What spectacular UM plays would make a better logo than Jumpman?
The title says it all; which plays from UM greats would make a good logo? Desmond Howard's Heisman would definitely be great. Woodson's leaping interception would be phenomenal as well!
May I submit Roman Wilson's spectacular catch as a better-than-Jumpman logo?

If you're under the age of 30, probably yes. Best you've seen live.
If you're a bit older I'd suggest this one was better for a several reasons. It kept us in a game that was about to get away from us (when he made the pick the score was 7-0 WSU and was about to to 14-0) and it happened in the defacto national championship game.
Plus it was the only defensive Heisman trophy winner, the one and only Sir Charles Woodson, making the play.

Yes, I like this one a lot!

Everytime I see this I admire how high he can jump. Damn.

I was in that end zone. Game changer.
Woodson int vs MSU would be good.
Also Braylon or Maningham vs MSU
Money Moody’s stare.

I could definitely go for that one!

Is that JJ on the pass back s/
January 4th, 2024 at 10:32 AM ^
I came in to say Jourdan Lewis’ interception against Wisconsin (right up there with Woodson’s INT against MSU as one of the best I’ve ever seen), but man I’d be hard pressed to disagree with this answer.

I was there for that game. My wife was with me (doesn't watch football much but wanted to experience the atmosphere at Michigan Stadium) and she was flabbergasted. She couldn't believe the athleticism of football. She now has more respect for the game and my reasons for being a Michigan fan. That was a damn good day.
January 4th, 2024 at 10:35 AM ^
I'd argue that JJs one handed snag of Edwards lateral is more in the spirit of Jumpman while being football specific. The Roman catch is awesome, but the pose doesn't convey a sense of flying like Jumpman does. He just kinda looks like he's standing spread eagle.
I think if you are going to have a unique version of Jumpman that's for football, it should maintain the same spirit. If you want to go a totally different route that's fine too, but when you remove the other visual clues from Romans awesome catch it just kinda looks like a dude standing spread eagle.

Haskins hurdling Cam Brown in the '21 OSU game would be a good pick
January 4th, 2024 at 10:38 AM ^
Desmond's helloooo heisman pose or Charles' MSU INT.
January 4th, 2024 at 11:09 AM ^
Agree, the Desmond pose is iconic in all CFB and is opposite hand of the trophy - very Michigan centric. People emulate it all the time. It is like "The Michigan" in hockey at this point. You couldn't ask for a better brand.
Jumpman is a post NC NBA thing. But in context I associate it with North Carolina.
Buuuuuut... nothing beats the block M. Nobody (looking at Washington.) I will take that M over anything. The block M doesn't pay, however, and Jumpman is hyper-efficient in that space... so I'm good.

Michael Jordan's standing vertical is 36in, I am sure that Roman tops that.

Woodson in the Rose Bowl end zone.
January 4th, 2024 at 10:40 AM ^
i came here to say that desmond is the only answer, but i guess there are more iconic moments. the one that stands out most to me is haskins hurdling against osu on the final drive. it was such a pivotal point in Michigan lore. But nationally, its not really a think. Only really Howard's heisman pose goes national that I know of...
I think a Joe Moore award version with the 5 lineman would be pretty cool... though a different flavor to what you're describing

Perhaps Michigan can provide those folks in Portland with a "set" of specific Jumpman images.
The list others have provided is great - and, I agree with them all.
Desmond flashing the Heisman, Woodson in the Rose Bowl - or - Woodson's interception against MSU, Haskins in '21, JJ and Roman this past Monday, Sainristil against Stover - the list goes on.
Maybe there's something that can be done - who knows - player or unit specific.
Go Blue!
January 4th, 2024 at 10:47 AM ^
Just saw your post. We had the same three (Woodson MSU, Woodson WSU, Haskins OSU). Your others work, too. Great list.
January 4th, 2024 at 10:45 AM ^
It's not a play but neither is the original jumpman so IDC
January 4th, 2024 at 12:01 PM ^
Fun Fact: the Jumpman logo is actually a real play. It just didn't happen during an NBA game. Rather it is a silhouette of a dunk performed by Michael during a photo shoot in 1984 while he was wearing New Balance shoes, not Nike. Source
January 4th, 2024 at 12:15 PM ^
Oh, definitely a thing that happened, I just don't consider a staged photo to be a "play"
January 4th, 2024 at 10:46 AM ^
I love the Sainristil idea, but jumpman in my mind is a one-person silhouette.
#1a: Woodson's sky interception when MSU tried to throw it out of bounds
#1b: Woodson's interception against WSU in the Rose Bowl
#2: Haskins hurdling OSU (just erase the guy being hurdled)
January 4th, 2024 at 10:47 AM ^
Woodson’s interception against MSU, Desmond’s Heisman pose, Roman’s catch on the tipped pass Saturday, or Blake flashing the 6-5 after his touchdown against Ohio right after Zinter got hurt. These are in no particular order, I love them all.
January 4th, 2024 at 10:49 AM ^
My choice would be the Charles Woodson INT vs MSU, which has already been adapted to a T-Shirt:

Haskins' hurdle is also a good one, any pretty jumpman-esque.

This is the correct answer, imo. The Catch:

Last national championship - beat Washington State
Next national championship - beat Washington? Would love that symmetry.
January 4th, 2024 at 11:13 AM ^
To me, this is the spiritually correct answer. Michigan's brand is toughness, team, and defense. Woodson embodies those things, and that play was the most spectacular of that season (though not as impactful as the Rose Bowl INT).
And the Jumpman logo is more about a spectacular/iconic play than an impactful one.
