Braiden McGregor Has Committed to Michigan
The number one target on Michigan’s 2020 wish list has made Michigan a very happy staff. Defensive end Braiden McGregor tonight committed to Michigan over Notre Dame, plus Florida, Ohio State, and many more who thought to ask the Port Huron prospect.
BREAKING: #Michigan beats Notre Dame, Florida and others for four-star Braiden McGregor; strongly believe he's]the top overall target on #Michigan's 2020 board. Huge win for @CoachNua, @Coach_SMoore and company: https://t.co/fWq03fCYkH pic.twitter.com/AcWU2l6G3P
— Steve Lorenz (@TremendousUM) May 24, 2019
As Lorenz said, this is a major victory for new defensive line coach Shaun Nua, who had to fend off, among others, Greg Mattison, who had helped lay the groundwork in a recruitment just about everyone from Harbaugh’s staff would be part of. Make no mistake: Notre Dame—the other school that’s been scouting as well as Michigan these last few years—wanted McGregor just as badly. Or maybe a tiny bit less badly. Like a droplet that can fit on your fingertip less badly.
While the guesses were heading 80-20 Michigan this week, Isaiah Hole of WolverineWire reported that the McGregor camp had gone quiet, and some of the crystal balls and whatnots were based on Notre Dame leaking that first.
The recruiting sites seem to agree he’s worth it. McGregor is currently the #4 strongside defensive end and #89 overall in the 247Composite, and the #3 SDE and 28th overall to 247. Rivals still has McGregor a 5.7 (high three-star), which has had poor Brandon Brown explaining “ad nauseum” to subscribers that it’s not going to stay that way. ESPN is even higher than 247, ranking Michigan’s newest pickup 26th overall, the #2 SDE, #2 in the Midwest, and #1 in the state. Those are five-star rankings if they hold.
A full commit post will be in the offing next week.
Welcome to Michigan Braiden!
Go Braiden, Go Blue!
Exciting pickup and a nice end to an eventful week.
Somehow I reached this point and never watched his Hudl tape but he's a beast. He's an athletic freak and probably could be just as good of a TE prospect as a DE. Super excited for him. Just needs to put on a bit of weight and he is going to be a really good player
His highlights are borderline insane: KOR for TD, DE, LB, chases down a RB sweep from the backside, gets to the QB like Uche, makes tough catches at WR (not TE).
Think I asked this question before: Who's the best Michigan player from Port Huron?
NOT Kelly Baraka, amirite ?
Baraka was from Portage (near Kalamazoo), not Port Huron.
Damn I'm old!
At my age Portage & Port Huron are interchangeable!
So then, what is the answer to the question? Who IS the best Port Huron Wolverine?
Here's his Hudl tape for those wondering: https://www.hudl.com/video/3/8012697/5bec95d3d45e6113bcc0be13
Welcome Braiden, way to GoBlue!
This is all of us in a few years speaking with butthurt buckeyes after McGregor gets some wins against them.
Not sure this analogy works..$ Mayweather owned Connor McGregor.
I was thinking the exact same thing, but whatever, I get his point.
So we’re gonna talk shit only for the Buckeyes to beat the living shit out of us?
Cuz that’s what Mayweather did to McGregor. Bad analogy.
The Juwan Howard effect. Seriously folks, I mean we are about to enter the Michigan re-renaissance for all sports. Going F-ING KILL IT. Go Blue !!!
Great call - Michigan is sexy again!
Gigantic - Michigan is getting a winner with this one. Great work by Nua and friends.
Keep the top notch recruits rolling!
its been a good week for news.
First Howard, Hill green then Sanderson and now McGregor! Nice way to start the weekend
Yaaaaaaayyyyy. Just yaaaaaaayyyyy.
Welcome, young man.
boom! Good end to week. Welcome young-man
So, you’re saying this is good news, very good news! Recruiting is looking very good so far.
Love it!! Go Blue!!!
Random observation: You could easily drop McGregor and his sister (the person to his right in the picture, I'm guessing) into a cast of a "Braveheart" type of movie. They look like Scottish royalty.
Can't wait to watch a fellow Port Huron native don the winged helmet!
Massive get, I must embarrassingly admit I was worried by the recent Notre Dame likes and retweets pointed out on here.
Here's a great interview with Braiden. https://wolverineswire.usatoday.com/2019/05/24/michigan-football-recruiting-shaun-nua-braiden-mcgregor/
He throws shade at Mattison twice, with the quote below where he's talking about Shaun Nua.
“As soon as he got hired in I knew Michigan was going to be it, like for sure,” McGregor said. “He was just an awesome guy from the beginning. The first time getting to know him it was just, ‘Wow, OK — this guy’s gonna be my coach,’ like he’s just that awesome. Just the way he talks to you, it’s awesome.”
Then directly when he said Mattison going to Columbus hurt OSU's chances.
Congrats to Braiden. Excellent player and family
Sweet!
Y'all had me sweating.
Regardless of what some would say, it is imperative for UM to lockdown the top in-state talent that can hack it academically and are a fit for the program.
Welcome! Look forward to watching the McGregor jersey simply destroy QB's and RB's.
What a great week, 2 strong football commitments, Juwan is hired and due to my connections the contracting firm i work for landed a big contract with a great commission for me, fuck yeah!!!!!
Oh yeah, the baseball team looks back on track!
Go Blue !!!!!
Great work by the staff. Welcome young man! Look forward to watching you take the field on Saturdays.
A lot of hype on rivals for a 3 star. I don't follow recruiting much well anymore. When we go 10-3 again some of the top ones will leave or transfer a year later. How much longer does Jim have here? Maybe he turns it around this year but I doubt it.
Do I get to watch the highlights now? Or should I still not watch this?
Some quality time with Mrs. Paisano this morning (if you know what I mean) and then this! This Saturday is shaping up to be darn good.
Welcome Braiden
Fantastic news! Welcome Aboard!
