CBS Sports- Michigan vs Texas, Washington vs FSU
247Sports has Michigan vs FSU, Washington vs Texss
Obviously, I understand why some don't trust the committee but the SEC is out.

Texas*
December 3rd, 2023 at 1:47 AM ^
There was this guy from Texas… They asked him what the biggest state was… He said Texas… He was told it was actually: Alaska. He said, wait ‘till it melts…
December 3rd, 2023 at 2:16 AM ^
That would be great but if Alabama gets there is another way we wouldn't geta match up with Alabama in the 1st game: If FSU is out because of their problem with key player availability (QB) then Michigan slides down to 2 because of key player availability (Zak) and apparent line problems that might have resulted. Alabama is in for beating Georgia (the top rated team and 3 time defending champion) (the most recent event) and jumps to 1. Texas has to be in because they beat Alabama but it was not recent (1st game of the season) so they are #4. That lets them decide who is better now on the playing field.
Voila! Matches are:
Alabama v Texas
Michigan v Washington
December 3rd, 2023 at 7:17 AM ^
alabama is not going to go from #8 to #1, leaping over a slew of teams who are undefeated, also won, and beat good teams on the same deay.
December 3rd, 2023 at 12:26 PM ^
I didn't say it was probable or even remotely possible. Just saying that if you place so much value on FSU's personnel loss you could make the argument for it.
December 3rd, 2023 at 12:37 AM ^
We'll see.
But it should be.
December 3rd, 2023 at 12:51 AM ^
BtW 2 reasons for us to choose the Rose Bowl in that scenario:
1. Sugar Bowl would almost cede home field advantage to Texas.
2. Letting Washington have FSU in the Rose Bowl is a big advantage for Washington, but we'd prefer FSU in the final.
December 3rd, 2023 at 1:30 AM ^
I loathe the rose bowl (sorry I've never had any loyalty to that BS tradition wherein we vied for the chance to go play a team from the west coast on the west coast) BUT I am so over playing southern (Texas on east) teams in the south. It's BS. And Washington is at least a pretty hefty drive. So I am hoping for the rose bowl also. Does the #1 team choose?
I wanna see the playoffs in some of the domes up north for once.
December 3rd, 2023 at 2:01 AM ^
#1 team chooses
December 3rd, 2023 at 9:32 AM ^
Who “loathes the Rose Bowl”?
December 3rd, 2023 at 10:14 AM ^
In domes? You want to cede a hard-earned homefield advantage for a road game? WTF? Instead of playing Alabama at Michigan Stadium in December, you'd rather play them at Ford Field?
You just lost all credibility as a college football fan. WTF, man?
December 3rd, 2023 at 1:36 AM ^
The BCS/CFP Era has existed since 1998. So, 25 seasons prior to this one.
And a 1-loss team has never made it, under either format, at the expense of an undefeated P5 Champ.
December 3rd, 2023 at 12:37 AM ^
If only...
December 3rd, 2023 at 1:03 AM ^
I don't want Texas first round. Give me FSU. We're the one seed and we should get the weakest opponent and that's FSU.
December 3rd, 2023 at 12:39 AM ^
That's what it should be, but I'll be shocked if it is.
December 3rd, 2023 at 12:39 AM ^
Anyone get the idea that the committee is hopping FSU to the opposite of wherever we are? I see whats going on its obvious.
December 3rd, 2023 at 12:40 AM ^
Can't find a clip of it but FOX was predicting
1. Michigan
2. Washington
3. Texas
4. Alabama
with FSU out, after our game. We'll see
December 3rd, 2023 at 12:53 AM ^
Klatt said it at the end. He was annoying as hell today. He actually had UM, Washington and Bama firmly in with fourth spot up for debate. He was basically saying how can we leave out SEC champion.
This is why I don't get people who clamor over him here. The dude is going to tote party line. I am sure he will have his episode where he will spin it on why he is right and someone will post it here.
I am just disappointed that he didn't have anything good to say about going undefeated. FSU D played their asses off today. Hats off to them.
December 3rd, 2023 at 12:56 AM ^
Why is the SEC getting a bid the Fox Sports party line? They have a financial interest in the SEC being diminished, not built up.
Maybe some people, even ones with which we disagree, are just giving their honest opinions.
December 3rd, 2023 at 1:39 AM ^
Agree. As I recall it mostly came down to that philosophical question--most deserving team or best team. I think they all agreed FSU deserved it more but they wanted to see the best teams. I do think there is an argument to be made they we have all been brainwashed--partially by reality ($$$) unfortunately-that the dominant SEC teams really are that good, really are the best. But someone's gotta beat them to prove that wrong.
December 3rd, 2023 at 2:32 AM ^
Someone did beat them. Texas. Away, at Alabama. By 10. SEC had their chance.... see ya!!
December 3rd, 2023 at 1:24 AM ^
Klatt has consistently been the most pro-B1G commentator out there. Guys on SEC Network are crying for two SEC teams to get in even though Bama needed a miracle a week ago to beat Auburn. The Bama team that played last week would've lost to Texas by two scores again.
December 3rd, 2023 at 2:41 AM ^
I just hope that the committee watches this in-depth breakdown of Bama's season and the SEC in general.
December 3rd, 2023 at 1:28 AM ^
Klatt was calling the Michigan vs. Iowa game so how could he pay attention to the Louisville vs. FSU game at the same time?
December 3rd, 2023 at 1:38 AM ^
Not a chance undefeated FSU is out. But they are the weak link.
