Harbaugh to Chargers confirmed :(
January 24th, 2024 at 6:47 PM ^
Have fun with the Spanos.
January 24th, 2024 at 6:52 PM ^
Man I hope he wins. He’s got Herbert, some good weapons, good picks… thanks Jim, go get a mf super bowl
January 24th, 2024 at 6:55 PM ^
He won't. The Chargers' roster is a mess, and it's going to be a mess for a while.
January 24th, 2024 at 6:56 PM ^
Hes more likely to be fired than win a Super Bowl with that team and roster.
January 24th, 2024 at 7:21 PM ^
Yeah I don't know why people we're talking about this being a golden opportunity, this is not like the roster he had going into San Francisco. Having Herbert is nice, but good quarterbacks have been unable to will an organization to the summit (see: my avatar).
But, good luck Jim. Will root for you when your team plays in a prime time slot and it doesn't go against my interests.
January 24th, 2024 at 6:58 PM ^
Good luck Jim. Now lets quickly get Moore as the HC and keep as much of the staff intact as we can
January 24th, 2024 at 6:47 PM ^
Adam Schefter just announced it on Sportscenter too
January 24th, 2024 at 6:47 PM ^
Fire Warde!
January 24th, 2024 at 6:48 PM ^
Would be a nice consolation prize.
January 24th, 2024 at 6:56 PM ^
Took a job with HOF caliber coaches in his 2 biggest sports and now he has none. Hopefully Moore is a HOF coach
January 24th, 2024 at 6:57 PM ^
Was it a coincidence that information on a new contract offer along with the immunity was leaked today? The day of his hiring at Chargers. Someone's doing some ass covering.
Thanks Coach for all you've done. Best of luck.
January 24th, 2024 at 7:14 PM ^
Funny, when I heard that the number for highest paid coach was leaked. My first thought was he's gone. Thats the department claiming they did everything they could
January 24th, 2024 at 7:04 PM ^
His priority is to hire Sherrone and retain as many coaches as possible.
January 24th, 2024 at 7:30 PM ^
This isn't Warde's fault since Jim has been trying to get back to the NFL for years. However, I still think Warde should be fired for other reasons (See: Howard, Juwan)
January 24th, 2024 at 6:47 PM ^
Thanks, coach. You came home. You did everything we wanted. You proved most everyone, including me, wrong. You left the program in a better place.
Michigan man.
Go Blue. Good luck. Thanks for the memories.
January 24th, 2024 at 6:47 PM ^
😮
Thanks Coach for restoring us to greatness! Leaving on top is something you earned. Best wishes and go blue!
January 24th, 2024 at 6:47 PM ^
Sucks but we can finally move on....please don't take Ben Herbert.
January 24th, 2024 at 6:54 PM ^
Could be setting myself up for an Old Takes Exposed scene here, but from what I know NFL and college S&C programs are like night and day different.
from what I’ve gathered I don’t know if Herbert’s style would work as well and don’t think his preference would be NFL. It’s not as linear a promotion as other more coaching oriented jobs
January 24th, 2024 at 7:12 PM ^
Someone said pros like to have personal trainers etc etc, so there's that.
January 24th, 2024 at 7:24 PM ^
I don't know if football is the same as baseball but MLB players mostly do their own thing with their own guys, with the team's plan in mind. Minor league players utilize the team's guys more.
January 24th, 2024 at 7:06 PM ^
I believe Herbert just signed a 5 yr contract with Michigan. I think NFL player have their own conditioning coaches
January 24th, 2024 at 6:47 PM ^
yep. schefter tweeted.
thanks for the title run Jim the NCAA will never take these memories away
January 24th, 2024 at 6:47 PM ^
Good. Let’s pick up the pieces
January 24th, 2024 at 6:47 PM ^
Yup - just saw it a bunch of outlets on Instagram.
Thanks for turning the program around and winning the championship as everyone hoped.
That said, outside of money, this is likely a terrible career move.
- The team is in cap hell
- The Chargers don't have a lot of great young pieces outside of Herbert.
