Unverified Voracity Alonzo Mournings All of It
Scheduling Note: I popped back from a gnarly flu to discover I'm the only able person standing to care for a house full of people with the flu. Defense UFR will have to wait until next week, sorry.
Event Note: Saturday night we're watching the game at Venue (where Lucky's used to be, and where the MGoPodcast now records). You can reserve a table or squeeze in—our guests get Happy Hour pricing. Here's the menu.
Blake Corum had surgery. We already guessed Michigan is probably going to be without Corum on Saturday, given it didn't work out against Ohio State, and the Great and Official Big Ten Championship Game doesn't hold a candle to the de facto one. Whether he's done for the year is a lot less clear, and currently the subject of an online battle between Michigan insiders and [checks notes] an the NFL guy.
Just a hunch — you haven't seen the last of Blake Corum this season. #GoBlue https://t.co/JqGVqWYnMk
— Chris Balas (@Balas_Wolverine) December 1, 2022
I interpret this to mean Corum had a simple scope and was told six weeks, which to some people means "that's after the season's over" and to others means "if Michigan's playing for the national championship and it's a week early I wouldn't count him out." Both are reasonable.
Mazi Smith had a gun, the internet had a fit.
[Patrick Barron]
Around 10am yesterday morning the Detroit Free Press broke the story that Smith was facing a felony weapon charge. The story didn't have any more than MiCOURT record, which at that moment showed the offense was a felony carrying concealed weapons charge on October 7, and the charge was filed on November 30. That was the full extent of information until Michigan put out a statement around 1PM saying they're aware but they're not suspending him.
Smith's arraignment was held (and streamed live) a little before 2PM, whence his attorney explained Smith was carrying his own gun and was in the process of attaining his license when he was pulled over. The judge gave him permission to leave the state to travel with his team and set his next hearing for December 8 over zoom. Via Josh Henschke($), Smith bought the gun himself, took all the training, and licensed it properly, but his application wasn't approved until a few days after the traffic stop.
Via his and my own source, Michigan expects the system to play out and for the charges to be dropped.
People wondered why it took the rest of October and all of November to issue the charge—EMU's Emoni Bates was issued two weapons charges (ultimately dropped) within a day of his arrest in September—but Washtenaw County Prosecuting Attorney Eli Savit told Angelique the "timeline for charging on this case was unremarkable."
"The incident involving Mr. Smith occurred on Oct. 7. He was not arrested at the scene, and we received a police report on Oct. 14. We approved the request for charges on Nov. 17, and the warrant was 'sworn out' before a magistrate this week. … If a defendant is in custody (arrested at the scene), we need to process cases faster, within 48 hours, and we have a separate queue set up to review in-custody cases. But when a defendant is not in custody, authorization of charges generally moves slower, and the timeline here was not remarkable."
So yeah, seems like there's not much to see here. That didn't stop certain deranged fans of recently disgraced athletics programs from going full CONSPIRACY!!!! on the office investigating the case of the 21-year-old who carried his gun before the wheels of the DMV turned, and the case of the team that cornered two opponents after a loss and beat the shit out of them:
It took less than a month for the Washtenaw County Prosecutor's Office to issue charges to seven MSU players following the tunnel incident. It sat on the Mazi Smith charges for nearly seven weeks.
— Tony Paul (@TonyPaul1984) December 1, 2022
Waiting for explanation from the prosecutor and Michigan football. https://t.co/GuvoZBTOcp
The lesson here is if there isn't much information, wait for or go find more information. People hear "felony" and freak out, but anyone who isn't (like me) a naïve suburbanite who's never worked in the criminal justice system can tell you a "felony" gun charge in Michigan usually doesn't mean what you think it means. Bates had a family friend's gun with the serial number scratched off, and both of those charges were dropped. Seems like this will be as well.
[After THE JUMP: a little more roster news]
Good fit, let's not talk about their pass pro. Exit Cade McNamara to Iowa.
