Forgive me if I'm not fretting the loss of a guy who has spent exactly one year at a major program. Nothing about Washington's resume suggests he is indispensable, which is why you have to resort to meaningless cliches like "up and coming."
January 8th, 2019 at 11:22 AM ^
Who did he recruit? Mattison and Washington missed their #1 prospect (Harrison).
Also, Harbaugh (and Brown, assuming he doesn't go to Temple) could have matched his salary at OSU (since he's a position coach), but choose not to and Brown coached with him at BC, so they have a plan or don't value Washington as much as OSU does.
January 8th, 2019 at 11:25 AM ^
Wasn't Washington responsible for bringing in Daxton Hill? Losing him is a problem. Who is the best recruiter on the staff?
January 8th, 2019 at 11:28 AM ^
Partridge.
January 8th, 2019 at 11:37 AM ^
Thank God Partridge is still here.
January 8th, 2019 at 11:40 AM ^
for now
January 8th, 2019 at 12:47 PM ^
Yep. Hope he doesn't end up in a pear tree! (I'll show myself out.)
January 8th, 2019 at 1:36 PM ^
I'll turtle YOUR doves.
January 8th, 2019 at 11:29 AM ^
I thought Hill was from Moore and Jay
January 8th, 2019 at 11:31 AM ^
Moore and Partridge took lead with Dax.
January 8th, 2019 at 11:56 AM ^
Washington didn’t land Hill. Sherrone Moore was his primary recruiter.
January 8th, 2019 at 11:31 AM ^
But did they miss? Looks to me like they'll be coaching him.
January 8th, 2019 at 11:32 AM ^
And yet in a weird way, they did manage to get Harrison. Chess masters, both of them!
January 8th, 2019 at 12:02 PM ^
Now that he is gone I don't feel bad about divulging this:
I have a family tie (Michigan fan as well) within the Olentangy program that was very quiet about Zach Harrison until he committed to the Buckeyes. Apparently, Washington became very discouraged about Harbaugh and Brown losing interest in Zach Harrison. Washington was determined to get the kid to go Blue so he tried making a backdoor deal behind his bosses' backs. Washington contacted one of his best friends (current GVSU player) Jayden Rodgers and promised him a spot on Michigan's roster if he could help push Harrison to Michigan. Harrison and family caught wind of the deal and weren't pleased. His move tarnished our reputation as having honest coaches.
Bottom line is that Washington may be a good coach and tireless recruiter but we will be fine without him as it seems he may not fit with our current staff. Seems more like he belongs on OSU's staff anyway.
Mods: Delete if you think this is too personal or isn't reliable since I am not the first-hand source.
January 8th, 2019 at 1:24 PM ^
WoW. this is a lot for details that is not easy to make up. We may never find out. But that's a good logical reason. IF this is true, looks like Al belongs to OSU,
January 8th, 2019 at 5:29 PM ^
Why is this a bad thing? If anything it speaks to the lackadaisical approach to recruiting from our HC and DC.
January 8th, 2019 at 12:52 PM ^
Well they succeeded now OSU got all 3 of them.
January 8th, 2019 at 1:21 PM ^
I keep envisioning wash and mattison sitting at harrison's table and by some jedi mind trick bullshit convinced them to commit to OSU rather than the other way around.
January 8th, 2019 at 2:39 PM ^
It's infinitely more likely that Mattison and Washington weren't sold on being coaches at Michigan, and Harrison (who seems like a good thoughtful kid) saw right through them.
January 8th, 2019 at 1:18 PM ^
Washington got us our lowest ranked guys, but he got them out of OHIO!
January 8th, 2019 at 7:53 PM ^
Mattison and Washington missed their #1 prospect (Harrison).
Or did they??
January 8th, 2019 at 11:16 AM ^
I wouldn't be opposed to hiring the coaches from a school you care life and death about continuing to defeat.
January 8th, 2019 at 11:22 AM ^
So you want to start stealing MSU's coaches? We can probably get Dave Warner for a good price.
January 8th, 2019 at 11:25 AM ^
Only coach I'd take from EL is D Line. They've been consistently good.
January 8th, 2019 at 12:20 PM ^
Their linebackers are always good too
January 8th, 2019 at 11:27 AM ^
No, but I would take their defensive line coach, whoever that might be.
January 8th, 2019 at 11:34 AM ^
That would be Chuck Bullough (ends) or Ron Burton (tackles). Probably not getting a Bullough. So offer Burton Mattison's salary and reap the reward.
January 8th, 2019 at 1:26 PM ^
I would take MSU's WR coach. I thought Donnie Corley (sp?) looked great as a freshman before the rape thing. He was much more developed than our freshman WR.
Kings also good.
A few others.

The perceptions is worse then the reality but perceptions become the reality in college football.
What I mean by that is just solidifies the perception that Michigan just isn’t on Ohio States level when two coaches bail on Michigan for an arch rival.
It’s a smart move by Day. On the recruiting trail versus Michigan why would you go to a place where the coaches would prefer to be at Ohio State.
You wouldn’t see this happen vice versa.
January 8th, 2019 at 12:01 PM ^
So what do they tell recruits? We were part of a defensive coaching staff that gave up 69 points to osu so come & let us coach you up!
January 8th, 2019 at 12:07 PM ^
It might say more about Urban Meyer and minimum ethical standards that coaches simply won’t go below and be a part of.
January 8th, 2019 at 12:18 PM ^
During the OSU game was anyone complaining that Mattison and Washington were the problem? If they hired Don Brown as sole coordinator, I would agree with you, but they hired Mattison as a co-Coordinator and Washington as a LB coach. Both are known as good recruiters too. This isn’t the end of the world but you’re kidding yourself if you don’t see this as a loss right now.
Also it’s been reported that both Mattison and Washington were offered raises to stay.
January 8th, 2019 at 11:15 AM ^
My head hurts, guys.
January 8th, 2019 at 11:34 AM ^
Have you seen your head?
January 8th, 2019 at 11:46 AM ^
Perhaps, but what an arm on you. That spear throw was epic.
January 8th, 2019 at 3:20 PM ^
Thanks man. Not Joe Milton, but I have some power.
January 8th, 2019 at 11:15 AM ^
This should make the board more bearable today.
January 8th, 2019 at 11:30 AM ^
"bearable?" I'm feeling bullish.

January 8th, 2019 at 11:15 AM ^
sweet. your move Jim...
January 8th, 2019 at 11:16 AM ^
If Don Brown leaves for Temple, I think we have cause for concern.
January 8th, 2019 at 11:18 AM ^
Like 62 points worth? I don’t care who goes off of that defensive staff after that game. Get somebody who will beat Osu.
January 8th, 2019 at 11:21 AM ^
I like how your picture says Keep Calm And Go Blue, but you think we should get rid of every defensive coach because of the last two games.
January 8th, 2019 at 11:26 AM ^
Not saying that, but if they want to go, then go. Sorry, I’m not sad about losing people who gave up 62 to Osu.
January 8th, 2019 at 11:39 AM ^
It will take offense to beat OSU, not defense. Football for the elite programs has gotten to simply outscoring your opponent. Granted, last night was an outlier with Clemson's defense just shutting down Alabama in the second half, but football is about offense these days.

With these two new developments, I have to say I would be surprised if he didn't at this point. Please understand, this is not a concern post (I am not convinced that Brown is the answer for OSU), but these two events combined signal to me that a bigger change is on the way.
January 8th, 2019 at 11:20 AM ^
Harbaugh is not leaving if that is what you are implying.
January 8th, 2019 at 11:22 AM ^
Not Harbaugh, Brown.
