Who did he recruit? Mattison and Washington missed their #1 prospect (Harrison).

Also, Harbaugh (and Brown, assuming he doesn't go to Temple) could have matched his salary at OSU (since he's a position coach), but choose not to and Brown coached with him at BC, so they have a plan or don't value Washington as much as OSU does.

Now that he is gone I don't feel bad about divulging this:

I have a family tie (Michigan fan as well) within the Olentangy program that was very quiet about Zach Harrison until he committed to the Buckeyes. Apparently, Washington became very discouraged about Harbaugh and Brown losing interest in Zach Harrison. Washington was determined to get the kid to go Blue so he tried making a backdoor deal behind his bosses' backs. Washington contacted one of his best friends (current GVSU player) Jayden Rodgers and promised him a spot on Michigan's roster if he could help push Harrison to Michigan. Harrison and family caught wind of the deal and weren't pleased. His move tarnished our reputation as having honest coaches.

Bottom line is that Washington may be a good coach and tireless recruiter but we will be fine without him as it seems he may not fit with our current staff. Seems more like he belongs on OSU's staff anyway.

The perceptions is worse then the reality but perceptions become the reality in college football.

What I mean by that is just solidifies the perception that Michigan just isn’t on Ohio States level when two coaches bail on Michigan for an arch rival.

It’s a smart move by Day. On the recruiting trail versus Michigan why would you go to a place where the coaches would prefer to be at Ohio State.

You wouldn’t see this happen vice versa.

During the OSU game was anyone complaining that Mattison and Washington were the problem? If they hired Don Brown as sole coordinator, I would agree with you, but they hired Mattison as a co-Coordinator and Washington as a LB coach. Both are known as good recruiters too. This isn’t the end of the world but you’re kidding yourself if you don’t see this as a loss right now.

Also it’s been reported that both Mattison and Washington were offered raises to stay.

It will take offense to beat OSU, not defense. Football for the elite programs has gotten to simply outscoring your opponent. Granted, last night was an outlier with Clemson's defense just shutting down Alabama in the second half, but football is about offense these days.

With these two new developments, I have to say I would be surprised if he didn't at this point.  Please understand, this is not a concern post (I am not convinced that Brown is the answer for OSU), but these two events combined signal to me that a bigger change is on the way.