Be their Rudock. [Bryan Fuller]
It was inevitable after McCarthy won the battle of the nonconference schedule so weak Harbaugh literally used it to stage an official quarterback battle. It's also nice to see the former Michigan captain and Big Ten Champion go to a program that doesn't play Michigan, unless they meet in the conference title game again. This is the setup for what might be the most good-willed transfer away in college football history. Gonna be two whole stadiums rooting for the Hawks next year.
Hopefully the Hawkeyes can shore up their pass protection issues because he's a perfect fit for the kind offense Iowa should be running, as well as the one they actually run. He also might help them with that protection—Cade's superpower, at least before this year, is pre-snap reads and knowing where to put the ball safely. Speeding up the decision-making should take some pressure off the Iowa line and give them a chance to find someone other than a tight end.
Bigger than football. Purdue quarterback Aidan O'Connell found out his brother died before the Indiana game last week. Michigan fans spent Giving Tuesday firing the money cannon:
Today, we are humbled by the goodwill of numerous Michigan fans who donated $16 to Boilermaker Alliance to honor #16 Aidan O’Connell and his brother.
— Boilermaker Alliance (@BoilerAlliance) November 30, 2022
Humanity has triumphed over rivalry and our hearts are full of gratitude.
#GivingTuesday #GoBlue #BoilerUp #ThankYou pic.twitter.com/qhigph6Aew
The group announced they'll be donating all the funds received to a charity of the O'Connell family's choosing. Aidan has been with his family since the end of last week's game so his status for the BTCG is unclear.
Today in people not appreciating Mikey Sainristil enough. End of regular season means awards roundup!
Someone in the media paid attention! [Barron]

Michigan's honorable mentions were Karsen Barnhart, Gemon Green, Kris Jenkins, Mike Sainristil, Jaylen Harrell (media), Makari Paige (media), and Rod Moore (media). The media also moved Keegan, Hayes, Turner, and Colson down a notch, and dropped Barrett and Schoon to HM.
The only really glaring thing in there Mike Sainristil not getting the love—how anyone could watch The Game and decide an Ohio State safety goes on the list over Michigan's nickel is beyond me, and it's not like Sainristil wasn't playing at that level all year. The other thing that rankles is not giving Brad Robbins his due among the greatest punting class since the Big Ten claimed the play as its own. Olu also won the Big Ten's sportsmanship award. Corum was top back. Harbaugh was the coach of the year.
A bunch of players were named finalists for various national awards:
- Blake Corum is a finalist for the Doak, and probably the favorite.
- Moody was named to defend his Groza. By the way he leads the nation in scoring (131 points) and is 7 shy of Desmond Howard's school record.
- The reigning Joe Moore Award-winning OL is also a repeat finalist.
- Jesse Minter is a finalist for the Broyles Award after Harbaugh learned he can't nominate his strength coach. Minter's name is also one of those being considered by Cincinnati, since the name "Minter" carries there the way "Carr" might in A-town.
- Olu Oluwatimi is an Outland Finalist. The Rimington hasn't announce its circle yet but he's a lock for that too.
- Ronnie Bell is one of 15 for the Comeback Player of the Year. Mo Ibrahim and Michael Penix Jr. are on there too so don't get your hopes up.
Mason Graham and Will Johnson made PFF's Freshman All-America team. Also Blake Corum was their #1 RB with a 95.9 grade. Donovan Edwards was 8th. Former Wolverine Zach Charbonnet (4th) and former commit Eric Gray (7th) also made the top ten. Also in not-as-subjective things that PFF knows: Michigan's defense is #1 in the nation at tackling.
So obvious the Big Ten couldn't get it wrong either. The powers that be finished their investigations into the Spartan Tunnel Assault and unsurprisingly found the athletes who cornered and criminally assaulted two opponents in a tunnel responsible, not the tunnel. Washtenaw County announced a felony assault charge against Khary Crump, who was the player swinging his helmet at Green's head, and misdemeanor assault charges on six of the other seven players MSU suspended after the incident (the remaining player was reinstated).
