Probably the best use of this line that I've seen on MGoBlog.
January 24th, 2024 at 9:47 PM ^
Well said infractions happened under head coach Jim Harbaugh… he just got out of Dodge so if the NCAA wants to pursue him so be it … Moore has absolutely nothing to worry about !!
January 24th, 2024 at 9:49 PM ^
If it's Moore, he was here during the violations, so maybe even murkier.
January 24th, 2024 at 9:51 PM ^
Unless he was personally responsible which he wasn’t it is the head coach that is liable under the new NCAA rules!!
January 24th, 2024 at 9:52 PM ^
The HC at the time, the HC now, or both?
January 24th, 2024 at 10:06 PM ^
you know, champ, maybe there's nothing wrong with remaining a lurker after all
January 24th, 2024 at 9:58 PM ^
I'm not so sure. Remember Coach Moore was also suspended for the first game of the season.
That being said, I highly doubt they suspend him again. I think we can sleep soundly knowing Coach Moore will be on the sidelines for every game of the 2024 season.
January 24th, 2024 at 10:13 PM ^
Didn’t the assholes at the ncaa accept that as punishment?
January 25th, 2024 at 8:30 AM ^
Nope. Both cases (burger and signs) are still open and ongoing. Hope is that the NCAA does accept both self imposed punishments but there’s no guarantee.
January 24th, 2024 at 10:27 PM ^
More likely a post-season ban. This would satisfy the NCAA mandate to convey the message that this is super serious while also ensuring that it only impacts those with no culpability. I can't find it but that second part is definitely in the bylaws.
January 25th, 2024 at 10:37 AM ^
I think you got it backwards. The mandate is that it DOES NOT impact those with no culpability. This was best displayed in the NCAA's "punishment" of Tennessee, where per the letter of the NCAA punishment guidelines the committee that hands our punishment was required to have much harsher penalties but didn't, citing the desire not to punish the current players and staff for sins of the previous regime.
January 24th, 2024 at 10:42 PM ^
I think that’s because he was on one of the zoom calls. Only Harbaugh got a level one for being not forthcoming.
January 24th, 2024 at 10:07 PM ^
They can sanction Michigan but will likely go easier since Harbaugh left.
January 24th, 2024 at 10:29 PM ^
Good thinking. Now is the time to fire him for cause.
January 25th, 2024 at 2:45 PM ^
I believe their intention is to vacate all Chargers wins next season.
January 24th, 2024 at 9:49 PM ^
If Ron English is named head coach, Jim Stapleton will provide unlimited Get Out of Jail Free cards.
January 24th, 2024 at 9:53 PM ^
Stapleton should never be welcome within the halls of UofM.
January 25th, 2024 at 6:25 AM ^
If half of what’s being said then I agree. If Wardes relationship caused this he needs to clean out his office today. While I think JH was leaving anyway, I gotta believe he felt like he was being sabotaged from within and made his decision easier.
January 24th, 2024 at 9:50 PM ^
Well it IS stupid, but it's the NCAA we're talking about, here.
January 24th, 2024 at 9:53 PM ^
They can punish the program. They can't punish someone who wasn't here.
January 24th, 2024 at 10:08 PM ^
Under the new rules, maybe they can. If the HC is the program, it doesn't matter if he knew about a violation, so why would it matter if he wasn't here? Some idiot in the NCAA could think that way. The B1G suspended JH 3 games with similar thinking. I am at the point that I always expect the dumbest thing possible from the NCAA, and the B1G, too. They still hate Michigan, even though JH is gone.
January 24th, 2024 at 9:55 PM ^
Welcome to the ncaa, where everything is made up and the rules don't matter!
January 24th, 2024 at 9:56 PM ^
Considering the NCAA awarded Michigan the title saying it was "earned" and their thorn for revenue sharing and general defiance is gone, they will back off most likely, especially since they came out against FSU and others for recruiting violations. NCAA got the best end of the deal: a big brand blue blood winning the title and in the news year round, their annoyance gone and allowing them to continue status quo.
January 25th, 2024 at 8:38 AM ^
this doesn't have anything to do with what they think of '21 and '22. They aren't going to stop
January 24th, 2024 at 10:00 PM ^
Not sure but knowing The NCAA they'll think of something. I'm convinced that any chance of Jim's return after a season like this was killed by the NCAA bullshit. They were coming to go in dry on him over hamburgers and a couple zoom calls. No way he was going to stay and deal with that BS if he got any NFL offer.
Michigan will have to deal with something coming from that stuff. But sure what or how though.
January 24th, 2024 at 10:00 PM ^
OSU is going to get into trouble for Catapult and other things. Book it. That program is dirty and have made enemies of Michigan and Alabama boosters.
As one green monster once said “This isn’t over. It will never be over.”
Also NCAA will cease to exist within two years.
