MGoPoll: White or Maize pants on the road
...then I'd say no pants until we beat OSU.
I don't think Mad Hatter would have any problem with this.
Why did you reply to your own thread two minutes after posting it?
about really random stuff.
Where my "No Opionion"s at!? ROLL CALL!
dont like the white pants..BORING
No question, Jim.
Maize pants need to come back. White is too plain and boring.
White isn't one of our colors. We shouldn't use it any more than we have to.
Love the white on white. It's a really cool look that I hope they keep.
a white pant leg, a maize pant leg and blue bottom.
Maize
Harbaugh wants white - white it is.
I like the maize but don't mind if they keep the white.
My understanding is that the white pants were just a preference by Harbaugh from his first year in Ann Arbor: "Asked why he picked those particular uniforms, Harbaugh replied, "'I just liked them. There's really not that much to peel the onion back on with that, but I did like them.'"
More (link): "The Wolverines' 1974 season represents Harbaugh's earliest days in Ann Arbor. His father, Jack Harbaugh, joined the Michigan program in 1973 as a defensive backs coach. Jim Harbaugh was 10 at the time and lived in Ann Arbor until 1980 when Jack Harbaugh accepted a job at Stanford.Michigan posted a 10-1 record in 1974, coach Bo Schembechler's sixth season at U-M. The Wolverines' lone loss came at Ohio State."
Obviously I prefer the white pants. Like Harbaugh, my first memory of watching Michigan Football the away uniform included white pants. They wore them for two or three years in the early 70's. I think that it highlights the helmets. GO Blue.
It's worth pointing out that they didn't just arbitrarily choose white pants--it's an entire throwback uniform from the mid-70s, which happened to coincide with Jim's childhood. Who wouldn't get nostalgic and go for the uniform they loved as a kid if they had a chance to impact design decisions? It's awesome that he even has an opinion on this, and that it turns into "I want it to look exactly like that," with that being a picture of Rick Leach or Denny Franklin Harbaugh probably had ready to go.
AFAIC, the entire package looks great, far better than if they'd just gone with white pants and whatever bullshit modern white jersey Nike would have come up with. It was maize pants for long enough that this is a nice variation from the norm, and doesn't have connotations with some forgettable chapter in Michigan Football. Let it ride for a minute.

Tie Breaker: Coach Harbaugh = White
I went with white, because I remember Harbaugh wanting to bring those back prior to his first game, against Utah. Give Harbaugh whatever he wants.
Here's a practice video from Rome with what the maize pants would look like since we switched to Jumpman if anyone is wondering (last time we had maize pants, the jerseys had maize piping around the numbers and the pants were highlighter). Starts around 1:30 mark.
I'm going with Maize. Although, I'd like the white more if they got rid of the stripes down the leg and sleeve. All white unis, blue numbers and names, with the only maize being the winged helmet would look great IMO.
With special allowance for white now and then. I want zero commonality with PSU.
White. Why the debate?
Tradition
Mr. Heater and Mr. Shuttlecock would like a word with you.
Those are maize. Washed out with the black-and-white, but those are maize pants.
And it's Shuttlesworth...
Doh. Must have had badminton on my mind. My only choice is to counter with Dennis Franklin.
Exactly what I was going to say. Old school but I like the maize better anyways. Always like the tradition. Always liked penn states and alabama's but some of the new stuff is cool also. The matte helmets I like a lot for some clubs. As long as we never change the helmet Michigan is always the coolest and can live with white as long as we play on grass and dirty them up a bit. Our home uniforms are the best by far.
