I think that Shea is the best player on Michigan.  He might not finish there, depending on how much Gattis helps DPJ with the offense and a defensive player becomes a star.  Last year he wasn't even in the top 3-4 on his team but those guys are gone now.  I would rank him around 10th in the Big Ten right now, but other players might get drafted in front of him depending on the positions they play.

It’s the BTN network we’re talking about here.

Have you ever seen any of their Big Ten football week-of, pregame primer videos? It doesn’t matter if it’s Rutgers, Minnesota, or Ohio State. Our opponent has three positives discussed. When it comes to us? Three doubts or negatives.

Have you seen episodes of their fall camp roadshow series? They go to Northwestern or Michigan State, and it’s all “how great did fitzgeralds’s team look out there today, guys? Great, great, excellent. He’s a heckuva coach.” They go to michigan, and it’s, “well, guys, what did ya see out there today? Well, I think Jim’s got a lot of work to do. We’ll see in a couple months if Jim can get over the hump this year. The last few years haven’t been spectacular.”

Have you seen their big ten football hype video? Most other teams get great highlights. Take a guess what they show for us. Spoiler: it’s the trouble with the snap clip.

Have you seen their big ten football studio commentary? Dinardo and those clowns? It is clearly anti-Michigan. They do little to hide it.

So yeah, I couldn’t give a fuck what BTN thinks.

Assuming this is all true, to their point, we STILL haven't gotten over the hump yet....so it's a valid question to ask. Cause let's all be truly honest with ourselves...if 10-3 with a loss to OSU every single year and never winning the B1G Championship is our ceiling under Harbaugh, then it will turn out to be one of the most over-hyped hires in the history of college football.

I for one don't want to hear about how amazing we'll be in the fall (yet again), or how one of our players looks like a lock for the heisman trophy in September. I just want to see our team finally beat OSU and win the conference. Until we accomplish this, there's not much point in getting all hyped up or talking about how great we are or will be imho. Just keep our heads down and focus on winning The Game.

That's all fine and dandy. Debate the 20 best players in the B1G all you want...not really sure how on earth comparisons of different positions work, but what the hey...

My comment was a reply to the user complaining about the Big Ten Network's coverage of UM Football and their seemingly negative / not super optimistic takes on the program...not this thread's OP.

Not necessarily. College sports is a horribly uneven playing field right now. 10-3 and losing to OSU every year can be seen as an amazing achievement, worthy of the Harbaugh hype, if you think that Michigan is at a significant recruiting disadvantage because they are less willing to pay players (I do) and if you think that the NCAA is in at least some cases biased against Michigan, such as with satellite camps and NIL rights (I don't think they are specifically against Michigan here, but I do think that there isn't a school in the country that would benefit more from a change in NCAA policy than Michigan).

Really, that's interesting.  Fuller I get, Hill I don't know too much about.  But wasn't Harrison part of the LB core that was dreadful for OSU last season?  I remember a couple of white dudes who weren't particularly hard to block or were out of position (in their defense some of the time it seemed like this was on the scheme and not them), don't remember Harrison.

Malik Harrison will be highly drafted.

I am not sure if Ben Victor will even be one of the top 4 receivers this year at OSU. KJ Hill, Chris Olave, and Austin Mack likely put up better seasons. If you are going off measurables and potential, than I could see Victor making the top 25 list. I'm guessing he made the list off his highlight catch against Penn State.

If I had to bet draft order for buckeyes next year: Chase Young, Jeffrey Okudah, Jordan Fuller, Malik Harrison, JK Dobbins, KJ Hill.

Harrison actually had his best game of the season last year vs Michigan, but I can understand not remembering everything from a game that happened 7 months ago.

Truthfully it’s not even fair to group him in with the other linebackers from last season with the way he played. I do partially blame the scheme for Werner’s performance, but I think Borland is just too slow to ever be good beyond a certain point.

An argument can definitely be made for Dobbins over all 3 of the guys I named though, without a doubt

As the other OSU fans mentioned, KJ Hill, Malik Harrison, and Jordan Fuller all have high expectations coming in this year. I think Jeff Okudah and Shaun Wade will both have big years, and a couple of the WRs, whether it's Mack, Olave, Gill, or incoming freshman Garrett Wilson. The LBs can't get any worse, and early talk out of spring is that Baron Browning and Teradja Mitchell are both primed for big years.

they’ve proven over and over to be plug n play. Pryor, Miller, Barrett, Haskins. It drives me nuts to see it happen.

Even worse, Barrett goes out as a FR and a SR against us and two back ups step in and just keep rolling.

They lose a guy to the NFL and bring in a freak show 6’3 230 pound QB transfer who runs a 4.45/40.

They’ll be great again. Question is: Can we rise up to their level because waiting around for them to fall has been a losing concept.

This is where I'm at.  If we are looking at best players overall, I don't think that Shea has shown he's a top ten player. The fact he came back after last year I think shows that he also knows he didn't have a top 10 player season.

Now, with the updated offense, and his time with all the talented players in the offense, I hope that he proves this ranking completely wrong and has a season of a first round draft. I'm hoping there is something in the Gattis Effect and that our offense will have this effect for many years.

My 9 year old will occasionally do a spin move when playing in the back yard, "like that one guy at Michigan"  [did against Nebraska.] .   I forgot about DPJ's Paul Bunyan pose.    I sure hope Gattis doesn't bait and switch us on the #speedinspace deal, because I think DPJ will completely blow up if you put the ball in his hands and have some swagger while doing it.

Nico, TB and our slot army too.

You mean not badly overthrowing our wide open receivers like we've seen ad nauseum for years now? He actually throws a catchable deep ball that connects. Could it improve? sure he could hit everybody in stride every time but come on, man.  Nico's longest reception was 52 yards. DPJ's was 79. Gentry caught a 42 yarder and Eubanks had a 41 yarder. Ronnie Bell went for 56 on a ball last year. Nico, Bell, Eubanks, and Gentry all averaged 15.0 ypc or better - t's not like we're missing deep balls left and right with Patterson. In fact that was one of the most refreshing things we saw with him last year was that we didnt have to watching screamingly wide open guys see the ball sail 10 yards over their heads.

I’m gonna get negged to oblivion for this because there’s a lot of group think on this site but shea would routinely miss wide open guys down field. Specifically the most egregious one was early against penn state when Collins was open for a good 2-3 seconds past the entire PSU defense, Shea made a super late throw even though he was staring right at him and underthrew it so bad Collins had to go to the ground to get it and the PSU safety that messed up the coverage almost got all the way back to break it up. Thats just one example of a problem I think he had all season which was not being confident in his arm to hit a receiver deep or thinking the window wasn’t there when it was. I think gattis’ offense will be better for him and more of what he was used to running so hopefully that gives him confidence to not hesitate on those reads.
