Rumors surrounding Juwan's future as MBB head coach

Submitted by RobGoBlue on December 10th, 2023 at 9:25 PM

First time creating a forum topic... don't have any links, just too much talk on Twitter right now for it to be nothing.

Anyone?

The rumor on the ON3 message board is that it was between Sanderson and Juwann and that it got started with Sanderson calling out Jace over missed rehab workouts.

This was from a poster who seemed to have some connection to the program.

He did not indicate there were punches thrown, but did refer to it as 'physical', which could mean a lot of things.

It’s unlikely that Juwan punched a staff member and then coached a game today. People who say “but Warde” are allowing a cartoonish dislike of Warde to interfere with their judgment. Warde has been passive at times, but not to that level, and notably not recently.

So to the question about what about Juwan, well, we need to apply the lessons of Beilein and Harbaugh, for whom retention and support in the face of message-board firing demands (I was opposed to the former and a loud pro-fire voice in the latter category) paid off handsomely.

If there’s no punch here, rumors like this are actively damaging to the program and should be regarded in a similar way to excessive rumors about the sign thing.

Yeah, I'm interested to find out what's happening but a lot of the messaging I've seen are just people restating the same rumors.  If true obviously a fireable offense but this place just assuming Warde would let this happen without stepping in seems like wishcasting barring some additional info.

If nothing comes of this I would hope these sources would be treated with skepticism in the future but considering these are the same ones that spun a million false sign gate stories I'm not holding my breath.

I posted something further up the thread. We should be careful with rumor trains like this. The smoke could easily be the result of an incident that isn’t great but isn’t Juwan cold-cocking someone either.

Edit: FWIW, I’m generally in favor of patience for on-floor stuff, and if this is not a firing event patience is needed. But I do want to say, in keeping with my response up-thread, that there are certain kinds of incidents that could be prompting the talk today that might not be fireable but also might not speak well of Juwan’s long-term ability to lead the program. But we’re looking at rumors here so I can draw no conclusions.

Can appreciate his contribution as a player and coach (the Big Ten title and near final four was fun) but it hasnt felt like anything has been building since. Think it would be best to move on at the end of the season regardless if this ends up true.

Yeah, I don't hold MGoBlog's opinionated denizens in high regard.

I remember the "Fire Beilein" thread in 2017 (where posters were advocating for Dayton's Archie Miller). LOL!

I remember the "Fire Bakich" thread.

And I remember the MANY "Fire Harbaugh" threads here in 2020. (If I could bump threads, I would.)

There are a lot of confident idiots here. And some don't seem to ever learn and then level up.

If Juwan did something as the aggressor, then he'll be terminated. But if this rumor was overblown, then a bunch of haters look like clowns.

I'll take a wait-and-see approach on how events transpire.

Seconded. The “fire Warde” brigade is especially lazy and tedious, especially since nobody ever produxes much actual evidence that Warde is bad at his job. M sports are in great shape for the most part. But since he isn’t a very public-facing guy, isn’t a publicity hound, they all assume he’s a moron. I wonder why.

I am bummed that Juwan didn’t work out but you just can’t have violence as a feature of your personality and keep a job. In any profession really, you can’t be in leadership and punch competitors/colleagues in the face.

Another coaching search incoming.. joy

Ok lets say the altercation with Juwan and Sanderson are true and it happened on Friday. And let's say that its because Jace missed a session with Sanderson. Something tells me Sanderson had to do something to Jace if he wasn't with the team and Juwan was allowed to travel and still coach. It would have been real easy for the team to not let Juwan travel and attribute it to his health.

If this is false maybe it's time to let go...of our "insiders".  If true...we'll they're still on probation but it's getting late, late, for Howard and this isn't OK.  Honestly, the Wisconsin staff is pure shit so fuck those guys. Today apparently was a nice road win but we all know this team isn't tournament-worthy and that isn't acceptable (2 years in a row).

FWIW...

Looks like there will be some down playing of the situation and we may never get 100 percent word from Michigan. But from everything I have been told. Jace Howard wasn't taking treatment seriously, someone got onto him, Sanderson chimed in, and Juwan confronted him and…

Jalen Rose tweeted about a minute ago that Juwan did not and will not step down. Said Juwan is looking forward to returning to his position Dec. 16.

Petitti will probably suspend Harbaugh for the semifinal because of this. But not until the team plane leaves for LA.

At any rate, it can't be as simple as the rumors out there. Howard would gone then. I just don't think he could punch an assistant and that would be OK. Even with Warde.
