Tee Martin is the guy we need.  Great recruiter!  He did it at USC and UT.

Edit:  That info was inncorrect.  Tee Higgins played outside of Knoxville (Oak Ridge), but I got my Clemson WRs messed up.

Amari Rodgers is Tee Martin's son.  My bad.  Still probably does not hurt having a son play WR in the league.

Definitely want an excellent recruiter, but ALSO someone experienced as a play caller.
Do not want to go back to the days of "negotiated" play calling that resulted in slow play, poor clock management, etc..  Neither Martin nor Griese have been playcallers, so I (surprisingly) lean toward Pritchard who has a track record of being on OC.
That said, I do not know enough about him to say he's "The Guy".  Can he recruit?  Gotta be better than Weiss. I imagine more names will arise in the coming weeks.

C'mon, the world needs more Michigan Men! Bring unaffiliated coaches here and let them grow, making themselves great and the team great.

FWIW, Lloyd Carr played football at Missouri and had a 12-year coaching career elsewhere before he took the DB coaching position under Bo. He developed into a pretty good Michigan Man.

If you want to place blame for what happened under the RR years, look no further than RR.  He was in over his head from Day 1, wanted to implement a radical shift in program philosophy without the personnel in place and, aside from a few good years at WVU with Pat White, was just not a good head coach (including at multiple stops after Michigan).  Lloyd, seeing what was coming, did right by the players that he recruited and made promises to.  Also, Lloyd managed to do something that no Michigan coach in the past 60+ years has done and won a NC.

I think you're revising history a fair bit here.

Lloyd encouraged RR to take the job, promising support.

Then Lloyd did what he did, for an extended period of time, undermining what little power and support RR actually had here. Rodriguez was definitely in over his head at Michigan, but with real community support, and some better coaching hires/decisions... he could have done some things.

i think i'm 'billy ray' in this scenario and mgrowold is louis.  at this point it's about a 99.8% chance to happen but until it's announced that harbaugh has signed the deal i'm not beating any drum like that as there is a non-zero chance that i could lose and have to go into hiding since i can't cover the bet.

there was a humorous back-and-forth about it yesterday.  mgrow was very funny, as per usual.

He did broadcasting for college football for quite some time so, at the very least, I'm sure he would know what he's getting into. He's been around a lot of football. He was born into it. Won an NCAA championship as a starter an a Super Bowl as a backup. He might win a Super Bowl as a coach. The guy has a lot of stories he could tell and he might be good at telling them.

Having said all that, I'm still hoping (and I understand it's ridiculous) that Tom Brady will decide to hang up the spurs and come coach quarterbacks at Michigan. When you're Tom Brady, you don't have to recruit.

Eeuhh?  Tom Brady is arguably the greatest QB to have ever played the game, at least as a pro, but as a person he's got a reputation.  The kind of guy who'd suck up to a cocky high school kid, he is not.  He'd be a terrible recruiter.

And as a coach, I doubt he can relate to the struggles of a QB that isn't like him.  There are no guarantees, but coaches were often marginal players who studied the game just to get any playing time.  Tom Brady hasn't been that in over twenty years.  He's never stopped working his butt off, but his limitations in college were largely athletic underdevelopment; even back then, I could tell he had a lightning-quick mind and pinpoint accuracy.  I shudder at the thought of Tom Brady aiming his cranial firehose at a bewildered 18-year-old.

I mean, I could be wrong, but he's got the makings of a disastrous college coach hire.
