Amorion Walker to Ole Miss

Remember when they screwed Gentry's career by moving him to TE?
January 17th, 2024 at 2:51 PM ^
They really hit it out of the park moving Ben Mason to DT.

Dillon was never on campus. He decommitted

It would be interesting to see the locker room dynamic at Ole Miss with all the turnover. It won't be too noticeable if they're winning, but lose a game you shouldn't and this could be a mess.
January 17th, 2024 at 1:24 PM ^
I wish the young man nothing but the best, but going from Team 144 to the Ole Miss locker room is going to be the culture shock of his life.
January 17th, 2024 at 2:12 PM ^
To Amorion, being from Louisiana, at least the people in the Ole Miss locker room don't speak English with a funny accent.
January 17th, 2024 at 2:34 PM ^
I agree. I think this is the most overlooked talking point with NIL. There are monetary issues in NFL locker rooms and those are grown men. Give a running back $2 million and the right guard blocking for him $5k and see how that dynamic will work with 18-20 year olds. Some of this was not thought through but NCAA will NCAA.
January 17th, 2024 at 1:45 PM ^
I'm sure car-talk will be a common point of interest in their locker room.
- What interior package they got with their Lambo or Ferrari.
- Best exotic sports car mechanics in Oxford, MS.
- Personalized license plate brainstorming

Which auction is more fun to watch: the Meacham auto auction or the transfer portal?
I do know which one has bigger dollars on the table and it's not the one moving chrome & steel.
January 17th, 2024 at 12:27 PM ^
Great metaphor.
They're both kind of the same to me: watching a parade of great, high-end specimens that I'd absolutely love to have, but sadly know I can't afford.
January 17th, 2024 at 3:13 PM ^
I always wondered who watched those Meacham auctions. It's you.
January 17th, 2024 at 3:17 PM ^
I watch then too. Every car a fantasy of my youth. Every car still a fantasy of my adulthood.
January 17th, 2024 at 11:52 AM ^
So Anthony transferred out in part because Walker and Clemons were pushing him at WR, then Walker switched to CB to get playing time, where he didn't play, and Clemons transferred out?
Funny how these things turn out sometimes. Hope we can find some portal depth at WR - I think the current roster of guys could turn out to be good (Morris, Morgan, Moore, etc...) but wouldn't hurt to get a big experienced wideout. Then again, WR seems like a position where it might be hard for us to lure portal talent based on offensive style.
January 17th, 2024 at 12:03 PM ^
Looking back in it I really wish they'd kept Walker at WR. That 6'4" frame with all that speed and athleticism. Just think of the catching radius! My stars, I think I'm getting the vapors.
January 17th, 2024 at 12:07 PM ^
Unfortunately I am not confident at all in our WR coaching to be able to unlock the physical tools. I love Bellamy but I do not believe WR position coach has been the right place for him.
January 17th, 2024 at 12:14 PM ^
Our WR block like crazy, which is likely attractive to the NFL. I’m too stupid to know, but how does their route running look? The nature of our offense takes away from WRs getting big numbers, but if their routes are good, maybe Bellamy is doing ok?
January 17th, 2024 at 12:23 PM ^
Route running has never been something noticed here. If there's a good route runner, that person is called out almost continuously as being a route ninja, or something like that. Few and far between... You noticed that Michigan WR's 'have trouble getting separation', right? It's a common refrain against decent secondaries and good teams. It's because route running isn't spectacular and also the route trees are simplistic compared to outfits like DeBoer's pass offense.
I think Bellamy has done a good job teaching how to catch and block. Not sure how good he is at route running and design, though... Change him out? I dunno, tough call because the WR's don't lose games, even if they don't necessarily win them.
(Although, to be fair - no one player or position group on a Harbaugh team will win or lose games. Harbaugh uses more 'team' than most other coaches...)
January 17th, 2024 at 1:11 PM ^
I’m seeing the opposite. Route running has been a relative strength the last two years. Roman and CJ has been running great routes all year. Their blocking has been sub par hence the lack of outside explosive runs all year.
January 17th, 2024 at 12:19 PM ^
I love Bellamy but I do not believe WR position coach has been the right place for him.
Which is odd, because he was a WR. I mean I guess it doesn't mean much--there are plenty of coaches whose specialty is completely different than the position they played (Carr, IIRC, was a QB and coached defense, RichRod was a DB and coached offense, etc.)--but I just assume that guys would gravitate towards the positions they played, just on account of all the experience they gained there...
January 17th, 2024 at 2:12 PM ^
Then why do you love Bellamy? He's a receivers guy.
January 17th, 2024 at 1:17 PM ^
6'4" isn't our style. We get short, fast receivers ... and then make them block all game. Defenses never knew what hit em.
January 17th, 2024 at 1:51 PM ^
Maybe he just isn't that good of a football player. For some guys, their good size and raw athleticism doesn't translate to field.
January 17th, 2024 at 12:06 PM ^
Its weird because of all the playing time that would be available this year. Is there any way 2 of those 3 guys wouldn't see the field a lot this year?
January 17th, 2024 at 11:54 AM ^
Never understood why we switched him to CB.
January 17th, 2024 at 12:50 PM ^
Think the thought was Michigan had enough at WR for 2022 and 2023 and were going to be lacking at CB in 2023 so if he hit by 2023, now you've got someone to pair with Johnson.
A little shortsighted in my opinion, but I believe that was the logic.
January 17th, 2024 at 12:57 PM ^
Which made sense, because having a weakness at CB will torpedo your team more than having a weakness at WR. You can scheme guys open, but it’s a lot harder to scheme away a guy who can’t cover.
January 17th, 2024 at 2:13 PM ^
CB is among the hardest, if not THE hardest, position to learn from scratch. Walker had basically zero experience there. And we didn't exactly have an A-list receivers room. It's pretty baffling.
January 17th, 2024 at 2:28 PM ^
Almost all these guys played both ways (WR/DB) in high school, so I doubt he was starting completely from scratch.
January 17th, 2024 at 1:28 PM ^
Can't believe they would not have offered to move him back to WR given the lack of depth and not wanting to lose a guy with his athleticism. It may be that he likes CB and doesn't see a path to the field here.
January 17th, 2024 at 1:07 PM ^
Maybe because he is a better prospect at CB than WR
January 17th, 2024 at 11:57 AM ^
Hotty toddy.......
God I hate the SEC
January 17th, 2024 at 12:00 PM ^
He is from Louisiana, so it kinda makes sense.
January 17th, 2024 at 12:02 PM ^
This kid is gonna blow up at Ole Miss. Frustrating.
January 17th, 2024 at 12:04 PM ^
I wonder how his credits will transfer over -- he might be disappointed if he is expecting 3 semesters at Michigan to earn him more than a PhD.
January 17th, 2024 at 12:04 PM ^
Tamper kings
January 17th, 2024 at 12:09 PM ^
Did he get passed on the depth chart?
January 17th, 2024 at 12:16 PM ^
Irrelevant. Big $, transfer.. Look at the list of tranfer portal guys. Ole Miss has 14 transfers. A&M has 23. Bag time.

