Hoops Snowflakes thread
How many times do we need to see this type of flailing by the basketball team at the end of games.
I watched this whole game, been watching since Campy Russell and CJ Cupek and I was screaming at the TV because of how they were coached and played from the end of the 1st OT till the end, truly pathetic.

I'll post a comment here if people want to neg me to hell.

Are you so mad you want to punch somebody?

Better chance Warde fires him or Juwan throws another punch?
December 19th, 2023 at 10:56 PM ^
Juwann is Warde’s guy. And nothing would make me happier than to see Juwann bring greatness.
But Warde has issues and I’m not sure he puts Michigan ahead of his own agenda.
December 20th, 2023 at 1:42 AM ^
I think you mean Juwan…
December 20th, 2023 at 10:00 AM ^
People are entitled to their opinion on whether Juwan or Warde can go, but I'm dying to know what factual info you have that Warde puts himself above Michigan athletics?
December 20th, 2023 at 10:54 AM ^
Discussions with people close to the program that I respect.
Warde has his favorites.
Ono is a blessing.
December 19th, 2023 at 11:45 PM ^
Warde is looking to give Juwan an 8 to 20 year extension you know it.
December 19th, 2023 at 11:59 PM ^
I'll go with equal odds because, unfortunately, I don't see Warde firing him unless he throws another punch
December 20th, 2023 at 2:12 PM ^
He should have been gone after the second one.
December 19th, 2023 at 9:57 PM ^
I do think there's a middle ground between permanent lifetime coach and burn it all down, but nobody who watched this basketball game could think that was a well-coached or organized team. I advocated for a big change in assistants last year. Could have made a difference now if we had someone in a Yaklich role.
December 20th, 2023 at 6:41 AM ^
I'd be open to anything at this point, but ...
Who goes, and why, exactly? To put it another way, who -- in context -- is a net positive and who's a net negative?

Brian Dutcher

Agreed: Yaklich.
December 20th, 2023 at 11:18 AM ^
Looking at Yaklich's record at UIC (no better than 8th in conf), he may be available next year if we made a good offer.

Give out your email address and exchange messages in a spirited debate over the propriety of Juwan Howard retaining his job.
December 19th, 2023 at 11:08 PM ^
Lol, sorry you had to deal with that BS, SQ.
I agree with most of your comments btw
December 19th, 2023 at 10:10 PM ^
Hell with these downvotes, I'm with SD Mick!
+1 for being a man and being 40!
December 19th, 2023 at 10:35 PM ^
Man, I just blew past "Campy Russell" which is a funny way of dating yourself. That's far back! Don't neg this man to hell!
December 19th, 2023 at 11:37 PM ^
Yeah, I saw Cazzie playing at Yost. Sorry, I need to nap now.
December 20th, 2023 at 12:33 AM ^
Six decades of Michigan basketball fandom... that's a lot of ups and downs. I salute you and OP, sirs.
December 20th, 2023 at 7:43 AM ^
You and me both!
December 20th, 2023 at 7:54 AM ^
I would’ve started my list with Rudy T so it looks like I’m younger than you but older than the OP.
Time for my oatmeal.
December 20th, 2023 at 8:03 AM ^
I go back to Phil Hubbard. Does that count with you old-timers?
December 20th, 2023 at 2:21 PM ^
I cut the bottom out of the peach basket.
December 20th, 2023 at 9:39 AM ^
When Cazzie was a freshman, so was I. If people think the Yost Hockey Arena is loud, they should have have been at Yost Fieldhouse when Russell and Buntin played there. I've never experienced anything like it since. The Big 10 was stacked and the BB was great.
December 22nd, 2023 at 4:35 PM ^
I was in High School in Ann Arbor when I saw Cazzie (& Buntin and Oliver Darden? play. And yes, it was VERY loud!
To give you an idea as to the play around the basket, it was known as "bloody nose lane".
December 20th, 2023 at 7:09 AM ^
Kupic.
Aside from that, agreed.
December 20th, 2023 at 7:12 AM ^
Kupec
December 20th, 2023 at 11:15 AM ^
Lol.
Agreed
December 19th, 2023 at 9:47 PM ^
He needs to go for many reasons.
Decision making all around is awful.
If his name was anything else he would not be the coach at Michigan.
December 19th, 2023 at 10:45 PM ^
How is the CFL treating you?
December 20th, 2023 at 10:07 AM ^
Yep, I don't even really know what the argument is for keeping him anymore. He can't build a roster, he can't win a close game (which isn't even hyperbole), the team culture is awful, and he has off the court issues. Like how does this get better?
December 19th, 2023 at 9:48 PM ^
As soon as Florida hit 100 points I turned on Whose Line Is It Anyway
December 19th, 2023 at 10:14 PM ^
Was it the one where Wayne Brady’s all around talent and quick thinking wit left you solidly impressed?
December 20th, 2023 at 11:20 AM ^
lol, I did the exact same thing. Kinda nice to find something to laugh at.
December 20th, 2023 at 12:05 PM ^
At least we're supposed to laugh at that.....
I'm with MK....Juwan is trading on his name at this point, that's it.
December 19th, 2023 at 9:50 PM ^
you suck.
December 19th, 2023 at 9:52 PM ^
What did he say that wasn’t true?
December 19th, 2023 at 9:59 PM ^
Sometimes the truth hurts…
December 20th, 2023 at 8:07 AM ^
what did he say that was true? i mean, i guess he could have watched campy and cupek play, but we have no way of knowing. i'm sure he did spend a couple hours screaming at the tv, though, so there's that.
December 19th, 2023 at 10:11 PM ^
Why is the postgame story not on the front page????

