Hassan Haskins Has Committed to Michigan
Hope you like late-rising bruisebacks, because Michigan just got one out of Missouri:

The Michigan offer came early this month and presaged others as several Big Ten teams were sniffing around the senior putting up ludicrous stats (over 1800 yards, 30 TDs so far) this year. Quick Hudl review shows a big guy with ridiculous balance and power—think Kareem Walker, or Gus Edwards, the Rutgers RB who impressed us last week.
Informative update cometh tomorrow.

I didn't see much of the Rutgers-UM game, so I can only go on the stats but why are people impressed with a RB who averaged 2.8 ypc with a long of 5 yards? I expect most here would be...displeased...if a UM RB put up those kind of numbers.

Imagine most of those carries starting with Gary and Hurst converging on him in the backfield.

He got those 3 yards every damn time.
Even when we stacked the entire team against him in the red zone. Didn't matter.
Dude was a truck.

Until Ace can get a full profile up:
Scout | Rivals | ESPN | 247 | 247 Comp |
3*, #110 RB, #NR Ovr |
2*, #NR RB, #NR Ovr |
NR, #NR RB, #NR Ovr |
3*, 92, #83 RB, #1310 Ovr |
3*, #95 RB, #1555 Ovr |
Correct me if I'm wrong, I haven't had the best luck using Scouts website since they merged with 247Sports.

Take a last look at these rankings. They won't stay like this.
It's literally impossible for Jim Harbaugh to sign a 2 star. Whoever he signs will be bumped up to at least a high 3 star no matter what.
He could sign my grandmother and she'd be a 3 star. And she's really not that fast.

She gotta be solid there, amirite?

of lesser football players. Some of those runs and downfield blocks looked painful for those on the receiving end.
October 29th, 2017 at 9:49 PM ^
I didn't see anything that indicated ridiculous balance. I just watched his entire junior highlights, and there were two or three runs where he did a good job of staying upright. "Ridiculous" is a bit of hyperbole.
Having said that, Haskins runs very hard through contact and breaks a lot of tackles; somebody said on the other thread that he goes down on arm tackles, and that's a crock if his junior highlights are any indication. He's good at changing directions in tight traffic, which means he can squeeze extra yards out of situations where other RBs just plow straight ahead into a tackle. He's not a burner who will hit the long home run very often, but rather a reliable, chain-moving back who always gets positive yardage.

Which also happens to be pacing the long run by Haskins. It's basically proof that Haskins has a top speed of 45 mph.

From what I remember when he first got his offer, some schools were sniffing around over the summer but he had work to do in the classroom. He did that work and Michigan subsequently offered.

recruitment.
Why is his offer list not more impressive? Why is he only the no. 95 composite RB, and only the no. 15 overall HS recruit in Missouri, per 247?
He had over 1900 rushing yards this year, and over 9 YPC average.
Not saying that should make him the next Leonard Fournette, but those are good numbers for a guy ranked 95th RB and 15th overall player in his state.
His team finished 11-0, won its conference, and was ranked 6th overall in Missouri, so it is not like he is playing on some terrible team with no decent opponents.
Does not add up.

He's equipped with an invisibility recruiting cloak.
October 29th, 2017 at 10:01 PM ^
If I had to guess, it is probably becasue of his measureables. He's got decent size, but not exactly the biggest at 6'1" ~195lbs, and doesn't really have elite speed with a 4.74-40.
October 29th, 2017 at 10:12 PM ^
a top 15 RB. Does not justify being at no. 95.
Also, there is some conflict on his 40 time, with other sites showing a better time. On hos weight, others show him at 205. Either way, 195-205 is not a reason that he has to be pushed all the way down to no. 95.
Not saying that he is going to awsome or that he will be terrible.
Just saying that no. 95 seems way too low, just based on his rushing yards, YPC, etc.
Does not really add up.

I'm not sure what level his school is, but might not be that hard to rack up those kinds of yards where he's playing.
Usually an offer list is about as good an indicator of talent/potential as it gets for high schoolers because those are endorsements from actual college coaches.. Much more informative than stats.

yards and 29 TDs is they are not very good. His HS team is ranked no. 6 in Missouri this year.
Again, 1900 yards does not mean he should be a high 4 star. But it does not fit with the offer list and no. 95 247 composite RB ranking.
And while the offer list 'usually' (your word) is a good indicator, it is not always a good indicator.
That is why this does not add up. 1900 yards and 29 TDs on the no. 6 ranked team in Missouri does not add up to no. 95 RB ranking.

Granted it's against other high school kids but he shows nice instrincts as far as setting up and following blocks. He'll put on some additional weight/strength once he gets here and should be a useful RB.
Sorry about the double post.

open up a St. Louis “pipeline”. Is there something special there that Michigan has missed out on in the past?
October 29th, 2017 at 10:48 PM ^
Missouri is something like the #8th most popular state for NFL players to come from. It's a (surprisingly) talent rich state, with an in state school (Mizzou) that's terrible, and Michigan is highly interested in at least three top 100 kids for 2019 from the state, plus several from the 2018 cycle including Michael Thompson, a top DT.
Could be a 2016 New Jersey recruiting situation if Michigan can pull it off.
October 30th, 2017 at 11:36 AM ^
Mizzou is in a tailspin. Both football and academic enrollment side.
If we can pounce on the state while it's weak we may be able to cherry pick the biggest stars for years to come.
Being in STL I could ramble off a few other things or why they are but it'd just be tl:dr.
