I'm hesitant to enjoy the schadenfreude until Michigan wraps up Jadyn Davis.
December 17th, 2022 at 1:02 PM ^
Yeah, I'm not taking too many of these current 2024 commits serious right now especially with the crazy booster money - disguised as NIL - that many of the Southern schools like Georgia, Miami, Louisville and many others are throwing at RECRUITS right now.
I'm not saying there isn't NIL in the B1G, but it's being directed to players on the roster. The entire B1G - including UM, PSU and OSU - is running into recruiting issues because of the NIL which is basically just massively disguised payouts from boosters
December 17th, 2022 at 1:15 PM ^
True, but given who his dad is the switch makes sense, especially now that they trade Frost for an actual coach.
December 17th, 2022 at 1:42 PM ^
I visit the Nebraska Rivals board (just view) and have read that Frost was "hammered" when he was supposed to visit the kid and his parents. He was fired a short time after that. The guy was definitely a tool
December 17th, 2022 at 1:21 PM ^
I'm not saying there isn't NIL in the B1G,
Right.
There is.
It's just that Michigan's for example NIL policy is they don't put down payments on recruits.
Schools in the south do.
That's the (and I hate using this word) competitive difference in NIL right now.
December 17th, 2022 at 1:08 PM ^
Enjoy when you can. Waiting around for something to happen will just create another concern about something else. Michigan fans need to enjoy the moment. Fuck OSU.
December 17th, 2022 at 1:26 PM ^
I certainly understand your thinking, but I'd suggest enjoying the decommit.
Imagine the last ten years (well, maybe the eight before 2021) with Michigan and OSU playing with similar decks (rather than a big difference in base talent). We could be inching toward something like that. In the absence of a complete OSU collapse I'd expect them to always do a little better in recruiting, but a level playing field or something close would be nice.
December 17th, 2022 at 12:28 PM ^
Pretty sure his father flipped a bunch of us off when the Lions were getting booed and destroyed by the Cowboys a few years back.
Good times.
December 17th, 2022 at 12:37 PM ^
Dominic had a few disagreements with Lions fans. He also yelled homophobic slurs at Wisconsin's band at a game against the Packers at Lambeau. Not to mention being a cheap shot artist. He wasn't a very good player either but the Lions organization kept him around.
December 17th, 2022 at 2:57 PM ^
As a non Lions fan I remember him as a good center. But the homophobia is disappointing. Not so surprising in football in the 2000s sadly.

Shorter version: He’s a dick.

I know a guy pretty well who claims to have supplied Raiola with cocaine a few times in his final seasons with the Lions. Always said Raiola was big into the cocaine and strippers. From how well I know this guy I grew up with I’d say it’s very plausible he’s telling the truth but I don’t know Raiola from anyone. I’ve

He wanted to fight my brother-in-law when my nephew plucked Dylan in a travel baseball game. Mojo in the Morning stepped in to calm him down.
The kids ended up playing on the same travel football team a year later.
Dylan was a heckuva pitcher. He didn’t play QB back then. Think he was a RB and TE but that was 7th grade.
December 17th, 2022 at 12:29 PM ^
His uncle was retained by Rhule (was also a coach under frost). Only negative from this is the only other 2024 qb Osu had offered who is uncommitted is Jaydn Davis…
December 17th, 2022 at 12:29 PM ^
OSU just took a 2023 four star QB which makes for a pretty cluttered with talent QB depth chart.
He may simply want a more clear line of site to playing time.
December 17th, 2022 at 12:32 PM ^
That QB was 2023 though. Still nobody else in his class. Would be unlike OSU to skip a class.
December 17th, 2022 at 12:35 PM ^
I think OSU took that QB because they knew this decommitment was coming. The timing can't be a coincidence.
December 17th, 2022 at 1:12 PM ^
They had a 2023 qb before who de committed and so then they just filled that again with the new 2023 guy.
December 17th, 2022 at 1:23 PM ^
McCord and Kleinholz isn't exactly crowded. Both are statues.
December 17th, 2022 at 2:20 PM ^
Hopefully this is the advantage we can offer Jadyn over OSU is that he essentially has the starting gig at Michigan if he works hard compared to OSU since we’re not taking a QB in 2023
December 17th, 2022 at 2:53 PM ^
McCarthy likely goes pro after next year leaving a talented walk on and two kids likely not see the field as full time starters at UofM.
It does not get much cleaner for a five star to step in and lead an elite program.
December 17th, 2022 at 12:35 PM ^
Good news, but I’m not believing the #1 recruit is going to Nebraska because his uncle coaches there. I don’t know anything about it, but it just seems like USC makes the most sense. Lincoln Riley, multiple Heisman QBs, close to home, etc.
December 17th, 2022 at 12:45 PM ^
He was going there before OSU, but Frost fucked up his recruitment beyond comprehension. He's a huge Nebraska guy.
December 17th, 2022 at 1:11 PM ^
Yeah, i read the same thing awhile back but Jesus, it's still Nebraska. USC would make more sense
December 17th, 2022 at 3:20 PM ^
Maybe he hopes to be Nebraska’s Graham Mertz?
December 17th, 2022 at 3:31 PM ^
Looked him up and his dad is former Husker and Lion Dominic Raiola. Makes total sense that he would go to Nebraska. With Rhule, Fickell and Bert, along with McNanamara and All to Iowa I’m rooting for a big ten west revival.

