John Beilein appreciation thread

If hookers and $100,000 is the price we have to pay to close with the biggest recruits, I'll pass. I love John Beilein for never sacrificing an ounce of integrity.

It's a good internet joke (accepting all the bribery and hookers, etc.) But I guess all of us have to ask, what would I do if I was offered that opportunity? Would I accept, or just say no? I've never been offered the money, so I wouldn't know about that. As for the other, it isn't my world, for the most part, so I'm ignorant. Still, many of us have a price.

You state
I guess all of us have to ask, what would I do if I was offered that opportunity? Would I accept, or just say no?
Why do we have to do that?

It's human nature (not applicable to everyone here).

as in poster thinks we REALLY REALLY SHOULD.
(as an exercise in empathy / slowing the rush to judgment, duh).
Not odd at all, Everyone Murders. Kinda like pointing out we're all, on some level, cannibalistic... Did i miss an /s ?

I call dibs on the $100k hookers. At my age, she'd probably kill me, but at least I'll go out with a smile on my face.

Almost like there's a moral lesson in here somewhere.
September 26th, 2017 at 6:04 PM ^
to see what happens if (and it's a big if) this slows down the money train in college BB, and Beilein actually is able to compete for guys who would previously have been pay to play.
September 26th, 2017 at 6:10 PM ^
Mo Bamba will be mentioned by the end of this thing. We all thought it was weird that Bamba had to reach out to Bamba and not vice versa. I wonder why...
Then his brother brings up some possible shady dealings.
JB appreciation indeed.

had to reach out.
Fixed it for ya :)

It's a very good class, but these are all typical Beilein recruits. He wasn't up against UK, UNC, Duke, Kansas, Arizona for any of them. Add Barrett to this class and then I might agree we are profitng from the scandal. Although, I think most people were underestimating our chances with him.
The news seemed to take everyone by surprise. The FBI is good at keeping their investigations under wraps.
September 26th, 2017 at 6:14 PM ^
...not to be worried about the FBI investigation at all.
September 26th, 2017 at 6:15 PM ^
I hope the guys that were calling for Coach B to "get dirty" on the recruiting trail, just so we could level the playing field, now feel like complete idiots. Fortunately we have a coach with enough integrity to properly represent Michigan, even when it results in a possible talent deficit.
September 26th, 2017 at 6:19 PM ^
As does Carol Hutchins. Both are true credits to the University, though they may be lower key than other outstanding coaches here. You don't have to be outspoken to be classy. (IIRC, whenever there is a head coach search for any UM sport, one or both of these two are on the search committee.)
September 26th, 2017 at 6:24 PM ^
I've said this before and I'll say it again.
We have the best coach in America. He runs a clean program and He's a winner.
And for those who complain about recruiting, we have the #5 class in the country for 2018.
September 26th, 2017 at 6:29 PM ^
Nobody tell Stringer Bell about this thread! He'll have his #hottakes about Belein being washed up and how there are 10 or more coaches U of M should hire instead.....

"My daughter is annoying the crap out of me..."
Isn't that the short definition of the word "daughter?"
/And stop tracking mud across my nice clean floor!
September 26th, 2017 at 6:36 PM ^
the Michigan hoops program under Beilein and a mouse taking a shower have in common?
They both are squeaky clean.
My daughter told me the mouse one. JB is such a likeable nerd/grandpa figure, he would probably laugh at that.
He is a unique asset - not only a great coach, but a truly genuine, good human being and an amazing representative to the University of Michigan.

As a man, as a coach, as a mentor to Michigan's student athletes, and as an intense competitor. Great hire and a great face for our basketball program.
It's a shame that college basketball has gotten so dodgy that having a coach as squeaky clean as John Beilein is unusual. But it's great that we're not all watching the FBI-Adidas story and waiting for the other shoe to drop. We're just out stocking up on popcorn ... .

Also, props and thanks for Coach Beilein. Go Blue!

Louisville was still the better team that night. As much of a dirty slimeball as Rick Pitino is, his team didn’t win because he plugged them all full of PEDs the night before the game. They were just better that night. Not by much, but it was enough.
September 26th, 2017 at 11:11 PM ^
But the bogus foul called on Trey Burke didn't help.
September 27th, 2017 at 1:52 AM ^
officiated NCAA finals in recent memory. I recall several terrible calls and wasn't Hancock supposed to be out of the game with 5 fouls??
Love Coach Beilein and looking forward to seeing how the next couple classes turn out.
September 27th, 2017 at 9:34 AM ^
Definitely agree on that one. That was a clean block and had it not been called, we may have been able to tie the game up. Burke was in full-on heroball mode in the second half and was absolutely on fire.
But Louisville was still hitting any and every shot it wanted. Burke would've had to keep it going for the rest of the half after that for us to have had any shot.

Always been a fan, coach! Keep the subs coming and let's have a crazy year!
September 26th, 2017 at 8:08 PM ^
how good of a coach is he? If the playing field was level, would he be recruiting better? Would there be a few more Elite 8 and Final Four banners in Crisler? Would there be a national title banner or two?
It's hard to say, but this is all BS for one of the finest coaches and finest men in college basketball.