What drove me crazy was Michigan actually closed out the end of the game really well - they were down 4 with under a minute and got turnovers and scored 2nd-chance points. That's really impressive, especially for a team that typically doesn't keep the plot to end close games. Then they get to OT, again do well defensively and make some plays, get up 3 and then fall apart not defending that last 3 attempt before whatever Burnett ran to end the period. By the 2nd OT they were clearly gassed and Florida got some good shots and hit them and it was over. But had they got one more break, one more bucket or stop in regulation or the first OT then we're talking about how this team is figuring out close games and making big strides. It's a totally different narrative on basically 2 possessions, and it's not like Florida was doing anything all that great either.
Just fucking infuriating to watch. I'm fine if both sides part ways after this year; there's just this weird stink/juju right now around basketball that probably isn't probably going to be something you can play your way out of.
December 19th, 2023 at 9:56 PM ^
Florida sucks, which makes this game more painful. I know they’re 8-3 now, but they can’t shoot. I assume they have been beating up lesser teams with their size and athleticism. But they’re just 5 chuckers who attack the glass. Izzo has made a career crafting those types of teams. That doesn’t mean I have to like it.
December 19th, 2023 at 10:07 PM ^
They aren't elite but Florida is, yeah, like a lot of those middling NCAA teams that Izzo and guys like him get to the 9 seed in the tourney and more often than not don't make it out of the first weekend. What's interesting to me is they also suck defensively, which you usually assume these teams can at least do.
December 19th, 2023 at 9:59 PM ^
The defense is what is so disappointing to me. Even excellent players like Nkamhoua get this space-cadet syndrome where they make these completely inexplicable (or inexplicably slow) rotations. The gulf between the physical capabilities of the players on the floor and the defensive performance points directly to coaching. Major improvements needed.
December 19th, 2023 at 10:11 PM ^
Yeah. Good defenses really function like they're not even thinking; it's just instinctive moving to spots and defending guys. Michigan displays that in spurts but then you have moments where guys just slow down and start thinking and not reacting and that's what bad things happen.
My very slight hope is that last year we saw them absolutely lost defensively early on and they got a bit better as the year progressed to the point where they were basically even offensively and defensively to sites like KenPom and Torvik. Michigan's offense right now is top-25 and their defense is around 100th, so if you see some familiarity and slight improvement from that happen then they have a good chance of getting better but it might not be enough because this league is pretty shitty and they aren't likely to go 13-7 or whatever they'd need to make up for an underwhelming OOC schedule.
