This is where I'm a bit conflicted as it relates to All as I cant help but suspect dad was a BIG part of the decision to ignore the Michigan medical staff advice and seek out treatment from a basically a drive-through surgery center in a Florida strip mall.  At 22 All is not young in football years unfortunately meaning he'll be 24 when he's eligible to be drafted and many teams (like the Browns for example) have "guardrails" that preclude drafting anyone over a certain age (in the Browns case it's 22).

So a big part of me wonders if dad, seeing Erik's potential earning power in the NFL diminishing, pressured him to do something rash.  And while Erik owns that ultimate decision it's pretty hard to say no to your dad, especially when it might feel like dad is really depending on you for help financially.

I'm a believer in "Exit Interviews".  If the person leaving is forthright/honest, the information can/should be helpful to the organization.  I realize most people here feel like negative comments are "burning bridges" but maybe there is some merit to what All & McNamara are saying.  Not sure if they shared their thought privately before going public.  The fact that they were both elected captains is significant. IMO.

I'm good with this - the guy had some hard feelings when he left, but that is what happens when you're unhappy and young. He'll learn from saying things on the way out the door if he ends up in the NFL and gets cut for the 1st time. Bad mouthing a team at that level gets you a very bad reputation that proceeds you.

Iowa deserves a good year from Cade and Erick. That D was so good yet got screwed by an incompetent OC, QB, OL, etc. Nebraska had only one real big offensive play against them (long bomb). But the other 17 points came off of short fields and Iowa turnovers.

The key for Iowa fans is beating the big three: Iowa State, Wisky, Minny

Two of those are on the road, where Cade's experience will help. All, if healthy, will be his go-to receiver. Like Laporta was this year. Good luck to Iowa and all.

As long as Iowa keeps the Ferentz's employed there, they deserve whatever they get. The nepotism on its own should earn themselves a nice seat in the bottom of the B1G West. Throw in Kirk's general aloofness in other off the field situations and I hope they continue to get owned in El Assico and Nebraska makes it two in a row next season.

The fact that Cade and Erick went there doesn't make me soften my viewpoint of Ferentz and that program at all. I just hope they can play healthy and get a shot at an NFL contract...while playing for a 3-9 football team.

I have a feeling the team is better off without these dudes…both looked kind of like clowns on the way out, and I have a feeling both have “over involved football dads” that think their kids are the only answer to a team’s needs. No thanks. Trust the coaches.

The team IS better off without these dudes. JJ hasn't taken off yet like we hoped, but he's certainly an upgrade over Cade as he offers a running threat. All played in the first 3 games, had 1 reception in each. Maybe his injury was to do with it, but even last year he only had 38 receptions for 437 yards and 2 TD's.

Nothing like picking a place where you can only make it trend upwards.  Good luck to both of them.  Hope to see them in the title B1G Title game.

The smart move for Iowa may be to let Cade be the OC and QB.

They are very young men who let their emotions get the better of them and said some things they shouldn't have said.  Whatever.  I imagine they'll regret it at some point.  Not going to affect their lives or our team in the long run.

I think the real issue is whether they made good decisions.  I suppose they might be friends who wanted to play together.  But why Cade thinks playing for Brian Ferentz is going to help him get to the NFL is beyond me.  And why Erick thinks he's better off playing for Iowa than continuing an excellent career at U of M is also beyond me.  At least Iowa has a good track record with TEs to the NFL, but he had that already at U of M.

As for the medical stuff with All, his surgeon issued a statement criticizing the U of M doctors.  That's utterly unprofessional and makes me question anything he does.  Sounds like Erick got used to further that doctor's career ambitions.  Hopefully it won't come back too haunt him.

I realize both he and Cade left with a bit of salt, but they're young guys with a lot of pride in an emotional moment. They'll both always be among the heroes of the pivotal 2021 season. I wish them both the best and victory over the perfidious Badger

Good luck to the kid. Wish he wasn’t so salty on the way out.

Iowa is not going to have a stellar year. No way they’re getting through the 5 game stretch of @PSU, MSU, Purdue, @Wisc, Minn without 1-2 losses, plus they play Bert later in the season. 8-4 or 9-3 at best.