December 3rd, 2023 at 10:07 AM ^
And one I hope UM gets paired with for the semi final.
December 3rd, 2023 at 12:41 AM ^
This is the way
December 3rd, 2023 at 12:41 AM ^
Not happening
December 3rd, 2023 at 12:42 AM ^
People will underestimate FSU because of the QB situation but I will say this, if that ends being the matchup UM has got to raise both the offensive execution level and playcalling because that FSU defense is legit. Pass pro would be a concern against their front. Their defense is definitely playoff worthy, that is unquestionable.
December 3rd, 2023 at 12:49 AM ^
Yeah their defense is better than Iowa or OSU. It’ll be first to 17
December 3rd, 2023 at 1:32 AM ^
Iowa and OSU aren't giving up 29 pts and 457 yards to Boston College.
December 3rd, 2023 at 6:42 AM ^
I don't think any of the teams that may make the playoff have a stronger defense than Iowa, OSU, or PSU for that matter. The only exception would be Michigan.
December 3rd, 2023 at 12:42 AM ^
I can’t stand all the SEC slappies trying to force Alabama in at the expense of FSU. That’s just bs. They are a 13-0 ACC conference champion that beat LSU for good measure.
December 3rd, 2023 at 1:11 AM ^
Bamas second best win was LSU
FSUs second best win was LSU
BAMA lost by 2 scores at home
FSU is undefeated
The committee had FSU 4 spots ahead of Bama yesterday. What in the actual fuck could FSU have done while winning an ACC championship to go backwards in the ranking while also passing Georgia?
No the playoff committee made their bed last week making FSU 4 spots better than Bama. You pull them back in a win and jump bama 4 spots in one week? If you do that then you lied last week.
December 3rd, 2023 at 7:55 AM ^
FSUs second best win was LSU
Isn’t that FSU’s best win? LSU is ranked ahead of Louisville in the CFP.
December 3rd, 2023 at 11:13 AM ^
I personally think that OSU is better than Alabama. Definitely a better defense.
December 3rd, 2023 at 12:42 AM ^
Bama needed Texas to lose. That didn't happen. You can't leave out an undefeated power 5 conference champion
December 3rd, 2023 at 12:42 AM ^
"It is best," CFP executive director Bill Hancock said on Tuesday. "Most deserving is not anything in the committee's lexicon. They are to rank the best teams in order, and that's what they do. Just keep that word in mind, best teams."
Nobody on this blog thinks FSU is better than Bama. There is no way FSU gets in over Bama. And Bama doesn’t get in over Texas.
December 3rd, 2023 at 12:46 AM ^
Nobody on this blog thinks FSU is better than Bama.
I do. FSU would beat Alabama straight up.
December 3rd, 2023 at 1:22 AM ^
I do as well and id let records be the tie breaker between the 3 of us. Bama could lose 4 games and probably be better than all but 2-3 teams. Fuck em dont lose by 2 scores at home.
December 3rd, 2023 at 12:48 AM ^
Alabama was a miracle 4th and 31 conversion from being a two loss team. I wouldn’t be so sure to conclude that they’re better than FSU.
December 3rd, 2023 at 12:49 AM ^
Depends on which Bama, the one who needed an absolute miracle to beat Auburn last week or the one who squeeked by Arkansas? And that is the problem with using the subjective term of best when teams change week to week in college football. The black and white of winning all of your games has got to mean something.
December 3rd, 2023 at 12:54 AM ^
They are throwing that word best around in an attempt to argue for Bama. But I'm sorry, not one person outside of Ohio thought Cincinnati was one of the four best two years ago. They got in based on their record being deserving. Best is record which is evidence-based. The eye test is bullshit which leads people to predict Oregon stomping Washington on Friday for example.
One is based on evidence which leads to conclusions. The other is pure hypothetical and conjecture.
December 3rd, 2023 at 9:34 AM ^
They absolutely were the fourth best team in the country that season. What you wanted to send norte dame in over them??
December 3rd, 2023 at 12:59 AM ^
I think Bama is shit. They played horrible against Auburn. Auburn shit the bed. Can they beat UM? Sure. Anyone quality team can beat another quality team.
I say Georgia will beat Bama 4 out of 5 times if they are healthy. So why not put them in there over Bama.
FSU have some good wins. Bama has one great win and lost to another good team. FSU is undefeated. That should mean something.
December 3rd, 2023 at 1:06 AM ^
Yeah if we are throwing around subjectivity I personally believe that despite losing the game today Georgia is a better team than Alabama and would beat them more times than not in a five game scenero. But that shouldn't matter because they lost today, it's black and white. Same way that is black and white that FSU has a zero in the loss column.
December 3rd, 2023 at 9:37 AM ^
Sure but then we have three one loss teams for the fourth spot, and that has to be subjective.
December 3rd, 2023 at 9:45 AM ^
No because the head to head is black and white as well. Alabama beat Georgia and Texas beat Alabama. Once again also black and white. If the committee wants to make actual results on the field matter the 4 playoff teams are in fact black and white.
December 3rd, 2023 at 1:18 AM ^
Wait a second. Wait just one second. Is Alabama not better than FSU if they lose close to Georgia today? I mean if we know for sure Alabama is better that outcome doesnt matter right? Oh wins and losses matter? Like a loss at home by two scores that matter now? Or no? Oh rough games throughout your season determines who is good? Like rough wins over USF and Auburn? Come on we HAVE to stop carrying the SECs water for them. Bamas loss is worse than OSUs by a mile, should they be in?