January 24th, 2024 at 10:01 PM ^
They’re going to hit Jim with a meaningless five year show cause and congratulate themselves on how tough they are. Then, in two years, they won’t even be a thing anymore.
January 24th, 2024 at 10:06 PM ^
My guess would be that. Something small for UM and a show cause for Jim.
January 24th, 2024 at 10:04 PM ^
The NCAA will check with Ryan Day and get back to you
January 24th, 2024 at 10:06 PM ^
Harbaugh fell on the sword already for the team's sake last year.
Love Jim and everything he did, but the NCAA was never going to let him be, specifically after challenging the status quo on rev share, TV contracts and structure around player compensation. Guy is a ball coach, culture builder, not a fund raiser or politician.
The NFL is the right place for Jim and we should be thankful for the near decade he gave us and returning UM to elite status the past 3 years, shitting on football factory OSU, and delivering the National Title - allowing an alumnus like myself and many lifelong fans to die happy and with a dream season in our memories.
The challenge for UM will not be some bs "hammer" sanctions - a fever fanfic dream for the OSU and MSU dolts - but the ability to adapt to the new realities in CFB, as this was the final year where the sport was feigning amateur athletics. UM was slow to adapt to the BCS and CFB playoff eras - watching OSU, the SEC and other soulless football factories pass them by until these last few years.
Frankly, this National Championship was the ultimate, along with the past 3 years of ruining OSU, as the sport is now going full on NFL minor leagues, but we ended it on a high note. I'll always root for UM and support the team, but don't think my passion will ever reach what it has been the past couple decades, and not sure my joy of the past 3 years - no matter the future wins - can ever be replicated.
January 24th, 2024 at 10:21 PM ^
The NCAA feels like the Politboro circa 1991 when the Soviet people were finally ready to throw off the yoke of communism but didn't yet have control of the military. JH left in time for his freedom and I'm both sad but happy for him.
January 24th, 2024 at 10:12 PM ^
Good grief....don't give them any ideas.
January 24th, 2024 at 10:17 PM ^
Incredibly, highly doubtful that the NCAA can nor would issue any suspensions for non HCs. Under what legal argument - NONE!!!!!
I fully expect JH leaving means Charlie Baker and NCAA and Little Tony P drop any remaining charges and UM is fully functional in 2024.
January 25th, 2024 at 12:26 PM ^
I don't have any expectations of the NCAA or the conference. I just can't stand this conference anymore. Winning made it feel less bad, but it didn't make anything right. I'm sending Tony P a bag of dicks next time he comes up in my space. Even if it's an old press release.
January 24th, 2024 at 10:18 PM ^
Only if it was Michigan.
January 24th, 2024 at 10:23 PM ^
If you think about it, Michigan suspended Harbaugh for 3 games on their own. We really should have three in the can and should go out and do some sort of violation. Maybe buy some subs?
January 24th, 2024 at 10:31 PM ^
🤣 🤣 🤣 is all I can think to type
January 24th, 2024 at 10:38 PM ^
The rule about the head coach being responsible for any misdeeds committed by staffers pretty clearly refers to the head coach at the time. So, no, it doesn't appear the NCAA can directly discipline his successor (though it could conceivable punish the program with probation, scholarship reductions or whatever).
January 24th, 2024 at 11:04 PM ^
No they can't.
January 24th, 2024 at 11:08 PM ^
The NCAA has a bug up their ass about Harbaugh, not so much Michigan.
I suspect with Harbaugh gone, they will be bored with just plain old Michigan and move on to other things more interesting to them.
God forbid, they may actually take a look at what is being done with NIL that was never the intent.
January 25th, 2024 at 10:36 AM ^
Him leaving should also resolve the cheeseburger NCAA issue as the only outstanding issue was whether Harbaugh lied to investigators or not and what his punishment should be. With him gone there's not really anything more to do on that front.
January 25th, 2024 at 12:21 AM ^
More likely a show cause if we ever rehire him in future and non suspension sanctions (schollies, etc.).
January 25th, 2024 at 7:59 AM ^
They can try. Warde needs to bring the heat right back to them anytime they do.
January 25th, 2024 at 8:29 AM ^
Fuck the NCAA
January 25th, 2024 at 9:04 AM ^
My uneducated guess is if Moore is hired, the only way he gets suspended is if he is tied to the signgate situation. If memory serves correctly wasn't he suspended the first game of this last season for recruiting violations Jim was suspended for the first 3? If so I don't think he gets any more for that or at worst it would be a game.
If a coach untied to the current regime is hired then they would not serve any suspension for past infractions.
January 25th, 2024 at 9:12 AM ^
The NCAA may not be able to suspend him, but the B1G sure thinks it can. Remember, they didn't suspend Harbaugh, they suspended the Michigan head coach.
