Are there 20 better players? Unlikely. Are there 20 players with comparable ability but who were actually utilized more efficiently within their respective systems? Almost certainly.

Assuming the Gattis offense is legitimately different and more effective, we're going to look back on this ranking as a joke. But for now we have a good QB who was mostly underutilized, and the ranking reflects that.

Shea is good maybe Jim held him from being great. The season is upon us so I will start to slowly follow football news. It's going to be a great or same ole season. Same ole season for Jim again has to mean Hot seat or Go Blue we are stuck.

It's hard to QB an offense that is at times actively trying not to score. Hopefully we'll stop doing that and have a more accurate view of Shea's ability.

Let's not confuse the concept of "better" with "most important'. Is he one of the 20 most important players in the Big Ten? No question. Best returning QB on a title contender. QB is the most important position on the field. Is he one of the 20 "best" football players in the league? I don't see it.

A better way to frame this: would a top 20 player in any league potentially lose his starting position to somebody else? Would that even come up as a possibility?

Yes, there are 20 better players in the conference.  I will bet there are 3-4 guys on our team between 1-19 on this list.  I like Shea just fine but I'm not convinced he is the second coming of Baker Mayfield.  If he is 2017 Trace McSorely we'll be in very good shape.

Shea is a quality QB but he has some things to overcome, some he can fix on his own, some are beyond his control.

This is his 4th OC in 4 seasons, Gattis has never called plays nor built a game plan nor made an in game adjustment.  We don't have an established RB which is critical to the offense Gattis wants to run.  We have an OL that was much improved last year but one that still struggled at times to give protection and run block.  Thats a lot to overcome and obviously why he isn't a top 5 player in the conference as of July 3rd.

He has a bad habit of running backwards when he gets pressured, turns a small loss into a big one.  His accuracy and footwork are inconsistent, one play he puts the ball right where it needs to be, the next he is throwing a one hop. In an offense predicated on "speed in space" the advantage is lost when the ball is slightly off target.

Its better to have the pressure off slightly.  Last summer a lot of us were hailing the next Heisman front runner and that is a lot of hype for a guy who never work the maize and blue.

Last year felt like Shea was put in a situation similar to Devin Gardner with Brady Hoke trying to run a pro set. This year with the no huddle spread offense, he should really thrive and show what he can achieve. I think by October, we will be scoring 40 + per game on everyone

No.  He’s top 10 after (1) Jonathan Taylor, (2) Rondale Moore, (3) Kenny Willekes, (4) J.K. Dobbins, (5) A.J. Epenesa, (6) Chase Young, (7) Joe Bachie, (8) Lavert Hill and (9) Joe Gaziano.

I like Shea for Top 10!

At QB position? No.

How do you say who’s the best or which 20 are the better “football player”? The training, conditioning etc and play on the field for each position is so different.

Are there 20 better players than Ben Bredeson? DPJ?

Also, not a fan of BTN but I’m just glad they televise a lot of our games. We upped our “tier” with Comcast a few years back just for that reason.

I think he's the best QB in the Big Ten coming into next year. Could Justin Fields surpass him? Sure. But he's pretty unproven, is learning a new system, and didn't have much in the way of stats at UGA last year. So he's a bit of an unknown.

But as far as whether or not there are twenty other players in the Big Ten that are better than him, regardless of position? Yeah maybe. Hard to say when positions are so different from one another