MSU was fined $100,000, the largest ever levied by the conference, as a repeat offender. They upped the suspension for Crump to eight games into next year, and called the rest of MSU's now-served four-game suspension decisions appropriate. MSU also had a staffer tagged for sportsmanship, but did not name the staffer, calling his role "sufficiently addressed by Michigan State University." Since all of the named players but Crump had already served those suspensions, MSU immediately reinstated the players. Since they didn't make a bowl game, the matter's moot.
Michigan was dinged for a fan being able to touch Mel Tucker's head, as Warde Manuel explained in the report:
"We accept the Big Ten Conference’s findings in full. The conference office’s reprimand of U-M was in response to a fan making physical contact with the MSU coach - which is wholly unacceptable. The offender was quickly identified and swiftly ejected from the Stadium by our Event Team. In addition, to reduce the possibility of future incidents, we proactively implemented changes ahead of our final home game by increasing security personnel in areas around the playing surface. Security and procedural reviews will remain a constant focal point of future event planning and reviews.
This was enough for national headline writers to include Michigan among the disciplined, though at least on ringleader of MSU's manifest grievance culture recognized the difference between reprimand and punishment:
Tom Izzo said he is "completely upset" about the Big Ten's decision to fine Michigan State $100,000 and issue Michigan a public reprimand for the tunnel incident. Emphasized he doesn't condone MSU players' actions but criticized UM's management of the tunnel pic.twitter.com/gyLxAoFvma
— Kyle Austin (@kylebaustin) November 28, 2022
By "How those players ran in there" and "the two player that ran in there" he means Green and McBurrows. Izzo, the most recognizable person at the school, then referenced the last time MSU was fined for its football players attacking Michigan players--Dantonio's march. So no, I don't expect the culture to change soon. Izzo should get a reprimand though.
The seven players facing charges met the court this week. Washtenaw County justice tends to go heavy on the charges and easy on the pleas, so I expect, unless the two who hired a crackpot lawyer from California follow through with attempts to blame the victims, that the players will end up with sentences far below what it looks like now.
MSU's going through a whole thing at the top, so opaque statements by the interim president aren't worth parsing to see whether they get that their athletic culture plays well at RCMB but is becoming an embarrassment to the school, and a hazard to the objects of their hate programming. One thing that won't happen, despite some support inside Michigan, is having the conference separate us from playing every year when they remake the schedule with USC/UCLA. Even when one or both teams are bad, that game is a tentpole stadium-filler.
December 2nd, 2022 at 12:46 PM ^
I was always in the belief that Cade would pick a place closer to home (just sentiment speculation) and that a PAC12 team would be interested (UW and UCLA come to mind).
This is an interesting transfer, but I would have thought he would have had better options to chose from.
December 2nd, 2022 at 12:26 PM ^
Illinois would have been perfect. Heck, he's from Nevada, is there not one Pac 12 team that would want him?
My assumption in these cases is, the person making the decision has a lot more information than I have, or probably ever will. We'll see how it goes.
December 2nd, 2022 at 10:28 AM ^
Awesome to see that Chuck Filiaga was successfully able to transfer AND find playing time, AND make it to 3rd team above!
I had to google to remember how that happened, so, relevant article:
On the pessimist side, guess we should be getting used to seeing this, though. Feels weird currently.
December 2nd, 2022 at 10:33 AM ^
What's funny about MSU in general is that locally they fight tooth-and-nail to be taken seriously and not look like a 2nd-rate sports department but nationally they mostly come across as a joke. I was at Thanksgiving in a nearby coastal state and various unrelated family members, who barely follow college sports, off-handedly mentioned they heard about the MSU attack in the tunnel and if I knew anything else about it because it seemed crazy that it happened. It had apparently filtered to whatever news program they saw or read about in WaPo. Michigan has a reputation for being a good school that wins a lot of football games; MSU is somewhat known for their basketball team but otherwise is pretty unremarkable and mediocre. So when they fight this hard to spin whatever QAnon-esque story they feel needs to be heard it mostly falls on deaf ears.
