Reports: Dan Quinn to be hired as Commanders HC

Doesn't play Ravens Style D. He's toast.
February 1st, 2024 at 12:37 PM ^
Didnt he fail at Falcons already? Why recycle? Hire C stalions, he is dedicated.
February 1st, 2024 at 12:41 PM ^
The Lions might have collapsed in the second half, but they didn't give up a 25 point lead in 17 minutes.
February 1st, 2024 at 12:51 PM ^
No, the 17 point comeback only took 8 minutes. To be fair, there were 27 unanswered points in 23 minutes.
February 1st, 2024 at 1:41 PM ^
Having watched both defenses in both collapses, Dallas' defense was unsound and undisciplined. Detroit just seemed to be Detroit for a hot minute, which was expected for anyone who has watched for the last 40 years.

BB "failed" at Cleveland. Your advice would not have served New England well. Outside of COVID year his worst year was 7-9 and he had 2 double digit win years in 16 game seasons. He is not 68 or something. Has a decent floor it seems.

some owners and upper management are better at helping coaches 'fail' than others.
February 1st, 2024 at 1:01 PM ^
Coaching is an odd profession where failure is not final. Many coaches failed their first go around and then became much better down the road.
Poor ownership / GM and lack of cap space of draft capital all play roles and sometimes guys step into shitty situations.
February 1st, 2024 at 1:43 PM ^
That's not odd for a profession at all. Generally, you learn much more from your failures than your successes.

Wash, rinse, repeat.

Digression.... but just had a thought maybe Jay is gonna be the OC here. he hasn't jumped to chargers yet, and he might be the most qualified for it, even over Hart.
February 1st, 2024 at 12:46 PM ^
That's where I'm a bit perplexed as well. If he was going to leave, I wonder why he hasn't already done it. Seems like he would've taken the leap once Minter was announced as well.
I wonder if he's listening to Brian's advice. If you really want your chance to step out of your dad's and uncle's shadows and not have people wonder if you've gotten to where you are because of nepotism, staying at Michigan is a great opportunity to go and do that.
February 1st, 2024 at 1:12 PM ^
Just a reminder, no one other than Harbaugh has actually been announced. Minter and Herbert’s departures have come from sourced reporting.
Doesn’t really change the question though, why has there not been similar reporting about Jay? Seems he must not have told the players he’s gone yet.

So this should settle AG back to Detroit where all his haters reside. Hopefully Brad gets him some more talent so we can discern if he is the right guy long term.
February 1st, 2024 at 1:32 PM ^
AG gets way too much hate. The defense made a giant leap this year without the infusion of talent they tried to buy (CJDJ and Mosely barely played).
2024 is the year to judge AG. Assuming we talent at CB and along the defensive line, he'll have the tools to the job.
To this point, he's been working with a roster that I'd put in the bottom ten of defensive talent across the league, maybe the bottom five.

Who had neither Vrabel or Belichick landing a HC job a month ago on their bingo card!
Actually a bit more surprised by Vrabel due to his age and BB's want of most of the power in any organization he would want to go to.
February 1st, 2024 at 12:52 PM ^
Never really came close, but man I thought after the Cowboys flamed out it was going to be Belichick in Dallas. It made a lot of sense: team is good enough to win the games Belichick needs to break the record while Jones is unlikely to let him construct the team. Was probably Dallas' best bet at a Super Bowl.
February 1st, 2024 at 1:14 PM ^
Belichick has not really acquitted himself well to the post-Brady era and reportedly has a very high asking price, both in $$ and control. Not surprising he didn't get a job
February 1st, 2024 at 1:24 PM ^
I bet Vrabel will take OSU job next year if OSU doesn't win it all.
February 1st, 2024 at 12:53 PM ^
I think we can all agree that Eric Bieniemy has got to be the single worst job interviewer on the planet. Guy leaves KC so he can get an opportunity to show he's not just a figurehead under Andy Reid and still cant the HC job when it opens up.
Interesting that they didnt let EB go right away and said that'll be Quinn's decision to make. Due to this being such a late hire in the cycle he might just get boxed out for the 2024 season.

Michigan needs an OC...
February 1st, 2024 at 1:11 PM ^
His offense was not good. Likely bottom third in NFL. I am confident that Andy Reid is the mastermind, not Eric.
February 1st, 2024 at 1:13 PM ^
My guess is Kansas City's success has most to do with those fellows named Mahomes and Kelce.
February 1st, 2024 at 1:19 PM ^
I'm not so confident in that given that
Mahomes >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Howell
Pacheco >>>Robinson
Kelce>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>anything on Washington's roster
Gotta have eggs to make an omelet.
February 1st, 2024 at 1:07 PM ^
Yeah, I am willing to believe two things at once:
1.) There are organizations that are still reluctant to hire a black coach;
2.) Bieniemy is not good during the hiring process.
February 1st, 2024 at 1:22 PM ^
SOMETHING going on there....he seems to have been the "hot name" multiple years and never gets the job.
February 1st, 2024 at 1:30 PM ^
After this many years, how bad could someone be in an interview?
I know he had to get out from under Andy Reid's shadow to prove that he could lead the offense but didn't exactly blow things out of the water in Washington. Why he would've picked Washington in the first place is another question of his decision making being they had a coach on the hot seat and a dearth of QBs on the roster
February 1st, 2024 at 3:08 PM ^
Plus most players don't like him.
February 1st, 2024 at 12:57 PM ^
commandos gonna commando.
when dan the eskimo gets here those pigeons will run to him
February 1st, 2024 at 1:59 PM ^
Here’s your trivia fact of the day: The last Washington coach to have a winning record in his first season was a Michigan grad.
George Allen in 1971. There you go.
February 1st, 2024 at 3:06 PM ^
As a Washington fan this is a very meh hire. They missed on their top 4 choices
February 1st, 2024 at 11:28 PM ^
You'd think the new ownership group would want to make a splashy hire. This definitely isn't it.