- Derwin James & Bosa are elite but oft-injured
- Kahlil Mack is elite but getting pretty old
- Ekeler is right at the age where RBs start to fall of a cliff
- Keenan Allen is getting old and is typically banged up
- Mike Williams is likely gone this off-season
- Quentin Johnson has potential but did not look great as a roomie WR
- The ownership is one of the worst outside of Carolina
Its pretty much win or bust for this team next year. Even then, they will have to probably release a lot of talent this offseason.
After next year, its a whole lot of question marks as they likely go into a full rebuild while being hamstrung by Herberts contract in the years ahead - which is a very hard formula for teams to navigate historically.
January 24th, 2024 at 6:57 PM ^
You have to think though this is the best win now NFL situation of all the available jobs this year (and probably the last couple? Though the Vikings would have been better maybe)
January 24th, 2024 at 7:46 PM ^
Chargers are nowhere near "win now". They're $27.5M over the cap, so they're going to have to release some of their best players (Bosa, Mack). Ekeler is a free agent and is gone. Mike Williams is likely gone after the '24 season.
They're a rebuild project.
January 24th, 2024 at 9:42 PM ^
Nope. Atlanta is the best win now situation with the addition of a QB. Get Fields down there and they can win that division as it sucks overall.
January 24th, 2024 at 9:40 PM ^
The guy doesn't fail at any coaching stop. Situations change as culture changes. Let's bookmark this post and see how he's doing in 2 to 3 years. Pretty sure he'll navigate the situation just fine.
January 24th, 2024 at 6:47 PM ^
Schefter tweeted it out, too. C'est la vie. Thanks for the greatest Michigan football season of my lifetime. Go win a Super Bowl.
January 24th, 2024 at 6:47 PM ^
Bizarre to link to this and not the Schefter tweet it's sourced from.
January 24th, 2024 at 6:47 PM ^
SHERRONE SHOW
January 24th, 2024 at 6:48 PM ^
Finally. We don't have to deal with this charade/shtick. Thanks for the Natty, but man this was fucking exhausting every off season. Onward!
January 24th, 2024 at 6:58 PM ^
True. He is the best Michigan coach of all time. Sadly, I don’t love the transition. He’ll likely gut the coaching staff, few transfer prospects during his job search, we’ll have departures and now have to rely on Sherrone. Hopefully this transition won’t cause a tail spin that led to the dark post Lloyd years.
January 24th, 2024 at 6:48 PM ^
So long and thanks for the ship
January 24th, 2024 at 6:48 PM ^
If this turns out to be true I'm happy for coach and glad we can move to the next phase for the program. I'm not blaming anyone, I think coach just had an NFL itch he had to scratch.
January 24th, 2024 at 6:55 PM ^
There is no IF about it.
January 24th, 2024 at 6:58 PM ^
I agree with you....I'm in loser denial.
January 24th, 2024 at 7:44 PM ^
la la la la la la la . . . damn
January 24th, 2024 at 6:48 PM ^
Now give Sherrone $20M/year, lifetime contract, and full immunity -- just to cap off this ball of confusion.
January 24th, 2024 at 6:58 PM ^
No thanks.
January 24th, 2024 at 7:06 PM ^
I’ll have what your smoking please!
January 24th, 2024 at 6:49 PM ^
Welcome Coach Moore. Go get a solid DC and a QB in the portal.
January 24th, 2024 at 6:50 PM ^
I'm ok with promoting a DC from within if one of the guys is ready. Will be really sad to lose Minter, but if Minter wants to go to the NFL now is the time. He was exceptional here.
I hope Moore is announced within the hour. Harbaugh has had him set up to be his replacement for over a year. Are there questions? Sure, but he has earned the right to answer them.
January 24th, 2024 at 6:54 PM ^
A black man is head coach of the defending national champions. That is worth broadcasting even if some don’t like mentioning race.
Support Moore with all you got, fans. I have expressed skepticism in the past, but now that it is here I am behind him 100%.
January 24th, 2024 at 6:56 PM ^
Lmfao
January 24th, 2024 at 6:58 PM ^
No clue if Moore is totally ready, but I’m behind him. Let’s see what he can do. He has earned the right.
January 24th, 2024 at 7:01 PM ^
Elston or Clink maybe?
January 24th, 2024 at 7:05 PM ^
Minters gotta be almost certain to be Jims DC in LA