As for the Smith's gun situation I think this is yet another reminder to people who haven't interacted with the legal system much just how different/slow it is compared to what you see on TV and movies. It triages the shit out of things and a non-violent registration offense is so low on the totem pole they aren't going to waste their time until they absolutely need to. The fact that MSU fans seems shocked this was handled the way it was, and that is somehow different than a record of 8 guys smashing two people with helmets and cleats, is more an indictment of the stupidity radiating from East Lansing than some grand conspiracy.
December 2nd, 2022 at 10:33 AM ^
Surprised Cade didn’t hold out for Wisconsin to see if they had interest. They need to move on from Mertz and playing for Fickell seems higher upside than the Fightin’ Ferentzes
December 2nd, 2022 at 10:46 AM ^
I'm also a little shocked at the Iowa choice. Considering his performance last year, you'd think he no shortage of choices, so seems a bit odd that he picked on that has been universally panned for their exceedingly mediocre offense and grossly inept offensive coordinator.
Guess he figured that with that defense, if he can help them move from 130th best offense to 90th best, they can win the West?
December 2nd, 2022 at 12:06 PM ^
I thank Cade for everything he did for our team, but I think the notion that he had a wide variety of transfer destination choices (where he'd almost be guaranteed a starting position) is misguided.
He has limitations, which have been well-documented here on MGoBlog.
Most teams want a QB who can be a running threat or who can take off and run.
Or, alternatively, if the QB doesn't have running skills, he needs to be able to make all of the throws...and have great arm strength.
I felt all last year that Cade is a "B+"...and was certainly good enough for last year's team as it was constructed.
That type of QB probably isn't going to have an unlimited number of transfer options in today's college football environment.
December 2nd, 2022 at 1:45 PM ^
…would have to think near-unlimited choices in the Big10 West, though, right?
December 2nd, 2022 at 10:36 AM ^
If new security measures were in place and included refusing entry to anyone smelling of cheap beer and/or ping pong balls gently dipped in cheap beer, that could account for why the student section looked so thin for the Illinois game.
December 2nd, 2022 at 10:42 AM ^
It should be noted that PFF’s year- end accolades retain the baffling bias against the UM Oline. Look at this list: https://www.pff.com/news/college-football-2022-pff-all-america-team-caleb-williams-bijan-robinson
No Wolverines in the top 3 teams and only Zinter as an honorable mention. No Olu anywhere?!? Idk what is up with PFF this year but just watch the damn games and you’ll know Olu is at least as good or better as their 3rd team selection, OSUs Luke Wypler.
December 2nd, 2022 at 1:10 PM ^
Its gotta be like what I think Brian said on the podcast one time- PFF does a lot of things well but clearly they can't dig into OL grading that much because none of their grading makes any sense

Could the Mgoorthopedicsurgeon forum please convene and discuss in the public mgoblog sphere what could possibly be Blake's injury, based on all available evidence?
Here's what I know we know:
In the first half of the Illinois game he banged his knee on the helmet of another player .
He went to the locker room for imaging and an evaluation and popped back out on the field after halftime and did some time on the bike, tested his cutting ability and did not play.
He put in hours on the training table in the ensuing week leading up to The Game.
He played two snaps in Michigan's first series of The Game and jogged gingerly to the sideline after the second and did not return.
He tweeted during the recent week that he was working the problem in rehab.
Somebody announces that he's had surgery and is "done for the year".
What kind of injury could this be?
December 2nd, 2022 at 11:40 AM ^
FWIW (as a patient not as a doctor) I get the impression that there are a lot of knee conditions where surgery is an option but not normally the first line of treatment. Instead you have the option to rehab it for a few weeks to see how it goes / see if the pain is manageable and only if it doesn’t improve do you move on to a surgical intervention.
But once you have surgery there is going to be some nontrivial downtime for healing and rehab.