They're going for it next year for sure.
January 17th, 2024 at 2:14 PM ^
I doubt he got a ton of money given he hardly played, got passed on depth charts, and was hurt.
January 17th, 2024 at 12:13 PM ^
On a side note, Michigan doesn't seem to be kicking ass in the transfer portal this year like they previously have....
January 17th, 2024 at 12:24 PM ^
I believe we were busy focussing on a national title
January 17th, 2024 at 2:15 PM ^
And we also don't know who our coach or QB1 will be. Not many guys will commit until we do. The longer the mystery goes on, the more it hurts recruiting and the portal. A lot of people argue otherwise, but they are wrong.
January 17th, 2024 at 3:56 PM ^
Other teams in the playoff are doing at least somewhat better than we are. 2 of those 3 teams have already changed coaches. Not an accusation. Not suggesting we should have spent less time winning football games.
Just a statement of fact regarding outcomes.
If you are a 13-17 level recruiting school, and you struggle in the portal.. At some point this catches up with you, even if you're better than everybody at development of the guys you do get.
Lot of time left in the off-season - Just a LOT of guys gone from the portal.
Rob
January 17th, 2024 at 12:36 PM ^
Maybe portal guys are waiting to see how the annual Harbaugh interviews are going to turn out?
January 17th, 2024 at 12:52 PM ^
Yeah, just two guys this year and missed out on both WRs and couldn't convince the WKU guy to come over.
Considering how crucial the transfers were last year (Wallace, Barner, Turner, Stewart, etc.) on a year where Michigan already had a lot coming back, a little bit underwhelming for there to not be more action in the portal this year.
January 17th, 2024 at 12:22 PM ^
he’s going to be a huge star there. book it.
January 17th, 2024 at 12:56 PM ^
I've read this like four times in this thread. I am really curious why this is stated so emphatically.
January 17th, 2024 at 1:17 PM ^
Because many fans scout like Al Davis.
January 17th, 2024 at 12:28 PM ^
Some guys just don't develop, either due to injuries or not dedicating themselves mentally and physically. Good luck to him in the Loony Lane show.
I'm pretty confident we get some grad transfer in the spring portal.
