of fun this year!
As much as I love Edwards... he is a star. Corum is built for NFL. very low center of mass.
I had the same sentiment with Wheatley. Friends used to say he will be a better pro than Marshall Faulk and I'd disagree, because Faulk had the lower center of mass that lends itself well to the NFL.
I was told Kyle McCord is god's gift to football and #2 behind Caleb Williams just because Dwayne Haskins and Justin Fields wore the same uniform. Foolproof hairless nut logic.
If those three perform like these rankings, it will be a season to remember!
Gotta have bananas foster, a hurricane, café Dumond, red beans and rice, shrimp Poboy the locals recommend and same thing for the red beans and rice. The eclectic shops in the French quarter are unique experience kitschy but unique.
A part of America most people should experience. I ran into a couple of cabbies, who sounded like they were from New York, but it was a unique version of the local dialect, but they sounded like Brooklyn accents. It was strange. They swore they were born and raised.
Where does The Athletic rank New Orleans?
Behind their subscription.
Is Allen better than Edwards ? Seriously. Edwards is a stud and if Corum weren't here he might be #1.
Finally something sensible. Tired of arguing with people on Facebook that Joe Milton is the best QB this year or that OSU has the best backfield.
I get so annoyed at hype trains when facts and observations say otherwise.
Vols fans legitimately believe Milton will build off that bowl game and ignore the first 3 years of his career. Many think he's better than Hooker. The Kool aid is strong with that bunch
Milton’s Clemson game wasn’t even that impressive. One of his TDs was a deep bomb that was way off target and the receiver barely caught and the other 2 were just deep slant routes against a Clemson defense that clearly didn’t want to be there. Milton still isn’t a generally accurate QB
You argue with people on Facebook?