Some sort of meniscus tear would be the most common issue I think.
December 2nd, 2022 at 10:47 AM ^
I love the fact that the all-B1G teams include two "RB" spots, all of which are tailbacks, and only two WR spots. Almost half the starting RBs in the B1G made an all-B1G team! And on defense, there are three LB spots and only four DB spots.
I guess it's not surprising that the B1G hasn't changed in 20+ years...
December 2nd, 2022 at 10:58 AM ^
The All American team does the same thing; they have 12 offensive players (including 2 RBs and 3 WRs plus a TE) despite the fact that there are way more WRs who play at any time compared to RB. I mean, there's never a dearth of good skill position players but it is always funny when they have these illegal lineups being recognized as the "best" possible lineup you could field.
December 2nd, 2022 at 10:47 AM ^
I, too, am holding out hope that Corum will be back for the CFP. He played two snaps against OSU prior to which doctors had a full week to diagnose the issue and review the case with the coaching staff. If it was a serious knee issue he would not have played, nor would he have dressed. Ronnie Bell had a serious knee issue last season and we saw what transpired. Not the same case. Just using common sense. I am hopeful.
December 2nd, 2022 at 10:52 AM ^
I guess Albom wrote some typically moralizing piece (happily paywalled -- like Mr Burns, I'd rather have the dollar) that not suspending Mazi is a "bad look"...
... which is the laziest 'take' on such things because it's completely, inarguably subjective. I guess he's saying college programs should suspend anyone any time a bad faith rival fanbase *might* get upset about it? (And would still anyway if he were suspended...)
December 2nd, 2022 at 11:11 AM ^
Come now; I get that bashing Mitch Album is a popular sport here, but you should really read his article posted yesterday on the Saturday's B1G championship game that he attended, it's really quite good

"Cade's superpower, at least before this year, is pre-snap reads and knowing where to put the ball safely."
I was at the Iowa game.
McNamara's pre-snap read: "Holy shit, I'm gonna die."
Flings ball into the tenth row.
Here's hoping it's better for him next year. I'm pulling for him, except in that one game.
December 2nd, 2022 at 11:15 AM ^
If we make it to the NC, likely against Georgia, having Corum back would be beyond huge.
Edwards can blast through the open door that the O-Line knocks down, but Corum . . . can pick the lock himself.
December 2nd, 2022 at 11:16 AM ^
I felt sorry for McNamara this year. However, picking the team with the worst offensive coordinator in the country seems like a self-inflected wound.
December 2nd, 2022 at 11:17 AM ^
It's not like he does not have options.
It's a head-scratching "What's he doing with her??" kind of thing.

Bummer to read Cade described as "former Michigan captain." You're elected for the season and I wish he could have stuck around for the team to play for the 'chip.
December 2nd, 2022 at 11:27 AM ^
Glad Cade went to Iowa. Iowa and NW are the two teams I root for pretty much every game unless they are playing Michigan. Nice fans at both schools too. Hope Cade crushes and we see him next December. Legend for life in Ann Arbor.
December 2nd, 2022 at 11:40 AM ^
I keep hearing others say McBurrows and Green shouldn’t have been there and that the tunnel is the issue. How is it that the victims in the assault are somehow at fault? And this is not an issue with any other team- other teams walk out with Michigan players with no issues after the game. It’s the same as blaming the gun violence on the guns rather than the ones who use them for violence. No excuse for MSU players to swing their helmets on anyone. None.
December 2nd, 2022 at 12:18 PM ^
The MSU spin on Green and McB is just horribly biased..... or as they would say "bias"
FWIW - The only possible/reasonable thing involving ANY M player involvement that I have seen inferred on the tunnel incident was:
Green was heading up early with the opposing team (as usual) and McB was hurrying to walk with him (also common).
In the tunnel some MSU folks took the opportunity to give Green crap about getting toasted and/or benched to which Green took offense. (Will J. did play a lot of snaps in the 2nd half.)
