Braiden McGregor Has Committed to Michigan Comment Count

The number one target on Michigan’s 2020 wish list has made Michigan a very happy staff. Defensive end Braiden McGregor tonight committed to Michigan over Notre Dame, plus Florida, Ohio State, and many more who thought to ask the Port Huron prospect.

As Lorenz said, this is a major victory for new defensive line coach Shaun Nua, who had to fend off, among others, Greg Mattison, who had helped lay the groundwork in a recruitment just about everyone from Harbaugh’s staff would be part of. Make no mistake: Notre Dame—the other school that’s been scouting as well as Michigan these last few years—wanted McGregor just as badly. Or maybe a tiny bit less badly. Like a droplet that can fit on your fingertip less badly.

While the guesses were heading 80-20 Michigan this week, Isaiah Hole of WolverineWire reported that the McGregor camp had gone quiet, and some of the crystal balls and whatnots were based on Notre Dame leaking that first.

The recruiting sites seem to agree he’s worth it. McGregor is currently the #4 strongside defensive end and #89 overall in the 247Composite, and the #3 SDE and 28th overall to 247. Rivals still has McGregor a 5.7 (high three-star), which has had poor Brandon Brown explaining “ad nauseum” to subscribers that it’s not going to stay that way. ESPN is even higher than 247, ranking Michigan’s newest pickup 26th overall, the #2 SDE, #2 in the Midwest, and #1 in the state. Those are five-star rankings if they hold.

A full commit post will be in the offing next week.

Somehow I reached this point and never watched his Hudl tape but he's a beast. He's an athletic freak and probably could be just as good of a TE prospect as a DE. Super excited for him. Just needs to put on a bit of weight and he is going to be a really good player

Random observation: You could easily drop McGregor and his sister (the person to his right in the picture, I'm guessing) into a cast of a "Braveheart" type of movie. They look like Scottish royalty.

Here's a great interview with Braiden. https://wolverineswire.usatoday.com/2019/05/24/michigan-football-recruiting-shaun-nua-braiden-mcgregor/

He throws shade at Mattison twice, with the quote below where he's talking about Shaun Nua.

“As soon as he got hired in I knew Michigan was going to be it, like for sure,” McGregor said. “He was just an awesome guy from the beginning. The first time getting to know him it was just, ‘Wow, OK — this guy’s gonna be my coach,’ like he’s just that awesome. Just the way he talks to you, it’s awesome.”

Then directly when he said Mattison going to Columbus hurt OSU's chances.

Sweet!

Y'all had me sweating.

Regardless of what some would say, it is imperative for UM to lockdown the top in-state talent that can hack it academically and are a fit for the program.

A lot of hype on rivals for a 3 star. I don't follow recruiting much well anymore. When we go 10-3 again some of the top ones will leave or transfer a year later. How much longer does Jim have here? Maybe he turns it around this year but I doubt it.
