Awful Announcing Crew for Michigan @ Maryland 2017
Here is the announcing crew for Michigan @ Maryland, as well as other games, tomorrow:
http://awfulannouncing.com/schedules/2017-week-11-college-football-announcing-schedule.html
3:30 PM- Michigan at Maryland (BTN) Brandon Gaudin, Glen Mason, Elise Menaker
Brandon Gaudin:
Glen Mason:
Elise Menaker:
I could be wrong but this might be one of the first games I've heard Brandon Gaudin.
I think Gaudin does a decent enough job. Here is one example of his work: GaTech @ Pitt from 2013
Probably an improvement in an otherwise talentless industry as of late, at least at the college football level.
MSU @ Ohio State gets Brady Quinn, so yay!?

Or Tony Romo's falsetto

I've never understood the need for celebrity sports announcers. Most of them are barely capable of stringing together coherent sentences. Nobody that NEEDS announcers has any idea who they are and the people that do know who they are don't tend to want to hear them ramble on like morons anyway.
I'd love to have a bunch of people capable of doing their jobs correctly who have never played a second of the sport they are announcing rather than some washed up line backer who gets all the facts wrong, can barely keep up with a play by play, and generally makes an ass of himself.

There are a handful of good ones. John Smoltz is pretty interesting. Jim Price, while never a celebrity, is a solid broadcaster. Joe Garagiola had a solid broadcast career. Jim Brandstatter, while a pretty poor play by play guy, was always enjoyable as a color man.

when I'm listening to a game on the radio and Brandstatter is getting really annoying I just mute it.
But I find it difficult to follow the game that way.

Homer's make the best announcers, especially when you can listen to them.

Jim is okay as an analyst, I guess, though I would argue it's time to bring on a young guy like maybe Jon Jansen. As PBP Brandy absolutely sucks and is an embarrassment. Shrill, out of control, not good at describing what is happening on the field. Major black hole in the program that they don't hire a professional play by play announcer at the University of Michigan.

So true. If you get an ex-jock who is doing color and really brings something to the table (Collingsworth, whatever else you think of him). Otherwise, please let people do this who are good at it.

I usually mute tv or mute tv and stream Brandy.
November 11th, 2017 at 8:04 AM ^
We have tried to mute TV and play radio for Michigan games but the plays aren't in sync. One or the other is a play ahead or a play behind.

Honestly - BTN should give Leman more work on higher-profile games. He's legitimately pretty good.
Mason isn't awful, but he isn't really good either.
Millen is putrid. Ugh.

No idea who the hell they are.
November 11th, 2017 at 10:10 AM ^
Glen Mason is horrible, which is to be expected from an OSU grad/former player. He's never happier than when UM is losing. I hope our team makes sure he's miserable all day.

Does the announcing team really impact your viewing experience that much? I'm not asking to be snarky - I just cannot remember a game where I finished watching and thought about the announcing team (whether good or bad).

I thought Tim Brando called a good game, best I heard all year.
November 11th, 2017 at 10:49 AM ^
Agreed, Brando did a good job save for some pronouncing names. Especially considering him trying to call out Harbaugh earlier this year.

Has there ever been a game broadcast crew that this board liked?
Not saying that tomorrow's crew (or any crew in particular) is good.
Just curious.
November 10th, 2017 at 10:28 PM ^
Keith Jackson and Bob Griese.
November 10th, 2017 at 10:32 PM ^
Gotta admit that is the benchmark.
November 10th, 2017 at 10:57 PM ^
This is part of the problem. Jackson was such a legend that most of the other guys sound like crap in comparison.
I did like Mike Tirico though. I wish he still called college football games.