Whether Gemon responded verbally i.e. "scoreboard", or pushed someone away it did not justify the helmet beating that followed nor what happened to McBurrows for (I assume) trying to intervene to defend Green.
(The pushing away of a taunting MSU player is the closest thing I can come up with to the "M started it" claims coming from that crackpot L.A. lawyer....... I believe that is commonly known as the "Karen -- he assaulted me!!" ploy.)

i feel terrible for corum. he deserves a chance to play on the biggest stage the sport has - he's clearly been the best back in football this year, but hasn't gotten nearly the attention he so clearly deservers.
as for us - next man up. in some regard, this is just an early start to next august, when corum is in an nfl training camp and we're wondering if edwards is ready to be all-B1G and if stokes / dunlap can pick up the rest (spoiler - yes, they all can. obviously. this is not a kenneth walker situation on any level).
i'm just assuming there's no chance corum comes back for a playoff game...and if he does somehow pull it off? my, my, my.
December 2nd, 2022 at 11:46 AM ^
Is Miyagi-san available?
Also, was Izzo asking what a reprimand is because he wasn't even reprimanded for assaulting his own player in their tunnel?
December 2nd, 2022 at 11:48 AM ^
So maybe I'm out of the loop on these things, but there would seem to be two issues with the Mazi thing (or, three if you're wondering why Warde and Jim just didn't put out an anodyne statement on 10/8):
1) why wasn't he arrested on the spot? He was driving without a license and didn't have a license for his weapon? Are those two things not illegal? I'm less interested in what Mazi did then why AAPD responded the way they did.
2) does a football player having a gun seem like a good idea when guns are banned on campus property? This isn't a gun rights issue, just a common sense one. Where exactly is he going with it, if presumably he spends 90% of his time on campus?
December 2nd, 2022 at 12:28 PM ^
There are too many variables unknown at this point, but it was probably because the officers did not believe he committed a felony. The weapon was registered, and Mazi was less than 48 hours away from having the concealed carry license. Everything here points to commonsense winning out by the cops. They realized the permit was still in the approval stage and confiscated the gun. But unless he committed a felony, there was no reason to arrest him. I can only imagine that the officers are shocked the DA charged him with a felony or even at all.
December 2nd, 2022 at 12:33 PM ^
I understood this to imply the "without a license" was referring to the CCW, not the automobile driving license. Poor phrasing either way.
December 2nd, 2022 at 3:18 PM ^
Basically he had the gun in the wrong part of the car (which would have been a fine part of the car in half the other states in the country) two days before he got the concealed carry permit that would have made it fine for the gun to be in that part of the car.
December 2nd, 2022 at 12:00 PM ^
Re Mazi Smith: It's not that many critics see a CONSPIRACY, Seth. That's spinning the issue. The issue is that Smith was cited for carrying a concealed weapon without a license -- and the program did and said nothing for two months. Evidently, this is mostly an administrative issue that will ultimately work itself out. But Smith did break the law, with a gun, and the fact that Michigan didn't discipline him in any way -- and didn't even disclose the incident -- is at least somewhat problematic for a program that likes to position itself as being about rules and doing the right thing. It all comes off as pretty hypocritical, and it's weird that you don't acknowledge that at all. If this were OSU or Sparty, you'd see it differently.
December 2nd, 2022 at 12:52 PM ^
I think you could be a little bit right. But if you take the scenario propounded by TruBluMich just above you there, and imagine that the higher ups said, "Well, he had done everything right and they may not even charge him," then you can see why they would wait to see if anything actually came of it.
December 2nd, 2022 at 12:59 PM ^
That's not true. This isn't the first or third time a Big Ten player's had a gun-related infraction and this is the first time I bothered to write it up I think. So with the rest you just have to go on decisions. Did I include gun charges in the litany of things Dantonio's angels got off for?
If you're 21 and you took all the classes for your CWP and applied for your license and there's no Earthly reason to expect they're not going to send it to you, this to me is no different than having a beer before your new driver's license arrives.