This will be an appropriate response to many tales of schadenfreude and woe as the years wear on.
December 17th, 2022 at 1:34 PM ^
for at least 5 - 7 years
December 17th, 2022 at 12:36 PM ^
Time to check in 11 warriors. This will be the complete meltdown. They were complaining all last week before decommits. Imagine this. Go Blue!
December 17th, 2022 at 12:36 PM ^
He's Dominic Raiola's kid, so no surprise he's considering Nebraska (his dad's alma mater).
December 17th, 2022 at 12:37 PM ^
Obviously a big loss for OSU, who have been taking some L's recently. But I'm also of the mindset that with the transfer portal a team can survive missing on a QB for a cycle or two and filling in a gap. That said, UM would be good to close on Davis soon.
December 17th, 2022 at 12:38 PM ^
That's a big recruiting win for Nebraska if that happens. The B1G will be really tough in a few years once Wisconsin and Nebraska get back on their feet while adding USC/UCLA.
Really have to hope we can lock down Davis, since I would get the appeal of going to OSU as a QB since you'll throw the ball all the time.
December 17th, 2022 at 12:48 PM ^
I don’t trust non mobile QBs until they show it in college. Everybody thought DJ at Clemson was can’t miss. Drew Allar looks kinda meh. Who was the last statue QB to have success in college?
December 17th, 2022 at 1:16 PM ^
Stroud based on the fact he refuses to run would be my pick.
December 17th, 2022 at 1:25 PM ^
and two losses to UM doesn't make him a big hit.
December 17th, 2022 at 1:39 PM ^
I would argue it makes him a huge hit, at least to me..
December 17th, 2022 at 1:42 PM ^
He is to us!
December 18th, 2022 at 12:05 PM ^
Stroud should be our favorite QB at that Ohio school for some time. A bunch of Heisman buzz going into the game two years in a row and lost both, taking him out of the race. Oh and by the way he never beat us.
December 18th, 2022 at 6:23 PM ^
Mac Jones, Cardale Jones, CJ Stroud. Mobility is a bonus for sure but innate timing, accuracy, arm strength and leadership under pressure are the pre requisites you look for first.
December 17th, 2022 at 12:45 PM ^
Great news! 😁
December 17th, 2022 at 12:55 PM ^
So osu is going back in on Davis? There’s a reason why he hasn’t committed and it’s been well noted forever now that “JD comin”. We really should circle our wagon back to Moore…
December 17th, 2022 at 1:04 PM ^
I agree I don’t think he is as solid with Oregon any longer. I know Sam has said the staff is in a pickle because of they go back in it with Moore that would negatively impact recruiting Davis.
December 17th, 2022 at 1:12 PM ^
Didn’t Oregon OC take a head coaching position in Arizona? I think with ASU.
December 17th, 2022 at 1:18 PM ^
I think you take your chances. If Davis wanted to commit, he would’ve. All the signs have been pointing for him to commit to Michigan soon and yet nothing. He’s waiting for something and it’s not Michigan. We can’t keep getting played.. at some point we have to say enough is enough
December 17th, 2022 at 1:47 PM ^
There is a reason for concern but you are being downer. Give it time. JD is 2024.
December 17th, 2022 at 1:53 PM ^
Yeah, still a long way to go and there will be a handful of national HS QBs who will eventually shine in their senior years - 2024 - that will shoot up in the rankings
December 17th, 2022 at 1:01 PM ^
Sooooooo sorry to hear that, Ryan. Maybe next decade.
