While It is tough to see Coach Herbert leave, I'm encouraged that this is an internal promotion and  that the hire happened quickly which tells me there was a plan in place.

The new team leaders,…

The new team leaders, whomever they are. I think a lot of us have enjoyed watching JJ, Blake, Zak, Mike Sainristil and Mike Barrett grow as leaders over their careers here. I’m not sure I can recall a recent team where the leadership group will change as completely as it will this offseason. There are several candidates returning to Team 145. What I am most excited to watch is who will stand up in words and deeds and say, “The path is before us, I know the way. Follow me.”

I agree that the Commanders…

I agree that the Commanders are the best job & it would put him close to his brother. Jim did what he promised. If this is what he wants, he's earned it. I'd love for Jim to stay, but if he leaves I have confidence in Coach Moore. The last time Harbaugh handed a college team to an assistant, things worked pretty well for about a decade.

Fuck yes.

Fuck yes.

Thank you for all of this. I may or may not be listening to Rilo Kiley and drinking bourbon. I am so happy for this team.

there are two different ways you might be paid to cut the trees down: someone wants the wood for furniture or someone wants a specimen tree to plant somewhere else. Definitely explore your options if you want to take those trees down [I live in California, so I probably don't have a contact for you]

Thank you Cade. Last year does not happen without you & neither does this year. I hope you throw all over every defense you face (unless it’s ours). Good luck & Go Blue!

Sherwin Williams will match colors using the Pantone matching system: https://www.sherwin-williams.com/architects-specifiers-designers/education/paint-and-color-technology/sw-art-pro-matchgame

The University's official Pantone colors can be found here: https://brand.umich.edu/design-resources/colors/

Print that page, have Sherwin Williams match the PMS color and you should be set. I'm not sure which other brands will match paint to Pantone colors. The Pantone system is used mostly for print and web. Good luck!

I was also in the student section for that play. i thought they were going to hand off if they snapped it. The thing I remember most was how quiet the stadium got while the ball was in the air [maybe that was just me] and the absolute pandemonium when they signaled touchdown [definitely not just me]. Thanks for the memories, Coach. rest in Peace.

In the Los Angeles area, you…

In the Los Angeles area, you can make a day out of the 'Bermuda Triangle' in Torrence. My favorites there:

Smog City: You'll see there Coffee Porter and season IPAs all over the area, at the tap room try whatever experimental beer sounds good to you [they almost always are], the Kumquat Saison is now distributed as a seasonal beer, you don't generally see their sours outside of the tap room.

Monkish: they've given into pressure and are making IPAs now, their Belgian styles are their best

Absolution: Great Taproom, great people

Strand: great, balanced IPAs (Atticus, Black Sand and White Sand are my favorites)and underrated stouts

Just north of LAX, you will find:
El Segundo Brewing: Seasonal single hop IPAs and year round IPAs. They release Old Jetty (barrel aged barley wine) and Standard Crude (barrel aged stout) for the holidays - if you see a bottle of either, grab it.

Three Weavers: a range of IPAs as well Sun Trap (a session sour) and tap room only one offs: Inglewood Fog is my current favorite. It's an Earl Grey Latte inspired amber, the exact opposite of a hop bomb IPA. Some Dark Hollow, a Jameson barrel aged Imperial Stout, is lovely but requires a nap after.

Firestone Walker has their test brewery in Venice. Their production beers are everywhere but the Venice tap room is an opportunity to drink something you've never heard of and may not see again. They have excellent sours that are not widely distributed. The Library Alehouse does not make their own beer, they do have the most taps near the beach and menu with enough on it that anyone in a group can find something.

MacLeod Ale in Van Nuys (in the Valley) focuses on British styles of beer. They usually have at least one IPA on tap but I really love them for their ESBs, milds and whatever barrel aged beer they have on tap. MacCleod only sells at their brewery, they also do wood fired pizza if you want to make an afternoon of it.

Ladyface Ale way out in Agoura Hills (damn near to all the way to Ventura County), just off the 101 is fantastic. Their beers rotate, they have a great patio and restaurant. It's a good spot to refuel if you've gone hiking on the coast.

Lastly, if you see a beer on tap from Noble Aleworks called Naughty Sauce, order it. It's a blond nitro stout. It's the color of a Budweiser and one of the roastiest, stoutiest and most delicious stouts I've ever had. Better yet, order it for an unsuspecting friend and watch them try to work out what they are drinking.

Happy Friday everybody!

The Tournament of Roses didn…

The Tournament of Roses didn't want parade participants raising or spending money for an event that they couldn't guarantee would happen. Flowers for the floats are typically ordered at the end of July and a lot of the bands need to raise money to make the trip.

Leaving this here because I can't start threads yet and this seems to be the most related thread. Anyone with enough points should feel free to make a thread

The 2021 Rose Parade is cancelled. There is no decision on the Rose Bowl game as of now. The Tournament of roses Association felt that  they needed to make the decision now before float builders, sponsors and bands started to spend money in preparation for the game. The flowers for the floats are typically ordered at the end of July.

I do want to see the season…

I do want to see the season preview for the current team. I think the 2020 season will be played in some form, most likely abbreviated and not this fall.

I've always been curious as to what this place would have looked like during the 1997 season. My own recollections of that season are a bit hazy, I was in the thesis year of a master of architecture program and not in Ann Arbor. I do seem to remember a lot in the national press about how elevating a long time assistant was a disaster & that Coach Carr should be gone after the year. My suggestion is a slight spin on mGrowOld's thought: write a roster preview on the 97 team as though that's the season that is about to happen. In the likely event that there is no football this fall, the blog could write almost all of the normal features as though the 1997 season were happening now. I think the Unverifed Voracities would be hilarious and it would be fun to see UFRs of those games [I think it was the Iowa game that was a full 60 minute pucker].

Given everything that's happened at Vox this week, guest writers are another thought. I don't know if there is a stretch goal that we could hit [either in the HTTV kickstarter or in the Charity Bowl if that happens] that would induce Holly Anderson to write a Charles Woodson hagiography.

Whatever HTTV ends up being, I will buy it. This place has been a great diversion for me over the years. I hope you and everyone around you are now and continue to be healthy.