So then what did Mazi do? Get a traffic stop? You want a statement from the university for every one of those? The whole thing's a big nothingburger.
December 2nd, 2022 at 12:24 PM ^
Minter's name is also one of those being considered by Cincinnati, since the name "Minter" carries there the way "Carr" might in A-town
The elder Minter went 53-63-1 and got fired. I'm not sure his name has too much cachet. They've had several more successful coaches since.
December 2nd, 2022 at 1:03 PM ^
For Cincy that's pretty good. You don't get to 53-63-1 in one season man.
December 2nd, 2022 at 2:24 PM ^
Fair enough, but at this point they've raised the bar and expect Kelly/Fickell-like results. Minter's tenure now doesn't look too hot.

Prosecutors Find UM Tunnel Not Responsible For Assault
Details at 10

There was no doubt that the outgoing MSU Prez, who would likely have been allowed to stay around into early next year, was quickly dumped the MONDAY (one day after the outgoing Prez's respectful and accountable remorse for what happened in the tunnel). The cryptic wording on the latest press release from the interim, when parsed word for word, basically says - we're innocent when you compare what happened to our honorable tunnel patrol by those two renegades who stormed the tunnel and (supposedly) taunted us.
The only thing that will finally shake that school of the denial and hatred is a long run of humiliating Muddy Waters and Bobby Williams and John L Smith seasons. Without Spartan Bob giving them the one game. A run of 4-8, 5-7, and occasional 6-6 (with a bowl loss blowout to an SEC team) lasting four or five seasons might be what it takes. As long as Dantonio's still in the background, the hatred will continue. A future AD needs to push him completely out of the place.
As for Cade, glad we could pay back Iowa for the Jake loan - Jake made 2015 a good season and great bowl performance. He led us to our 1st win at PSU since 2006. Iowa usually has solid OLs. Not sure what happened this year, but I expect return to the norm for them and much better protection in 2023-24.
The Mazi situation quickly cleared up when all of the FACTS came out. JH and Warde did exactly the right thing here. And our AD will make sure that all athletes going forward know what happened and what not to do.
Who knows with Corum if he can make it back in time for a title game. This will mean we need Stokes to step up and rely a bit more on our passing attack, which I believe was always ready to have its day when called upon. The sad part was it was a complete fluke how he got hurt. As long as we get past Purdue, Stokes will have a lot of time in practice and film study to realize how close he has been to making the right cut and getting a big gainer. Those bowl practices will help us a lot. Plus, I like Gash out of the backfield. I don't think he's a butter fingers just because of the one drop vs. Illini. Expect to see some variation of that play either Saturday or in the Playoffs.

I knew it was a longshot to drop MSU from regular scheduling but I'm disappointed.
When rivalry "hate" becomes real hate, better to simply separate.

I’ve never had any bad feelings towards Iowa in any sport so I’ll be rooting for Cade to step up big time there and do well. Of course, my hope is that Michigan beats OSU again and wins the b1g again on their way to the cfp, again, but if that isn’t in the cards next year, the GO CADE! Can you imagine the legendary status he’d enjoy by taking two different teams to a b1g championship AND to the cfp? He’d never have to buy drinks or dinner ever again in pretty much two whole states, and a smattering of other places around the country.

Pretty proud of myself for this one, considering Trente Jones got injured halfway through, and Karsen Barnhart still got an HM.

How dare you try to shift blame away from that malevolent hell of a tunnel!

Michigan ought to ask the B1G to remove MSU as a protected rivalry game anyway, even if the B1G turns a blind eye and chooses $$$ instead — and if MSU has anything at all to say about it, offer to FedEx Paul Bunyan to them the next day if they care that much about it.
Maybe I’m just being truculent, but I can’t remember the last time Michigan had more to gain from playing that game than MSU — and this is twice their hate programming (perfect phrasing, Seth) has put player safety at risk. Until they fix their victimhood culture, it’s unfair to ask Michigan to play them any more often than a typical B1G team.
