It shouldn't surprise me but having an amazing atmosphere and then winning the game does wonders for recruiting.  With the transfer portal and everything out there obviously rosters are more fluid but looking appealing to recruits is still king.

Seems to be a kid that will blow up at a Nike regional testing event. His HS coach claims a 4.37 40, and while that’s 5/5 fakes most likely, if he’s in the 4.5 range now before Herbert gets his hands on him, that’s a guy that they now have a track record with of beating the recruiting rankings.

Ren Hefley played for Michigan a few years ago. He was a walk-on QB.

2019-2020: Michigan
2021: Presbyterian
2022: Northwest Mississippi C.C.
2023: Middle Tennessee State

I know this because Tyler knows this.

Oh, and also, I follow him with my Ex-Wolverine Updates posts.

Watched the Hudl tape and he seems to have good measurables and doesn't shy away from contact.  Competition level is a concern but he covers a lot of ground quickly.  Probably needs a year or two of S&C, but looks like he's got some potential.

I'mma trust the coaches on this one.

doesn't he know that all the mgoblog members think that the reason recruiting slowed down was purposeful and because were "all full"? Meh.. grumble grumble.

Anyway, welcome abord, I hope!!!

Also, Beat Iowa.

For months, we turned south on recruiting - starting early summer. The claim was.. "we're almost full up" so losing those guys was no big deal and probably fine. But as the months passed, we were slowly coming back to earth on recruiting, had no buzz, and a few key figures left. Yet, folks insisted that recruiting was totally fine and its because 2024 class was pretty much full. But its not - there are at least 5-6 guys who I think the coaches desperately wanted.

The only reason this matters is because while we are enjoying current success - which I do NOT take for granted, given the 2007-2020 years..... the only way to maintain it is by continuing to bring in top talent.

Bring in top talent, develop all talent (5 4 3 2 stars) and you have what we have now... a great team with great culture. But it is hard to maintain that if from a pure talent level, you're deficient.

Assuming we beat Iowa, the playoffs will tell us if/how much closer to Georgia and other elite programs, we truly are. We lost to TCU last year.. if we lose to UW or Oregon... and we believe our coaching is fantastic - then it comes down to raising the floor on the talent level

You have listed five names, with two of them being the same person. If your point is there were kids they wanted that they missed on, that's every cycle. I think people kept pushing back on you because, yeah when there's only five spots left or whatever, recruiting news is going to be slower as the cycle dies down. The "still working on Gatlin Bair" articles can only be written so much.

He's a 2025.

They literally were almost full on spots. They didn't add anybody for months because they added them all in the spring and were saving the remaining spots for big fish.

There was no "buzz" bc all the buzz had happened earlier in the year,  and UM couldn't host recruits bc of the cheeseburger gate.

Recruiting was and is "fine". It's not a top five class, but the sky isn't falling either. It's pretty in line with a lot of the recent classes that have been the backbone of the championship era.