Whatever . . . frankly the way both Cade and All left has completely turned me off to rooting for them as players. I'm not wishing for them to do poorly, I just won't be pulling for them. It did strike me as interesting that neither of them seemed to be involved with the team at all following their injuries. Some folks said that's normal for an injured player to not be around the team/disengaged, but I present you with counter-evidence in the form of one Ronnie Bell. Those who stay . . .

I saw Erick in my binoculars pregame at every home game. He was often catching balls to help the QBs warm up. Could always find him on the sideline during the game.

Cade I only saw a couple times. Usually not wearing team-issued Michigan clothes. He had on his own stuff, I assume, from NIL deals. It jumped out at me because he was the only guy not wearing something Michigan.

As a former Big Ten athlete myself I find it bizarre that All and McNamara were not going out for the coin toss. I find it more bizarre that McNamara wasn’t visibly leading the team in any demonstrative way. At least All was doing things here and there that I could see.

In the PSU tunnel video, you see McNamara walking chatting with what appears to be a trainer.  Nothing wrong with that, but I would have preferred to see him talking with other players, to have actually been involved in some small way to help M win, especially as a captain.

From an outside perspective, his ego seems to have been badly bruised by being beaten out by JJ.  I can certainly understand that, but on some level you hope someone like that can show a little maturity and rise above it.   A football career can take many unexpected turns: one day you're out, the next day you're back in.  Demonstrating leadership traits encourages coaches to give you another chance if you're on the bubble, and McNamara is a kind of guy that is a very borderline NFL guy.

I'll never fault anyone for doing what they think is best, and obviously I know very little about their situations and all that, but I really couldn't care less to see them succeed at Iowa. If they do, good for them. If they don't, not bothered by it.

Not sure how I feel about the All situation, since by and large it seemed he was still around the team and supporting his teammates and everything, but I don't have any well-wishings for Cade. Really felt like he quit on the team and pouted the season away. I also just don't think he's...that good. Certainly serviceable, but I'm not sure he's the savior they think he his or HE thinks he is. He didn't want to believe JJ was clearly more talented than him, so I wouldn't mind him being brought down to earth again.

Then again if Iowa had anything even remotely comparable to a QB this year they probably would have been in Indy, so maybe it'll all work out. Never the less, not going out of my way to root for these guys. I'm obviously appreciative of what they gave Michigan last year and their impact on the program, but it can also be true that they've done detrimental things too.

I'm of two minds on this. On the one hand, there is almost no industry in which bridge burning is rewarded. On the other, there is precedent for a former Michigan player to take swipes at UM, get a lot of blowback from current players, and have everything turn out all right.

Wow, I never realized just how bad that was. Look at this quote:

"That's a guy I have no respect for," Hart said. "You graduate from the University of Michigan, and you're going to talk about your school like that, a great university like we have? To say that we're not true student-athletes? I don't know if maybe he wants to coach here and he's mad because he didn't get a job. … He's not a Michigan man. I wish he'd never played here."

Fast-forward 15 years and look where both of them are. Irony at its finest!

My taking on All is he followed the advice of doctors initially, then decided when dad got involved to have the surgery out of network. After that he was likely told you will have to be cleared which isn't likely and have to earn your spot back which was the extra slap in the face to him. All speculation but reading between the stories this seems likely.

I made a post(not here socials) immediately following JJ's first start that thanked Cade for all he had done it was clear what was coming. If your Harbaugh and your aren't 100% sure you can win with JJ you don't even open it up. It was clear as soon as he said they were both getting a start and even that I think was Harbaugh giving Cade a thank you for all you've done son. Pretty sour on the way he's acted honestly. Better man won the job you tip your cap and move on thankful for the time you had.

Them being roommates and friends is probably another huge factor. Amazingly benching your Big Ten Champion QB didn't fracture the team more honestly. Why? Cause it was brutally obvious to everyone involved who the better, higher ceiling QB was.

Good for him and Cade.

I would like to beat the dogshit out of Iowa next year for our back-to-back-to-back B1G crown and show them what they missed out on.

Their offense is still going to be horrific when they play legit defenses.

All will add some depth to the tight end room if his surgically repaired spine allows him to play.
